Araújo, íris Morais;
Anais do Museu Paulista: História e Cultura Material , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-47142010000200005
Abstract: this article centers itself in the inheritance of milit?o augusto de azevedo (1837-1905) with the objective of investigate the different ways he represented the modernization process in the last decades of the 19th century in brazil and especially in the city of s?o paulo. the milit?o's documents analysis - photographs, letters and a índice das fotografias de antigos paulistas - configures a multiplicity of meanings about the transformations occurred in the s?o paulo city since 1860, and in the brazilian politics after the republic's proclamation. the character's comments about his changing world asseverate that, less than directly related to the "progress", the photographer's representations form an amalgam of mismatched temporalities, which imbricate and tension themselves.

Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X2008000500011
Abstract: objective: to describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of child/adolescence multiple sclerosis (ms). method: according to a descriptive, cohort study, with comparison of groups, data of 31 cases of child/adolescent ms, diagnosed at state reference center for demyelinating diseases - hospital da restaura??o, recife, pernambuco, brazil, from 1987 to july 2007, were analyzed. the variables were: sex, initial symptoms, time for diagnosis, time of disease onset (early childhood, later childhood and adolescence), time of follow-up, number of relapses, relapses index and disability. using spss software, version 13.0, t student and mann-whitney tests were performed, with significance level of 0.05. results: there were 3 (9.7%) cases of early childhood ms, 9 (29%), of late childhood ms, and 19 (61.3%), of adolescence ms. the general sex rate female: male was 1.8:1, varying according to age of onset. the predominant deficits were motor (12; 38.7%) and brainstem/cerebellum (7; 22.5%) especially on subsequent relapses of relapsing/remitting form. time for diagnosis and average relapses index were higher in early childhood than in adolescence class (p=0.049 and p=0.028, respectively). disability was higher for primary and secondary ms, as well as for early childhood. conclusion: early childhood ms presents proper and different characteristics from adults, consisting in a difficult diagnosis that demands aid of expert neurologist on ms.
Matemáticas sociales y estructuras del liberalismo: teoría de juegos e hipergrafos
POLYMéRIS,ANDREAS;
Revista Integración , 2012,
Abstract: abstract. the main results of social mathematics were inspired by the liberal economical and political ideas that started to prevail in the 18th century. this review focuses on theorems that reveal the limitations of liberalism. to organize collaboration, this social paradigm recommends negotiated solutions. but to ensure the existence of such equilibrium, the action domains may need to be restricted. structures have to be imposed that typically favor rich and powerful agents. even so, they cannot avoid economical situations in which the entailed equilibrium turns out to be very disappointing for everybody. such paradoxical situations can be solved only if, due to solidarity commitments, the agents can trust each other. the review also comments on attitudes and considerations that should orient the practice of social mathematics.

Silva, Noadia íris da;
Revista Brasileira de Linguística Aplicada , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-63982010000400007
Abstract: in this research we investigate how elementary school portuguese teachers are dealing with the crash between traditional grammar teaching and the new proposals of language teaching that aim to outdo this traditional approach by developing what the national curriculum parameters for portuguese language calls axis of reflection and analysis on language. from a theoretical standpoint, we support the assumptions of applied linguistics and the methodological point of view in of the qualitative approach. our results indicate the coexistence of different theoretical and methodological perspectives in the practice of teachers in this axis, and these perspectives are more clearly delineated on the basis of linguistic contents selected and taught in the classroom.
Abstract: Semiodiversity is a concept to denominate the sphere of life that refers, particularly, to the realm of signs. Although it has been created in the context of biodiversity, it assigns a wider territory, which is almost unknown. Contrary to biodiversity, it is not a trendy' term, even though embeding a much wider scope. The most different languages, signs and cultural codes can be found in the domain of semiodiversity. In this article, the defense of semiodiversity is a way to preserve human life at this moment of humanadventure on Earth.
Gender Studies hold an important place in Byzantine Studies. Roles of women and eunuchs as well as masculinity and male domination in the Byzantine society are now well recognized. Gender studies in Byzantium do reflect the diversity and the specificity of this society.
Nutrient Input and CO2 Flux of a Tropical Coastal Fluvial System with High Population Density in the Northeast Region of Brazil  [PDF]
Moacyr Araujo, Carlos Noriega,ris Veleda, Nathalie Lefèvre
Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2013.53A037
Abstract:

The carbon dioxide flux through the air-water interface of coastal freshwater ecosystems must be quantified to understand the regional balances of carbon and its transport through coastal and estuarine regions. The variations in air-sea CO2 fluxes in nearshore ecosystems can be caused by the variable influence of rivers. In the present study, the amount of carbon emitted from a tropical coastal river was estimated using climatological and biogeochemical measurements (2002-2010) obtained from the basin of the Capibaribe River, which is located in the most populous and industrialized area of the northeast region of Brazil. The results showed a mean CO2 flux of +225 mmol·m-2·d-1, mainly from organic material from the untreated domestic and industrial wastewaters that are released into the river. This organic material increased the dissolved CO2 concentration in the river waters, leading to a partial pressure of CO2 inthe aquatic environment that reached 31,000 μatm. The months of April, February and December (the dry period) showed the largest monthly means for the variables associated with the carbonate system (, DIC, CO2(aq), CO32-, TA, temperature and pH). This status reflects the state of permanent pollution in the basin of the Capibaribe River, due, in particular, to the discharge of untreated domestic wastewater, which results in the continuous mineralization of organic material. This mineralization significantly increases the dissolved CO2 content in the estuarine and coastal waters, which is

Osteologia do sincranio de Ceratophrys aurita (Raddi, 1823) (Anura, Leptodactylidae)
Gayer, Stela Máris Pires;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 1983, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81751983000300003
Abstract: the syncranial osteology of ceratophrys aurita, a largosized and characteristic anuran of southeastern brazil, is described. the main osteological features and their resultant manifestations, as well as the exostosic dermal ornamentation and the specialized dentition clearly confirm this species as a terrestrial, fossorial and phragmotic type, with active predatory habits.
