Revista Brasileira de Saúde e Produ??o Animal , 2008,
Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the meat mineral composition from different genetic groups’ cattle with distinct ages. The samples were obtained from sixteen castrated Nellore and F1 Sindi x Nellore cattle with 36 and 48 months of age. The animals were finished in feedlot in the UFRuralRJ, received the same diet and presented average weights of 318,8 (±17,8)kg and 460,0 (±10,1)kg at the beginning of the experimental period and slaughter, respectively. After the carcass colding, was collected a portion of Longissimus dorsi between the 12a and 13a ribs to the analysis of the mineral composition. The experimental design was the completely randomized in factorial arrangement 2x2 with two genetic groups (Nellore and F1 Sindi x Nellore) and two ages (36 and 48 months). F1 Sindi x Nellore bovines present major sodium (122,86g/kg vs 104,16g/kg) and potassium (19,56mg/kg vs 16,96mg/kg) contents in their meats in relation to Nellore. There was no influence of age in the meat mineral contents from the evaluated animals. In these experimental conditions, it is concluded that the inclusion of the Sindi breed in crossbreed programs with Nellore bovines results in increasing of sodium and potassium contents in the meats from F1 Sindi x Nellore animals.

Abstract: The transplant of hematopoietic stem-cells is a procedure that causes a lot of distress to the patientand family. This study analyses the changes occurred in the occupational roles of patients that have undergonetransplants, in the late stage, assisted in a considerable university hospital located in the interior of the State ofSao Paulo. It is a quantitative research based on the use of an international protocol validated in Brazil: TheOccupational Role Checklist. The survey consists of 52 subjects: 26 of the experimental group and 26 of the controlgroup. Through the comparative analysis between the groups, statistically significant differences were observedbetween the occupational roles of workers, volunteers, friends and participants in organizations. It was possibleto conclude that, after the critic stage right after transplant, although they have experienced some losses, the bonemarrow transplanted subjects changed their occupational lives, having resumed or changed their occupational roles.

Clinics , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-59322011000900001
Abstract: objective: the purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between body adiposity and postural control in elderly women. introduction: aging and obesity account for a significant portion of healthcare spending. life expectancy is increasing worldwide, and rio de janeiro has the largest proportion of elderly residents of all brazilian states. methods: a total of 45 women underwent bioelectrical impedance analysis, waist circumference measurements, weight and height measurements, and stabilometric tests in eight different stance conditions (opened and closed bases with both eyes opened and closed and right and left tandem and unilateral stances with eyes opened). during unilateral stances, the number of hand or foot contacts was counted. results: weight, body mass index, waist circumference, fat percentage, and fat mass showed statistically significant (p,0.05) and positive correlations with the number of contacts made during unilateral stances. the subjects with greater fat mass showed significantly higher anterior-posterior standard deviation and range when their eyes were closed. the sway area was also greater for this group in opened base when their eyes were closed. discussion: the results relating body adiposity and postural control can be explained by the difficulty of maintaining a greater quantity of body fat mass within the limits of the individual support base, especially while assuming a unilateral stance. conclusion: the subjects with a greater fat mass exhibited poor balance control, indicating that body adiposity level was associated with postural control in the elderly women examined in the present study.

Abstract: introduction: visceral leishmaniasis has been notified in nearly all states of brazil, and particularly in the north of minas gerais, where the disease is endemic. the aim of this study was to detect natural infection of lutzomyia longipalpis and, through the pcr/rflp technique, identify leishmania species found in sandflies in the municipality of janaúba. methods: using light traps, 1,550 females of l. longipalpis were caught and grouped into pools of 10 specimens to be subjected to dna extraction and amplification, by means of generic pcr and cacophony. results: out of the 155 pools, six were positive for leishmania sp., and thus the infection rate in the municipality was 3.9%. through pcr/rflp, the digestion pattern among the positive samples was found to be similar to that of the reference strain of leishmania chagasi (mhom/br/74/pp75). conclusions: the detection of natural infection associated with studies on the epidemiology of visceral leishmaniasis suggests that l. longipalpis is involved in transmission of l. infantum chagasi in janaúba, particularly in areas of intense transmission of visceral leishmaniasis.

Abstract: in brazil, visceral leishmaniasis (vl) is caused by leishmania chagasi parasites that are transmitted to man through the bites of infected females of lutzomyia longipalpis sand flies. in order to evaluate transmission risk and to clarify the epidemiology of this tropical disease, studies focused on the vector and favorable environmental conditions are of fundamental importance. in this work, we surveyed the phlebotomine sand fly fauna in janaúba, a brazilian municipality that is endemic for vl. during a two-year period, entomological captures were performed monthly in 15 districts with high, moderate and low profiles of vl transmission. a total of 14,591 phlebotomine sand flies were captured (92% l. longipalpis), with a predominance of males. most specimens were captured in the peri-domicile setting, although the number of specimens captured in the intra-domicile setting emphasises the anthropophilic behaviour of this insect. the population density of l. longipalpis was modulated by climate variations, particularly with clear increases immediately after the rainy season. however, the pattern of distribution did not coincide with the occurrence of human or canine cases of vl. this suggests that the eco-epidemiology of vl is particular to each area of transmission and must be taken into account during the design of public health control actions.

Abstract: introduction: a study on the phlebotomine sandfly fauna was carried out in an endemic area for american tegumentary leishmaniasis in the municipality of governador valadares, in the state of minas gerais, brazil. methods: captures were undertaken using hp light traps in four districts, on three nights per month, for one year (from january to december 2008). correlations between climatic factors (temperature, relative air humidity and rainfall) and the numbers of sandflies collected was observed. results: 5,413 phlebotomine specimens were caught and were identified as belonging to 12 species. of these specimens, 2,851 (52%) were females and 2,562 (48%) were males. conclusions: lutzomyia intermedia predominated (29.9% of the species caught), thus suggesting that they were responsible for transmission of american tegumentary leishmaniasis, together with l. whitmani, which was also found in the area (4.3%). the presence of l. longipalpis (11.9%), the main vector for visceral leishmaniasis in brazil, is an important finding, which makes rigorous entomological surveillance of the area necessary.

Fractal : Revista de Psicologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-02922011000200004
Abstract: the aim of this study is to give visibility to the construction of a conceptual cartography, in which it is possible to analyse the movement of the supervised training program as a teachers' formation politics, as well as to make evident the contributions of the intervention-research and cartography for the teachers' formation area. for this purpose, a conceptual and methodological construction are presented in the discussion by means of the cartography and the intervention-research; the analysis of the log books, both from the teacher as the students, and the notes created during the school semester. within this context of analysis, the inventive formation is discussed by means of existence aesthetics constitution and the political problem of supervised training during teacher's formation, taking this problem under a micropolitical dimension. it can be concluded that these are tools for facing the complexity of the school, taking it as the constitution of a territory in movement, that struggles to be a factory and user of a living knowledge.
Os primórdios da doutrina de seguran?a nacional: a escola superior de guerra
Oliveira, Nilo Dias de;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742010000200008
Abstract: this article aims to analyze the national war college (escola superior de guerra (esg)) in view of its components in the formulation of a national security doctrine in the 50s, through the reports of the secret service of the bureau of political and social order of s?o paulo - dops-sp and the personal archive of general juarez távora from documentary collection of cpdoc-fgv. the size of this doctrine was not just the mere participation in the intense national political struggle which was in the civil society and the the armed forces in that context, but a project of hegemony which will become effective at a theoretical consolidation of the bonapartist bourgeois autocracy after 64. within this vision, only the military would be able to alter the character, culture and temperament of the brazilian people.
