Atividade inseticida de óleos essenciais e fixos sobre Callosobruchus maculatus (FABR., 1775) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) em gr?os de caupi [Vigna unguiculata (L.) WALP.]

Abstract: the weevil callosobruchus maculatus (fabr.) is considered the most important pest of cowpea, vigna unguiculata (l.) walp., stored in tropical and subtropical regions. focusing to minimize the undesired effects of synthetic chemical insecticides, vegetal origin oils are a promissory alternative to control it because of its low cost and safety to the applicator and consumers. essential oils [(cymbopogon martini (roxb.) j.f. watson], piper aduncum l., piper hispidinervum c.dc., melaleuca sp. and lippia gracillis shauer) and fixed oils (helianthus annuus l., sesamum indicum l., gossypium hirsutum l., glycine max (l.) merr. and caryocar brasiliense camb.) were tested in cowpea grains (cv. "sempre verde"). these oils were used in concentrations of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50ml/20g, corresponding to 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 l/t and impregnated to the grains into the plastic recipients using an automatic pipette and handly agitated for two minutes. plots of 20g from cowpea were infested with eight females of c. maculatus from 0 to 48 hours old. each oil was tested separately in a randomly arrangement with six replicates. the essential oils of c. martini, p. aduncum and l. gracillis provoked 100% of mortality in all concentrations, p. hispedinervum from 1.5 l/t and melaleuca sp. in the concentrations of 2.0 and 2.5 l/t. the reduction of the viable eggs and emerged insects was about 100%, except for melaleuca sp. on the other hand, the fixed oils, in spite of its low mortality in all tested concentrations, reduced to almost 100% the number of the viable eggs and emerged insects.

Abstract: considering the damage caused by the insect pest callosobruchus maculatus (fabr., 1775) to stored vigna unguiculata walp beans, this work aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of extracts of piper nigrum l. in the control of adults of the referred species. the statistical outline used was made at random with four repetitions and factorial arrangement 3 x 5, formed by three concentrations of the extract and five periods of exposure to the extracts (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 minutes). p. nigrum grounded dry fruits were used for extraction , which was done with ethyl alcohol (70, 50 and 30%), using a percolator. the extracts were applied as steam, using an adapted compressor into a container having 100 insects. by the results it was possible to conclude that the mortality of the insects becomes higher as the period of exposure to the extracts is increased, and that all the concentrations were shown to be effective, although, in terms of absolute values, the extract with 70% of ethyl alcohol was the most effective one.
Radia o microondas para o controle de pupas de Callosobruchus maculatus em cultivares de feij o-caupi Microwave radiation to control Callosobruchus maculatus pupae in cowpea cultivars

Abstract: Objetivou-se neste trabalho investigar os efeitos da radia o microondas em pupas de Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabr., 1775) nas cultivares de feij o-caupi (Vigna unguiculata) BRS Paragua u e BRS Xique-xique. Para a radia o, utilizou-se um forno microondas comercial, com frequência de 2.450 MHz, rendimento de potência de 800 W, em baixa potência (30%), sendo os tempos de exposi o à radia o microondas 0, 60, 90, 120 e 150 segundos. Observou-se, para ambas as cultivares, redu o no número de insetos emergidos por gr o, número de insetos emergidos por tratamento e aumento do período ovo-adulto, com exposi o a 60 segundos de radia o. Os tempos de 90, 120 e 150 segundos de exposi o à radia o microondas foram letais para 100% das pupas de C. maculatus The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of microwave radiation on Callosobruchus maculates (Fabr., 1775) pupae in the cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) cultivars BRS Paragua u and BRS Xique-xique. The irradiation was made using a commercial microwave oven with a 2450 MHz frequency, 800 W power output, in low power (30%), with exposure periods to microwave radiation of 0, 60, 90, 120 and 150 seconds. It was observed, for both cultivars, reduction of the number of insects emerged per grain, number of insects emerged per treatment and increase in the egg to adult period, with 60 seconds exposure to microwave radiation. The 90, 120 and 150 seconds exposure periods to microwave radiation were lethal to 100% of the C. maculates pupae.
Estabilidade da resistência de genótipos de caupi a Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabr.) em gera es sucessivas  [cached]

Abstract: Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabr.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) é a principal praga do caupi (Vigna unguiculata L.) armazenado em condi es tropicais e subtropicais. Avaliaram-se a estabilidade da resistência e a capacidade de adapta o de C. maculatus a genótipos de caupi, durante seis gera es. Utilizou-se o teste sem chance de escolha, em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial, com dez tratamentos, seis gera es do inseto e cinco repeti es. Cada repeti o constou de 30 gr os infestados com dois casais da praga. O número de ovos/fêmea diferiu entre os genótipos de caupi apenas na sexta gera o, e entre as gera es em BR14-Mulato, Bico de Pato, TE90-180-3E e TE87-98-8G. A viabilidade de ovos diferiu entre as gera es em BR17-Gurguéia, BR14-Mulato, IT89KD-260 e IT89KD-245, e entre os genótipos nas terceira, quinta e sexta gera es. Os genótipos diferiram entre e dentro das gera es, em rela o à dura o e a viabilidade da fase imatura. Observou-se redu o na emergência, especialmente em IT89KD-245, IT89KD-260, CNC 0434, Bico de Pato, TE90-180-10F e BR14-Mulato, provavelmente devido a substancias químicas presentes nos gr os que afetaram a sobrevivência dos insetos, ao longo das gera es. Os genótipos IT89KD-245 e IT89KD-260 comportaram-se como moderadamente resistentes. N o se observou adapta o de C. maculatus aos genótipos, mantendo-se a resistência estável através das gera es.
Insecticidal Activity of Alstonia boonei De Wild Powder against Cowpea Bruchid, Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab.) [Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae] in stored Cowpea Seeds  [cached]

Abstract: The bioactivity of Alstonia boonei De Wild (Apocyanaceae) against Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in stored cowpea seeds was evaluated in the laboratory by admixing leaf, stem bark and root powders of A. boonei with cowpea seeds at ambient temperature of 28+20C and 70+5% relative humidity. The powders were incorporated into 20g of cowpea seeds, Vigna unguiculata at 0.0% (control) 2.5%, 5.0%, 12.5% and 25.0% (w/w) concentration. The ability of the plant powders to protect cowpea seeds was assessed in terms of mortality rates after 24 - 96 hours post treatment, oviposition and adult emergence, percentage weight loss and damage after the first filial generation (F1). All the tested plant part powders significantly (P<0.05) reduce the longevity of adult C. maculatus on treated cowpea seeds. From the study, the plant powders could be ranked in order of effectiveness thus; stem bark > leaf > root. Alstonia boonei can be used as biopesticide against C. maculatus and its incorporation into traditional storage pest management is strongly recommended.

Abstract: Objetivou-se com esse trabalho avaliar a resistência de nove genótipos de feij o-caupi, a Callosobruchus maculatus. O experimento foi conduzido no Laboratório de Entomologia em condi es ambiente (T = 28 ± 5 oC e UR = 63 ± 10%) , do Departamento de Fitotecnia - CCA/UFRR, durante os meses de mar o a agosto de 2008. Os genótipos foram procedentes do Banco de Germoplasma da Embrapa-RR: BRS Amapá, BRS Novaera, BRS17-Gurguéia, BRS Mazag o, BRS Milênio, BRS Paragua ú, BRS Patativa, BRS Guariba e BRS Maratao . Utilizaram-se quatro repeti es de 100 g de sementes de cada genótipo que foram infestados por 20 insetos adultos coletados ao acaso da cria o em laboratório, por sete dias. Após o período de confinamento retirou-se os insetos e sub-amostrou-se 10 g de sementes da 100 g infestadas inicialmente. As variáveis avaliadas foram: o número de ovos viáveis, inviáveis, dura o da fase imatura (dias), número insetos emergidos, percentagemde inseto emergido (%), massa seca consumida e a massa seca consumidas/insetos. Conclui-se que: BRS Patativa foi o menos preferido para oviposi o por C. maculatus, apresentando, portanto, resistência do tipo n o-preferência para oviposi o a referida espécie; BRS Patativa e BRS Paraga ú s o portadores de resistência do tipo antibiose. Ademais, nenhum dos genótipos testados neste experimento apresentou resistência do tipo n o-preferência para alimenta o de C. maculatus. = The objective of this research was to evaluate the resistance of nine cowpea genotypes to Callosobruchus maculatus.The experiment was done in environmental conditions of the Entomology Laboratory (T = 28 ± 5 oC and UR = 63 ± 10%), of the Plant Science Department - CCA/UFRR, during the months of March to August, 2008. The genotypes came from the Seed bank of Embrapa-RR: Amapá, BRS-Novaera, BR17-Gurguéia, BRS-Mazag o, BRS-Milênio, BRS-Paragua u, BRSPatativa,BRS-Guariba and BRS-Maratao . Four replications were used, each one had 100g of seeds of each genotype which were infested with 20 adult insects randomized collected in seven days during the laboratory creation. After the days of feedlot the insects were removed and 10 g of seed subsampled from the 100 g previuosly infested. The variables evaluated were: the number of viable and, unviable eggs, immature phase duration (days), number of emerged insects, emerged insect percentage, dry matter consumed and the dry matter consumed/insects. Abstract: a comparative analysis was carried out based on the detailed morphology of adults of seven genera: caryedes hummel, 1827, ctenocolum kingsolver & whitehead, 1974, gibbobruchus pic, 1913, meibomeus bridwell, 1946, merobruchus bridwell, 1946, penthobruchus kingsolver, 1973, and pygiopachymerus pic, 1911, joined in the merobruchus group. this group is included in acanthoscelidina bridwell, the largest subtribe of bruchinae, and with imprecise limits. this study describes new characters, suggests a new hypothesis for the relationships among the genera, proposes diagnoses of the group and its genera, and provides a dichotomous key. it was also possible to record caryedes godmani (sharp, 1885) and caryedes longifrons (sharp, 1885) for the first time from brazil and dioclea virgata (rich.) amshoff (papilionoideae) as a new host plant for c. godmani.
Potency of Some Spices Against Callosobruchus chinensis Linnaeus  [PDF]

Abstract: The experiment was conducted to investigate the insecticidal potency of some spices against pulse beetle (Callosobruchus chinensis) on stored chickpea with six treatments. The data were recorded on days to 100% mortality, days to adult emerged, number of adults emerged and chickpea weight loss (%). Minimum number of days to 100% mortality was observed in cloves and black pepper treated pulse beetles, while maximum number was recorded in control treatments. Equal number of days to adult emerged was counted in all the treatments including control. Minimum number of adults emerged was counted in cloves and black peppers treated pulse beetles. However, maximum number was counted in control treatments. Lower weight loss percent was also calculated in cloves and black peppers treated pulse beetles as compared to other treatments. However, higher weight loss percent was calculated in control treatment.

Abstract: A seed beetle Bruchidius siliquastri DELOBEL, 2007 (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) was reared from ripe pods of Cercis siliquastrum (Fabaceae) in Bulgaria and this is the first record of the species to the Bulgarian fauna. New host plants of the bruchid species were established on the basis of material collected in Hungary: Cercis occidentalis, Cercis chinensis and Cercis griffithii. A rich hymenopteran complex associated with the seed beetle was reared and comments on it are presented.
