Dogal Afetler ve Cevre Dergisi , 2015, DOI: 10.21324/dacd.55055
Abstract: This study was conducted to investigate the dispersion of spatial source CO and NOx emissions with the help of different models in Korfez District, Kocaeli Province. Emissions from residential areas were chosen as the spatial source in the region and residents were divided into four different sections. The residential area is 5.31 km2 and natural gas, fuel-oil, wood, and coal are used as heating fuels in this district. With the help of the obtained data, emission rates were calculated using the mass-based emission factors of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These ratios were divided into residential areas and data were obtained in g/s.m2 and these data were entered to AERMOD, ISCST-3 and CALPUFF VIEW programs for the purpose of modelling. As a result of the modelling study, daily and annual dispersion maps were obtained. When the maps were examined, with AERMOD, the daily maximum concentrations of CO and NO were estimated to be 651,27 μg/m3, 18,29 μg/m3 while the annual concentrations were found as 128,47 μg/m3 and 2,90 μg/m3, respectively. The obtained daily maximum CO and NOx values with the help of ISCST-3 program were as 290,29 μg/m3 and 11,77 μg/m3 and the maximum annual values were as 86,48 μg/m3 and 1,95 μg/m3, respectively. The values of CO and NOx emissions obtained with the help of CALPUFF modelling program were as 692,67 μg/m3 and 15,64 μg/m3 , respectively, on daily basis and as 124,08 μg/m3 and 4,53 μg/m3 respectively, on annual basis. While there seemed to be a similarity in all three programs for CO when considering dispersion directions on the distribution maps, it was pointed out that the concentrations dispersed in the direction of east and west of Korfez district on AERMOD and CALPUFF maps as this dispersion was towards to the west of the county on ISCST-3 map. On NOx distribution maps, the residential areas of Korfez district were observed as the locations of density for NOx. The concentration propagation directions were same for all three programs particularly for annual dispersions maps and the concentration levels at receiver points in these directions were also determined as equal.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2008,
Abstract: This study investigated the relationships between university students’ social intelligence and their levels of depression. The basic research assumption was that high social intelligence would be in an interaction with low depression. It was expected that there would be negative correlation between subscales of Social Intelligence Scale: social skills, social information processing and social awareness. Two measures were used for this study. Tromso Social Intelligence Scale (TSIS; Silvera, et al., 2001) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI; Beck, et al., 1961). 520 university students (287 female and 233 male) from Sakarya University/Turkey took the social intelligence scale and depression inventory. One way ANOVA and correlation were used to statistically evaluate the data. According to the procedure randomly chosen university students were divided into three social intelligence groups as high, medium and low by using the scores of Tromso Social Intelligence Scale. The research findings showed some significant relations between social intelligence and level of depression. Also some significant correlations were found between Social Skills and Social Awareness but no statistically significant interactions were observed among the Social Information Processing and level of depression. Finally, the limitations of the present study and the implications for future researches are discussed.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of children’s reading activities carried out by adolescents for their siblings on their reading habits. The study is an experimental study with a pretest-posttest model and experimental and control groups. Its sample included 56 adolescents aged 15-16 with siblings aged 4-5 in kindergarten (n: 56). As the pretest and posttest, Gomleksiz’s Attitude Scale on Book Reading Habituation (2004) was used. After the pretest, adolescents read to their younger siblings 2 days a week for 25 minutes during a 14-week period. The posttest data collected were examined, and no statistically significant difference was found between the experimental and control groups. These results indicate that adolescents reading for their siblings may support their potential for book reading habituation, but this practice alone is insufficient.

Iranian Journal of Parasitology , 2010,
Abstract: Background: Toxocariasis is a common disease around the world. Our objective was to determine Toxocara seroprevalence in humans in the city of Isparta, Southwest Turkey, in respect of some determinants such as age, socio-economic level, residence in city center or rural area etc. Methods: Five hundred and thirty four individual participants from Isparta center and 85 from Asagi Gokdere village were included in the study. T. cati specific antibodies were ana-lyzed using excretory-secretory (ES)-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results: T. cati antibodies were detected as positive in 73 (13.6%) of 534 samples which were collected from subjects living in the city center and 24 (28.2%) of 85 samples from Asagi Gokdere village. Toxocara seropositivity was detected among 15.6% of whole study group. The seroprevalence of toxocariasis was significantly higher among subjects from vil-lage than in subjects from city center (P=0.001). While gender, high school education, source of the water which is used, family income and geophagia/eating nail behaviors were the fea-tures which were detected as being associated with toxocariasis seropositivity (odds ratios= 0.5; 6.52; 3.61; 0.43; 0.13 respectively), owning dogs or cats and hand washing were de-tected as being not associated with toxocariasis seropositivity (P > 0.05). Furthermore, Toxo-cara seropositivity was significantly higher among subjects in 0-10 than >40 year-old group (P=0.02).Conclusion: It can be suggested that untreated lost pet population, environmental contamination, and way of life have influence on the epidemiology of toxocariasis.

Journal of Clinical and Analytical Medicine , 2012, DOI: 10.4328
Abstract: Extended surgery is described as extensive surgical interventions beyond classical definitions and margins. We aimed to investigate our extended surgical techniques in three cases with advanced aggressive head and neck tumors of skin and soft tissue origin. After radical wide surgical resections, two patients had survival periods of more than expected with an acceptable functional and psychological palliation, although, one patient was lost due to infectious complications. The experience obtained from these two patients is encouraging. Our observations suggest that extended radical surgical resections may be performed successfully for the patients with advanced and aggressive head and neck tumors in experienced centers.

Zeitschrift für die Welt der Türken , 2013,
Abstract: In this article, the structuring of mukhtarship organization in Ni de, which began to be established during the period of Mahmud II, first in Istanbul and then in downstate, will be discussed. Although innovations in various fields had been attempted in the Ottoman Empire as from the XVIIth century, they were not successful. In the XVIIIth century, the innovations attempted during the period of Selim III were mainly in military and financial fields. However, it was soon recognised that the problems would not be solved with such regularizations and further innovations were made in the field of administration. Sultan Mahmud II attempted to make administrative innovations after he removed the Guild of Janissaries in 1826, and in this way he aimed to reinforce the central authority. One of the attempts made by Mahmud II in order to reinforce the central authority was to establish the mukhtarship organization. The mukhtarship organization became widespread with declaration of the Reforms. In our study, after the establishment of the mukhtarship organization is touched on briefly, as well the structure and function of neighborhood in the Ottoman Empire, the establishment of the mukhtarship organization in Ni de and Bor and the mukhtars assigned there will be mentioned, based upon documents.
Socio-Demographic Predictors of EFL Teacher Efficacy

Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies , 2007,
Abstract: Research on teachers’ beliefs and their impact on teacher cognition has been arelevant topic for educational inquiry for some decades. Teachers’ actions are tied totheir beliefs, perceptions, assumptions and motivation levels. Thus, research on teachers’beliefs is crucial in determining the way teachers understand and organize instruction. One important belief that appears to be an important influence on teacher and studentoutcomes is teacher efficacy. In accordance with this view and due to the increasingdemand for English as a foreign language education, the present study aimed to assessEFL teachers’ efficacy level and explore the socio-demographic predictors of teacherefficacy in an EFL setting, i.e., Turkey. 226 EFL teachers working at the preparatoryschools of public and private universities in Istanbul participated in this study. Data werecollected by means of quantitative methods; i.e., the Ohio State Teacher Efficacy Scale(adapted from Tschannen-Moran & Hoy, 2001) and the School-Level EnvironmentQuestionnaire (Fisher & Fraser, 1990).Data collected by means of these instruments weresubmitted to correlation and regression analysis and independent samples t-tests. Resultsof the study showed that the number of professional activities teachers were involved in,average number of students in teachers’ classes, working position, type of institution, andgender were the socio-demographic factors that predicted variations in EFL teachers’efficacy in this study.
