EFFECT OF DIFFERENT INSECTICIDES UPON GERMINATION AND VIGOR OF RICE SEEDS EFEITO DE DIFERENTES INSETICIDAS NA GERMINA O E NO VIGOR DE SEMENTES DE ARROZ  [cached]

Abstract: A laboratory test was conducted, aiming to verify the effect of different insecticides upon germinating power and vigor of rice seeds, cultivars IAC - 25 and Rio-Paranaíba, stored at 0, 7,15, 30, 60 and 90 days, after treatments. Germination tests were settled according routine analysis and evaluated after seven days by counting number of normal and abnormal plantules and dead seeds. For vigor test, the seeds were evaluated in each period at third day, using plantules growing method. All tested products with both cultivars revealed a good germination rate at storage different periods, excepting fenitrothion that affected significantly germination, determining an average drop of 22.46% and 32.84%, relative to testimony, for cultivars IAC-25 and Rio-Paranaíba, respectively. Fenitrothion followed by benfurocarbe were the products which presented major inhibition to plantules vigor. Foi conduzido um experimento em laboratório, visando a verificar o efeito de diferentes inseticidas sobre o poder germinativo e vigor de sementes de arroz das cultivares IAC 25 e Rio-Paranaíba, armazenadas aos 0, 7, 15, 30, 60 e 90 dias, após os tratamentos. Os testes de germina o foram instalados conforme análise de rotina e avaliados após 7 dias, contando-se o número de plantulas normais, anormais e sementes monas. Para o teste de vigor, as sementes foram avaliadas em cada época, no terceiro dia, utilizando-se o método de crescimento das plantulas. Todos os produtos testados nas duas cultivares, proporcionaram um bom índice de germina o nas várias épocas de armazenamento, com exce o do fenitrothion que afetou significativamente a germina o, causando em média uma queda de 22,46 e 32,84% em rela o à testemunha, respectivamente, para as cultivares IAC-25 e Rio-Paranaíba. O fenitrothion seguido do benfurocarbe foram os produtos que mais afetaram o vigor das plantulas.

Abstract: O presente trabalho teve por objetivo analisar a metodologia do teste de envelhecimento acelerado, bem como verificar a possibilidade do uso de Cloreto de Sódio (NaCl) como op o para controle da absor o de água pelas sementes durante a realiza o do teste. Foram utilizados cinco lotes de sementes, submetidos aos testes de germina o (G), emergência de plantulas (EP), índice de velocidade de emergência (IVE) e envelhecimento acelerado (EA), empregando-se os períodos de exposi o de 24, 48, 72, 96 e 120h, com e sem solu o salina (NaCl). A utiliza o de solu o n o saturada e saturada de NaCl diminui a absor o de água pelas sementes de arroz durante o teste de envelhecimento acelerado, acarretando uma menor taxa de deteriora o e resultados menos drásticos e mais uniformes. As op es 48h com solu o n o saturada (SNS) e 24h com solu o saturada de NaCl (SSS) devem ser utilizadas porque promovem uma melhor estratifica o dos lotes de sementes de arroz. O EA é considerado uma ótima op o como teste de vigor quando comparado a EP e IVE, pelo menor tempo de aquisi o e eficiência dos resultados. The objectives of this study were to examine the methodology of the accelerated aging test and verify the possibility of using NaCl as an option for control of water uptake by seeds during the test. Five lots of seed were tested for germination (G), seedling emergence (SE) , index of emergence speed (IES) and accelerated aging (AA). The periods of exposure used were 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120h, with and without saline solution (NaCl). The use of unsaturated and saturated solution of NaCl decreased water uptake by rice seeds during accelerated aging. The use of these solutions decreased deterioration rate and the results were less drastic and more uniform. The periods of exposure of 48h with unsaturated solution and 24 with saturated NaCl solution must be used because they promote a better stratification of seed lots of rice. Accelerated aging is considered an excellent option as a vigor test when compared to seedling emergence and index of emergence speed because the shortest time of acquisition and efficient results.

Abstract: Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de caracterizar e classificar a qualidade física, fisiológica e sanitária das sementes de arroz irrigado utilizadas por produtores de Santa Maria/RS, Brasil. Foram coletadas 117 amostras de sementes de produtores da regi o, no ano agrícola de 1997/98, nas quais se determinaram umidade, presen a de gr os de arroz vermelho, presen a de fungos e nematóides, germina o e vigor. As sementes apresentaram qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de média a boa, contendo, no entanto, altos níveis de arroz vermelho, o que reduz a qualidade dos lotes e constitui-se no principal fator restritivo à obten o de maiores rendimentos.

Abstract: The present work had as objective to verify the effect of treatment with fungicide on the germination and vigor of four lots of clove basil seeds, submitted to the traditional aging and with saturated salt solution, for periods of 36, 48, 60 and 72 hours, at 42oC. After these periods, the seeds were evaluated by the germination test, using the first count of the number of normal seedlings as vigor indicative. The vigor and the germination of the seeds decreased as increased the time of aging. In the use of saturated salt solution, the seeds water content was lower and more uniform. The fungicide treatment increased the percentage average of germination, without provoking significant modifications in the contrasts among the lots. The periods of 36 and 48 hours were efficient in evaluating of the physiologic quality of the clove basil seeds. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo verificar o efeito do período de exposi o, tipos de solu o e tratamento com fungicida sobre a germina o e o vigor de quatro lotes de sementes de alfavaca-cravo, submetidas ao teste de envelhecimento acelerado tradicional e com uso de solu o saturada de NaCl, por períodos de 36, 48, 60 e 72 horas na temperatura de 42oC. Após estes períodos, as sementes foram avaliadas pelo teste de germina o, utilizando-se a primeira contagem do teste de germina o como indicativo de vigor. Tanto o vigor quanto a germina o das sementes analisadas, diminuíram conforme se aumentou o tempo de envelhecimento. Na utiliza o de solu o salina, o teor e a variabilidade de água das sementes foram menores. O tratamento fungicida aumentou a média percentual de germina o, mas n o provocou modifica es acentuadas nos contrastes entre os lotes. Os períodos de 36 e 48 horas foram eficientes na avalia o da qualidade fisiológica das sementes de alfavaca-cravo.

Abstract: the bauhinia divaricata is an arboreal species with high ornamental and economical value and distributed throughout brazil. it is propagated by seeds, from which germination needs more investigation. so, this study was carried out at the seed analysis laboratory pertaining to cca-ufpb - areia, in bod-type chambers with 8h photoperiod in order to determine the most adequate substratum and temperature for evaluating the germination and vigor of the bauhinia divaricata seeds. the entirely randomized experimental design in the factorial scheme 3 x 5 was used. the factors were constituted by constant temperatures of 25 and 30°c and alternate 20-30°c, as well as substrata between paper, on paper, paper roll, among sand and among vermiculite, in four replicates of 25 seeds. the following variables were analyzed: percent germination, first counting, germination index and dry matter of the plantlets. the 25°c temperature and the substrata between paper, on paper and paper roll showed to be adequate to the test for germination and vigor of the bauhinia divaricata seeds. the lowest germination percentages and the seed vigor levels occurred in the sand substratum at three temperatures (20-30, 25 and 30°c).

Abstract: this study was conducted with the objective of determination of most adequate substrate, temperature and forms of hydration applied in germination and vigor tests of pelleted seeds of tomato. the experiment was carried out at the seed analysis laboratory of the department of agronomy of the federal university of paraíba, brazil. the experimental design adopted was a completely randomized and the treatments were distributed in a 3 x 4 x 2 factorial scheme, the factors studied were temperature (25, 30 oc constant and 20-30 oc alternate), substrates (on and between paper sheets sand and vermiculite) and the hydration for which distilled water and potassium nitrate were used. the effects were evaluated considering percentage of germination, first counting, germination speed and weight of dry matter of seedlings. the substrates sand and vermiculite moistened with distilled water at constant temperatures of 25 or 30 oc were the most efficient for germination and vigor test of pelleted seeds of tomatoes. the alternated temperatures 20-30 oc and substrates on paper and between paper sheets were not found to be adequate for evaluation of pelleted seeds of tomato.

Abstract: This study was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Analysis of CCA - UFES in Alegre - ES, to evaluate the seed germination and vigor of broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italic) from the system organic and conventional production and treated with sodium chloride. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial 2 x 6 (two lots x six concentrations), with four replications. The seeds were treated with saline concentrations of 0.0, -0.4, -0.8, -1.2, -1.6 and 2.0 MPa, applied by immersion seeds for 15 minutes. Were evaluated: germination, germination speed index and root length of shoots, fresh and dry weight of seedlings. Concentrations of NaCl with values less than -08 MPa are toxic to broccoli seeds; There are reduction in germination and growth of seedlings of broccoli with increasing salinity; broccoli seeds of conventional origin have a higher resistance to salinity than broccoli seeds of organic origin.O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes do CCA-UFES, em Alegre-ES, com objetivo de avaliar a germina o e o vigor de sementes de brócolos (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica) oriundas do sistema de produ o organica e convencional e tratadas com cloreto de sódio. O delineamento estatístico utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, num fatorial 2 x 6 (dois lotes x seis concentra es), com quatro repeti es. As sementes foram tratadas com concentra es salina de 0,0; -0,4; -0,8; -1,2; -1,6 e -2,0 MPa, aplicadas por imers o por 15 minutos. Abstract: Este trabalho foi conduzido no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes da Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Oeste Paulista (UNOESTE), Presidente Prudente - SP, com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos causados pelo alagamento na germina o e no vigor de sementes de feij o. As sementes foram submetidas aos tratamentos de alagamento por períodos de 0, 8, 16, 24, 32, 40 e 48 horas a 25oC. Durante os tratamentos foram realizadas as avalia es de grau de umidade inicial e final, e após os mesmos, teste de germina o e avalia o do comprimento de hipocótilo e de raiz, peso seco da parte aérea e raiz. Os resultados mostraram que a germina o e o vigor das sementes decresceram com o alagamento, havendo decréscimo médio de 55 pontos percentuais na germina o, com 8 horas de alagamento. Ocorreu diferencia o de lotes através da germina o com sementes que passaram por períodos de alagamento iguais ou superiores a 8 horas. O número de sementes mortas e a inibi o ao desenvolvimento de raiz e hipocótilo foram crescentes com o aumento do período de submers o. Desta forma, concluiu-se que o alagamento, por 8 horas, pode causar prejuízos irreversíveis ao estabelecimento da cultura do feijoeiro, bem como, se empregado em laboratório, pode ser um bom indicativo para diferencia o de níveis de qualidade fisiológica em sementes de feij o. This work study was carried out to evaluate the effects of different flooding periods during germination and in the bean seeds vigor at UNOESTE Seed Analysis Laboratory. Seeds were submitted to flooding periods of 0, 8, 16, 24, 32, 40 and 48h at 25oC. Moisture content was taken before and after flooding periods. The germination test and physiological parameters, such as hypocotyl and root length and their dry weights, were obtained after periods of flooding. Results showed that germination and vigor decreased subsequently to flooding, germination decreased 55 percentage points after 8h of seed submersion. There were differentiation differences between among seed lots in germination tests after flooding periods equal to, or higher than 8h. Dead seed number and inhibition in hypocotyl and root development, shown in this work study, increased with the submersion time. In conclusion, eight hours of flooding cause irreversible damage to bean culture establishment, and the same periods of submersion, in the laboratory, could be a very good indicative to differentiate seed physiological quality.

Abstract: this research was carried out to evaluate the germination and vigor of annatto seeds (bixa orellana l.) during maturation, collecting samples 70, 77, and 84 days after anthesis (daa). the research consisted of two phases: first, seed samples of each harvest were submitted to different treatments: (i) mechanical scarification; (ii) thermotherapy (70oc in water bath) for 1, 2, and 3 min; (iii) pre-chilling at 3oc during seven days, using distilled water or kno3 solution to moist the paper towel, and untreated intact seeds (control). in the second phase, seed samples (70, 77, and 84 daa) were submitted to accelerated aging (aa) (42oc, 100% relative humidity) for 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, and 96 hours. in both phases, seeds were sub sampled for evaluation. the germination of intact seeds collected 70, 77, and 84 daa was 51, 53, and 16%, respectively, and thermotherapy was the only treatment that significantly altered it. although hindering the germination of seeds collected 70 daa, thermotherapy for 1 and 3 minutes enhanced germination in seeds collected 84 daa (62 and 55%, respectively). in intact seeds, the germination rate (gr) of seeds collected 84 daa (0.51) was significantly lower than in seeds collected 70 (1.90) and 77 daa (2.32). however, thermotherapy significantly increased gr for seeds collected at 84 daa (1.65, 3.03, 1.83, respectively for 1, 3, and 5 minutes of immersion), which suggests the occurrence of dormancy after the alleged physiological maturation point (84 daa). for seeds collected 70 daa, accelerated aging (aa) up to 96 hours did not interfered in germination. for seeds collected 77 and 84 daa, germination decreased as exposure time to aa increased. seeds collected 70 daa had the highest proportion of regular seedlings.

Abstract: O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do condicionamento osmótico na qualidade fi siológica de sementes de algod o herbáceo. Os ensaios foram realizados no Laboratório de Fitotecnia da Universidade Politécnica de Madrid, Espanha, em 2006. Foram realizados dois ensaios: sementes submetidas às solu esosmóticas de PEG 6000 (-0,25 MPa) e de nitrato de potássio (0,3 M) nos sete tempos de condicionamento osmótico (0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 e 96 h) à temperatura de 20 oC. As variáveis analisadas foram porcentagem de germina o e comprimento de plantulas. As sementes foram tratadas com hipoclorito de sódio (3%) e captan 50 antes de serem postas para germinar em camara de germina o com temperatura de 25 oC. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente ao acaso, em esquema fatorial com quatro repeti es. As solu es osmóticas de PEG e nitrato de potássio n o foram favoráveis à germina o das sementes, todavia o vigor das sementes foi incrementado por ambas as solu es osmóticas em algumas condi es estudadas. = The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the osmotic conditioning on the physiological quality of seeds of herbaceous cotton. The assays were realized in the Laboratory of Phytotech of the Polytechnical University of Madrid, Spain, in 2006. Two assays were done: one with seeds submitted to osmotic solutions of PEG 6000 (-0,25 MPa) and the other to potassium nitrate (0,3 M) during seven periods of osmotic conditioning (0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 and 96 h ) at a temperature of 20 oC. The analyzed variables were calculated as percentage of the germination and length of seedlings. The seeds were pre-treated with Sodium hypochlorite (3%) and 50 Captan before being placed to germinate in germination chambers at a temperature of 25 oC. The adopted experimental delineation was arranged as completely randomized with four replications, having treatments in the factorial project. The osmotics solutions of PEG and potassium nitrate were not favorable to the germination of the seeds, however the vigor of the seeds was developed by both the osmotics solutions in some conditions evaluated.
