Production of Iron from Mill Scale Industrial Waste via Hydrogen  [PDF]

Mill scale is very attractive industrial waste due to its richness in iron (about = 72% Fe). In this paper, the characterizations of mill scale were studied by different methods of analyses. The produced mill scale briquettes were reduced with hydrogen at varying temperatures, and the reduction kinetics was determined. Two models were applied and the energy of activation was calculated.

Alkaline metals and hydrogen titanates are of great interest for possible applications. The qualities of soda ash and Rosetta ilmenite ore concentrate pellets were investigated. The kinetic formation of sodium titanate via roasting of soda ash and ilmenite pellets and powder was studied in the temperature range of 800C to 900C.

Abstract: The title compounds were prepared by reaction of 1,1'-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-pyrazole-3,4-diyl)diethanone ( 1) with different aromatic aldehydes 2a– c, namely Furfural ( 2a), 4-chlorobenzaldehyde ( 2b) and 4-methoxybenzaldhyde ( 2c) to yield the corresponding α,β-unsaturated ketones 3a– c. Compound 3 was reacted with malononitrile, 2-cyanoacetamide or 2-cyanothioacetamide yielded the corresponding bis[2-amino-6-(aryl)nicotinonitrile] 4a– c, bis[6-(2-aryl)-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile] 5a– c or bis[6-(2-aryl)-2-thioxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile] 6a, b, respectively. The reaction of compound 6a with each of 2-chloro- N-(4-bromophenyl) acetamide ( 7a), chloroacetamide ( 7b) in ethanolic sodium ethoxide solution at room temperature to give the corresponding 4,4'-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-pyrazole-3,4-diyl)bis-6-(2-furyl)thieno[2,3- b]pyridine-2-carboxamide] derivatives 9a, b. While compound 6a reacted with hydrazine hydrate yielded the 4,4'-(5-methyl-1-phenyl-1 H-pyrazole-3,4-diyl)bis[6-(2-furyl)-1 H-pyrazolo[3,4- b]pyridin-3-amine] 11. The structures of the products were elucidated based on their spectral properties, elemental analyses and, wherever possible, by alternate synthesis. Antimicrobial evaluation of the products was carried out.

Abstract: Introduction. Vaginal vault prolapse is a common complication following vaginal hysterectomy with negative impact on women's quality of life due to associated urinary, anorectal and sexual dysfunction. A clear understanding of the supporting mechanism for the uterus and vagina is important in making the right choice of corrective procedure. Management should be individualised, taking into consideration the surgeon's experience, patients age, comorbidities, previous surgery and sex life. Result. Preexisting pelvic floor defect prior to hysterectomy is the single most important risk factor for vault prolapse. Various surgical techniques have been advanced at hysterectomy to prevent vault prolapse. Studies have shown the McCall's culdoplasty under direct visualisation to be superior. Vault prolapse repair rely on either the use of patient's tissue or synthetic materials and can be carried out abdominally or vaginally. Sacrospinous fixation and abdominal sacrocolpopexy are the commonly performed procedures, with literature in favour of abdominal sacrocolpopexy over sacrospinous fixation due to its reported higher success rate of about 90%. Other less commonly performed procedures include uterosacral ligament suspension and illiococcygeal fixation, both of which are equally effective, with the former having a high risk of ureteric injury. Colpoclesis will play a greater role in the future as the aging population increases. Mesh procedures are gaining in popularity, and preliminary data from vaginal mesh procedures is encouraging. Laparoscopic techniques require a high level of skill and experience. There are many controversies on the mechanism of prolapse and management techniques, which we have tried to address in this article. Conclusion. As the aging population increases, the incidence of prolapse will also rise, older techniques using native tissue will continue, while new techniques using the mesh needs to be studied further. The later may well be the way forward in future.

Abstract: a local yeast isolate named a was isolated from polluted area of abou-qir gulf (alexandria, egypt), identified according to a partial sequence of 18srna as candida tropicalis. the isolate showed a high potency in petroleum oil biodegradation as well some hydrocarbons. morphological changes in cell diameter of this yeast were recognized upon growing the target cell in sea water medium supplemented with petroleum oil as sole carbon source in comparison to the growth in enriched medium. statistically-based experimental design was applied to evaluate the significance of factors on petroleum oil biodegradation by this yeast isolate. eleven culture conditions were examined by implementing plackett-burman factorial design where aeration, nh4cl and k2hpo4 had the most positive significance on oil degradation.

Effects of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle on Compact Stars

Abstract: Based on the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), proposed by some approaches to quantum gravity such as string theory and doubly special relativity theories, we investigate the effect of GUP on the thermodynamic properties of compact stars with two different components. We note that the existence of quantum gravity correction tends to resist the collapse of stars if the GUP parameter $\alpha$ is taking values between Planck scale and electroweak scale. Comparing with approaches, it is found that the radii of compact stars are found smaller. Increasing energy almost exponentially decreases the radii of compact stars.

Abstract: Recent approaches for quantum gravity are conjectured to give predictions for a minimum measurable length, a maximum observable momentum and an essential generalization for the Heisenberg uncertainty principle (GUP). The latter is based on a momentum-dependent modification in the standard dispersion relation and leads to Lorentz invariance violation (LIV). The main features of the controversial OPERA measurements on the faster-than-light muon neutrino anomaly are used to calculate the time of flight delays $\Delta t$ and the relative change $\Delta v$ in the speed of neutrino in dependence on the redshift $z$. The results are compared with the OPERA measurements. We find that the measurements are too large to be interpreted as LIV. Depending on the rest mass, the propagation of high-energy muon neutrino can be superluminal. The comparison with the ultra high energy cosmic rays seems to reveals an essential ingredient of the approach combining string theory, loop quantum gravity, black hole physics and doubly spacial relativity and the one assuming a pertubative departure from exact Lorentz invariance.
Effects of quantum gravity on the inflationary parameters and thermodynamics of the early universe

Abstract: The effects of generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) on the inflationary dynamics and the thermodynamics of the early universe are studied. Using the GUP approach, the tensorial and scalar density fluctuations in the inflation era are evaluated and compared with the standard case. We find a good agreement with the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe data. Assuming that a quantum gas of scalar particles is confined within a thin layer near the apparent horizon of the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe which satisfies the boundary condition, the number and entropy densities and the free energy arising form the quantum states are calculated using the GUP approach. A qualitative estimation for effects of the quantum gravity on all these thermodynamic quantities is introduced.
