The Pacific Equatorial Age Transect, IODP Expeditions 320 and 321: Building a 50-Million-Year-Long Environmental Record of the Equatorial Pacific Ocean

Abstract: In March 2009, the R/V JOIDES Resolution returned to operations after its extended refit and began with a drilling program ideally suited to its drilling strengths, the Pacific Equatorial Age Transect (PEAT, IODP Exp 320/321; Fig. 1A). The PEAT drilling program was developed to understand how a major oceanic region evolved over the Cenozoic Era(65–0 Ma) and how it interacted with global climate. It specifically targeted the interval between 52 Ma and 0 Ma and drilled a series of sites that originated on the paleoequator. These sites have since been moved to the northwest by plate tectonics.The equatorial Pacific is an important target for paleocean ographic study because it is a significant ‘cog’ in the Earth’s climate machine, representing roughly half of the total tropical oceans that in turn represent roughly half of the total global ocean area. Prior drilling in both the Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) and the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) outlined the changes that have occurred through the Cenozoic (e.g., van Andel et al., 1975; Pisias et al., 1995). Not only did the earlier work fail to cover sufficient timeintervals but also many of the sites were cored with ‘first-generation’ scientific drilling technology with incomplete and disturbed sediment recovery and thus cannot be used for detailed studies.

Abstract:

Cobalamin uptake into cells is mediated by the CD320 receptor for transcobalamin-bound cobalamin. Optimum receptor expression is associated with proliferating cells and therefore, in many cancers this receptor expression is up regulated. Delivering drugs or toxins via this receptor provides increased targeting to cancer cells while minimizing toxicity to the normal tissues. Saporin conjugated monoclonal antibodies to the extracellular domain of TCblR were effectively internalized to deliver a toxic dose of Saporin to some cancer cell lines propagating in culture. Antibody concentration of 2.5 nM was effective in producing optimum inhibition of cell proliferation. The cytotoxic effect of mAb-Saporin appears to be dictated primarily by the level of receptor expression and therefore normal primary cells expressing low levels of CD320 were spared while tumor cell lines with higher CD320 expression were destroyed. Targeting the pathway for cellular uptake of vitamin B12 via the CD320 receptor with toxin-antibody conjugates appears to be a viable treatment strategy for certain cancers that over expresses this receptor.

Abstract: 本文介绍了一种基于TMS320VC5410的实时语音信号采集与实时回放系统。介绍了整个系统的总体设计方案和软、硬件的设计。通过软件编程实现音频信号的采集与回放,并通过对一个实例效果分析,证明了本系统所采集的信号具有高保真度。
This paper puts forward an audio signal acquisition and real-time playing system based on TMS320C5410. It introduces the designing methods of the whole system, the software and the hardware. The audio signal acquisition and the real-time playing are completed with the software program. The result proves that the signals have high fidelity by analyzing a sample.

Abstract: The overseas Chinese (OC) form a vast network of powerful interest groups and important political actors capable of shaping the future of China from abroad by transmitting values back to their ancestral homeland (Tu 1991). While the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) welcomes and actively seeks to foster relations with the OC in order to advance China’s national interests, some cohorts may be hostile to the regime. In accordance with their distinct demographic and ethnic pro-files, the CCP’s qiaowu (侨务, OC affairs) infrastructure serves to entice, co-opt, or isolate various OC groupings. This article summarises the policies for managing different subsets of OC over the past three dec-ades, and argues that through qiaowu, the CCP has successfully unified cooperative groups for China’s benefit, while preventing discordant ones from eroding its grip on power.

Abstract: The current consumption method of Electric Power Industry is “electricity consumption first, paying for it later”. The trend of consumption method is Pre-order Electricity. If we adopt the Pre-order Electricity System, we need to replace Traditional Energy Meter with Prepayment Energy Meter. But this alteration is costly. And the alarm action of Prepayment Energy Meter are bells and alarm lamp, users can not receive alarm information timely. In this paper, we present the design of Multi-user Electric Power Management Device. The device uses TMS320F2812 as CPU, with peripheral devices such as mobile phone communication module MC55, so the device supports remote operation and sends alarm information via SMS, it also can communicate with the master station by GPRS. The device can be seamlessly integrated into the existing power system in order to read meter, achieve billing and Pre-order Electricity functions. In addition, the device has the Harmonic Measurement function, so it is a high cost-effective application.

Abstract: In three-dimensional computed tomography angiography (3D-CTA) in our facility, we usually scan the volume of the brain according to the bolus tracking method. Fluoroscopic slice is placed at the Willis’s ring and the timing of scan is determined subjectively by a radiological technologist after strong enhancement of the basal cerebral artery is confirmed. In these procedures, however, variation of scan timing is often problematic. Therefore, we design the surpassing method to place the small region-of-interest (ROI) at the basal cerebral arteries and to start CT scan automatically. In this protocol, the fluoroscopic slices of the distal internal carotid arteries are selected referring to the precontrast volume data, small ROIs are set in bilateral internal carotid arteries, and scan trigger of CT is started automatically at the threshold of 170 HU. The maximum 80 mL of iodine contrast agent 300 mgI/mL is injected intravenously at the rate of 4.0 mL/sec, and the volume of the arterial phase is scanned automatically. We measure ROIs at the internal carotid arteries based on the obtained volume data of arterial phase and estimate the optimal scan timings from the fluoroscopic CT images reformatted at the intervals of 0.1 sec. In 38 of 53 patients, placement of the small ROIs is succeeded and automatic or manual CT scan is performed. In the patients who succeed in placement of the small ROIs, optimal scan timing of the arterial phase is obtained, while in the patients who fail placement of the small ROIs, a large variation is observed in their scan timings. Their results suggest that more stable scanning of the arterial phase is available by means of small ROI placement and automatic scanning. The clinical significance is large because the stability and reproducibility of the examination provide a quantitative analysis and more accurate diagnosis.
