Alphanumeric Journal , 2015, DOI: 10.17093/aj.2016.4.2.5000185408
Abstract: In this study, we propose a new descriptive statistic, coefficient of variation function, for functional data analysis and present its utilization. We recommend coefficient of variation function, especially when we want to compare the variation of multiple curve groups and when the mean functions are different for each curve group. Besides, obtaining coefficient of variation functions in terms of cubic B-Splines enables the interpretation of the first and second derivative functions of these functions and provides a stronger inference for the original curves. The utilization and effects of the proposed statistic is reported on a well-known data set from the literature. The results show that the proposed statistic reflects the variability of the data properly and this reflection gets clearer than that of the standard deviation function especially as mean functions differ.

An Approach to Subclinical Cervical Myelopathy: A Case Report
Ju?lide ?NCü,Banu KURAN,Figen Kymen YILMAZ
Türkiye Fiziksel Tip ve Rehabilitasyon Dergisi , 2012,
Abstract: Cervical myelopathy is a spinal cord lesion caused by cervical stenosis compressing the spinal cord and vascular structures. Despite the common occurrence and large amount of information has been published about cervical myelopathy for at least 50 years, the effectiveness of the conservative and surgical treatments on the natural history, pathogenesis and especially the prognosis of the disease is still controversial. As a result of this controversy, in everyday clinical practice many doctors are still hesitant to commit themselves to a treatment regimen and are unable to predict the natural course of the disease. Although cervical cord compression is pre-requisite for the clinical diagnosis and detected easily by myelomalacic signal changes on MRI, previous studies have demonstrated the existence of asymptomatic spinal cord compression detected by MRI. Little is known about the spontaneous course and prognosis of clinically ”silent” or “subclinical” cervical cord myelomalasia. In addition, conflicting data on the prognosis and the treatment of this subclinical patient group exist in the literature. In order to determine the prognosis and patient-specific treatment modality; duration of symptoms, detailed neurological assessment made at regular intervals, electrophysiological findings, clinical myelopathy scoring methods such as the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Score as well as myelomalacic changes should be taken into consideration and decision-making must then be based on the evaluation of all these information. In this report, we aimed to report a 54-year-old man with subclinical cervical cord myelomalasia and to discuss the clinical and radiological findings, prognosis and optimal treatment regimen in the light of the literature. Acta Silvatica & Lignaria Hungarica , 2012,
Abstract: The fact that certain ecological factors fundamentally influencing tree growth have become unfavourable in Hungary in recent years, has led to the more extensive use of white poplar (and its hybrids) in afforestation and forest regeneration. An intensive integrated research and development work has been carried out on the growth of Leuce poplars on sandy soils, including primarily the white poplar (Populus alba) and its natural hybrid the grey poplar (Populus x canescens). The research revealed several factors influencing stand growth. The study presents a new, simplified tending operation model for Leuce poplar stands, as well as age, growing space and target diameter models suitable for qualitaty log production and for mass assortments. The simplicity of these practice-oriented models may foster the qualitative development of Leuce poplar management in Hungary.
Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) Short-Rotation Crops under Marginal Site Conditions

Acta Silvatica & Lignaria Hungarica , 2011,
Abstract: The improvement of the reliability of renewable resources and the decline in reserves offossile raw material in the coming decades will lead to increasing demands for wood material andconsequently to a greater role of short rotation forestry (SRF). Particular efforts have been made inEurope to substitute fossils with renewables, in this context the proportion of renewable energy shouldbe increased to 20% by 2020. SRF can be provide relatively high dendromass (biomass) incrementrates if the short rotation tree plantations are grown under favourable site conditions and for anoptimum rotation length. However, in many countries only so-called marginal sites are available forsetting up tree plantations for energy purpose. For SRF under marginal site conditions black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia L.) can be considered as one of the most promising tree species thanks to itsfavourable growing characteristics. According to a case study presented in the paper black locust canproduce a Mean Annual Increment (MAI) of 2.9 to 9.7 oven-dry tons ha–1 yr–1 at ages between 3 and7 years using a stocking density of 6667 stems ha–1. On the base of the presented results and accordingto international literature the expected dendromass volume shows great variation, depending upon site, species, their cultivars, initial spacing and length of rotation cycle.
Early Evaluation of Promising White Poplar (Populus alba L.) Clones in Hungary
RéDEI, Károly,KESER, Zsolt,SZULCSáN, Gábor
Acta Silvatica & Lignaria Hungarica , 2010,
Abstract: White poplar (Populus alba L.) and its natural hybrid, grey poplar (Populus x canescens) are native stand-forming tree species in Hungary, covering 3.4 per cent of the forested area (64 000 ha). More than 70 per cent of their stands and plantations can be found on calcareous sandy sites in the Danube–Tisza region, so they play a significant role in the poplar growing of this part of the country. One of the most important tasks ahead of Hungarian poplar growers is to improve the quality of poplar stands and plantations for wood production based on selecting relatively drought-tolerant clones and cultivars. In the paper the juvenile growth and the morphological characteristics of four micropropagated white poplar clones have been evaluated on a marginal site in central Hungary. The clones ‘H-337’ (P. alba x P. grandidentata) and ‘H-384‘ (P. alba x P. grandidentata) appear to be especially promising for quality wood production under arid hydrological conditions.

Abstract: eukaryotic elongation factor 2 (eef-2) can undergo adp-ribosylation in the absence of diphtheria toxin. the binding of free adp-ribose and endogenous transferase-dependent adp-ribosylation were distinct reactions for eef-2, as indicated by different findings. incubation of eef-2 tryptic fragment 32/33 kda (32f) with nad was adp-ribosylated and gave rise to the covalent binding of adp-ribose to eef-2. 32f was revealed to be at the c-terminal by edman degradation sequence analysis. in our study, the elution of 32f from sds-page was adp-ribosylated both in the presence and absence of diphtheria toxin. these results suggest that endogenous adp-ribosylation of 32f might be related to protein synthesis. this modification appears to be important for the cell function.

Journal of Clinical and Analytical Medicine , 2011, DOI: 10.4328
Abstract: Aim: Pneumothorax knows a common clinical problem. Mini axillary thoracotomy major indication is pneumothorax surgery, allowing easily apical resection and pleurectomy with excellent longterm results. Herein, we describe our experience with the axillary thoracotomy for the treatment of pneumothorax. Material and Methods; A total of 56 cases underwent mini axillary thoracotomy with the diagnosis of primary spontaneous pneumothorax in our department between 1996- 2008. Fifty four of the cases were males (96.5%) and two (3.5%) were females with a mean age of 28.2 (17-43). Twenty-nine cases (51.7%) had right pneumothorax and 27 (48.3%) left pneumothorax. Results: We performed apical wedge resection and apical pleurectomy in 33 cases (59%), bullae ligation and apical pleurectomy in 23 cases (41%). Four patients evelopped morbidity. There was no mortality. Median hospital stay was 4.5 day (3-8). During 13 years follow up recurrens was not detected. Conclusions: A mini axillary thoracotomy was short hospital stay, cosmetically acceptable was not recurrence. A mini axillary thoracotomy is a good choice when a spontaneous pneumothorax requires surgery due to excellent results for the patient.
