Abstract: an analysis was carried out of the change in the composition and structure of vegetation along an elevation gradient in zopilote canyon, located in the balsas river basin in guerrero. in an altitude range from 450 to 2,800 m, 28 sampling plots were established in five different vegetation types, defined by their physiognomy. within each vegetation type, six 1,000 m2 plots were selected for sampling tree species, and within these a 100 m2 subplot was established for shrubs and two 6 m2 subplots for herbaceous plants. the structural attribute estimated was the relative importance value of each species; cluster analysis was used for classifying vegetation types. in the elevation range studied, 314 species of vascular plants were identified (including four in the nom-059-ecol-2001), in 204 genera and 79 families. the most species-rich families were: asteraceae, fabaceae, burseracea, lamiacaea and euphorbiaceae. five vegetation types were identified: tropical deciduous forest, palm swamp, quercus forest, pinus forest and mountain cloud forest. the close proximity of these different vegetation types is most likely due to the abrupt changes in topographical and climatic conditions in zopilote canyon.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to determine the population structure of pachycereus weberi in ca?ada del zopilote (buzzard canyon), guerrero, mexico. an observation plot of 50 x 50 m (2,500 rrp) was established and divided into quadrats of 10 x 10 m to facilitate the field survey. all p. weberi individuals with height ≥ 0.10 m were tagged, and their total height, diameter at breast height (dbh), and location by x and y coordinates were recorded. in addition, all individuals of associated woody species with dbh ≥ 5 cm were tagged, identified and their diameter and coordinates within the plot recorded. we calculated the spatial distribution and correlation patterns of the p. weberi population divided into two developmental stages, juveniles and adults, using ripley's index. a total of 18 species associated with p. weberi were recorded. p. weberiattained the highest index of relative importance value with 41.1 %, followed by acacia tenciifolia with 22.6 %. p. weberi individuals with total height greater than 8.5 m and diameters from 5 to 43.8 cm were recorded. the spatial distribution pattern was clumped for individuals in both juvenile and adult development stages. the spatial correlation showed a repulsion pattern at distances of 2 to 13 m between juvenile and adult p. weberi. the diameter distribution suggests an episodic recruitment behavior, with low recruitment rates in intermediate diameter classes between juveniles and adults.

Abstract: In this paper we present a technological study of the lithic industry recovered up to 2005 in the Asup level of the site of Molí del Salt. In view of the technological features and the radiocarbon dating (10990 + 50 and 10840 + 50 BP), this level belongs to the late upper Paleolithic. We also present a comparison between the lithic industry of the Asup level and the record from others sites from the peninsular mediterranean coast, specially those in south Catalonia, dated from this chronological period. En este artículo se presenta el análisis tecnológico de la industria lítica recuperada hasta el 2005 en el nivel Asup del Molí del Salt. Dadas sus características y las dataciones radiométricas disponibles (10990 + 50 y 10840 + 50 BP), este conjunto lítico debe de incluirse dentro de los momentos finales del Magdaleniense superior. Tras la presentación del análisis de la industria lítica de dicho nivel se expondrá una comparativa con otros yacimientos con dataciones similares del sur de Catalu a y también del resto de la vertiente mediterránea peninsular.

Abstract: Se estableció un banco de germoplasma con 99 introducciones de 10 especies del genero Solanum sub genero Leptosternonum de las cuales seis son silvestres. En cada introducción se practicó beneficio de semilla y posteriormente se les disminuyó el contenido de humedad hasta el 5 ± 1 %, para su almacenamiento y conservación. Con el fin de iniciar las observaciones y evaluaciones morfo-agronómicas se estableció un jardín de introducciones. Mediante estas observaciones preliminares se consiguió hacer un listado de descriptores que se someterán a prueba en próximos trabajos de caracterización. A germoplasma banks was established at Colombia-Palmira, including 99 accessions from 10 species of Solanum, subgenera Leptosternomun, 6 of which are wild species. Seed from each accession was treated, humidity was lowered down to 5 ± 1 %before storage. A garden was established in order to make morpho-agronomic observations and list descriptive characteristics to be observed in the future.

Abstract: red blood cell assay (rbc) intralaboratory validation was presented, specifically for linearity, repeatability and intermediate precision. rbc is an in vitro methodology employed for ocular irritation evaluation measuring surfactants adverse effects on cell membranes and proteins and is an alternative for draize ocular test. free hemoglobin after red blood cell lysis was determined through spectrometry at 577 nm in order to estimate medium hemolytic concentration (hc50) indicating cell damage by surfactant. also hemoglobin denaturation induced by high concentrations of surfactants was considered measuring denaturation index (di) through absorbance ratio at 542 and 577 determinations. hc50 / di is an indicator of the dodecylsulphate (sds) irritant potential, surfactant used in order to validate this assay. parameters previously mentioned were validated and we present an easy and reliable alternative methodology for animal experimentation to assess surfactants ocular irritation for sds.

Abstract: Se presentan los resultados de la validación intralaboratorio para los parámetros de linealidad, repetibilidad y precisión intermedia del ensayo en glóbulos rojos, metodología in vitro empleada para evaluar la irritación ocular. Este ensayo evaluó los efectos nocivos de los tensoactivos sobre membranas y proteínas celulares, y constituye así una alternativa al test de Draize. A través de espectrofotometría UV/VIS a 577 nm se midió la hemoglobina liberada tras la lisis de los glóbulos rojos, estimando la concentración hemolítica 50 (CH50), que constituye un indicador del da o celular ocasionado por el tensoactivo. El ensayo también consideró la desnaturalización de hemoglobina, causada por altas concentraciones del tensoactivo, por la relación de absorbancias a 542 y 577 nm, estimando el índice de desnaturalización (ID). La relación CH50/ID es un indicador cuantitativo del potencial irritante del dodecilsulfato de sodio (SDS), surfactante con el que se validó este ensayo. Se logró la validación de los parámetros se alados y se ofrece una metodología confiable y de fácil ejecución, alternativa al uso de animales, para evaluar la irritación ocular de tensoactivos.
