Dietrich Benner,Dariusz St?pkowski
Topologik : Rivista Internazionale di Scienze Filosofiche, Pedagogiche e Sociali , 2012,
Abstract: - On theoretical and social constitution of modern education. Reflections with reference to Jan Amos Comenius and Jean-Jacques Rousseau - This article draws on Comenius and Rousseau to examine the theoretical and social constitution of education. Specifically, we analyze the tensions between the Comenius' pansophy and his theory of education in the Early Mod-ern Age as well as between Rousseau's theory of common will and his theory of negative education. The article demonstrates that while both Comenius and Rousseau are important for contemporary discussions of the structure of pedagogical action, neither Comenius' pansophy nor Rousseau's idea of common will are sufficient to ground these discussions.
Jan Amos Comenius: Novissima Linguarum Methodus.

Abstract: The present article aims to recover the concept of ‘nature” elaborated by Comenius, based on two of his most important books, Didatica Magna (1638) and Orbis Sensualium Pictus (1658). Moreover, it intends to discover how Comenius interferes in the intellectual debates of his time, remaining connected to the principles of rigidity, clarity and certainty; which are typical of Modernity.

MAKING THE “ROUND OF KNOWLEDGE” IN BACON’S WAKE: NAUDé, COMENIUS, AND BROWNE
Christopher D. JOHNSON
Societate ?i Politic? , 2011,
Abstract: This paper examines how three of FrancisBacon’s readers, Gabriel Naudé, Jan Amos Comenius, and ThomasBrowne, rethink the humanist library, the genre of the silva, and Bacon’s callfor a new kind of encyclopedism. Naudé adumbrates the organization andcontents of the ideal library so that judicious readers may integrate the oldand new learning. In calling for a single pansophist book, Comenius heraldsBacon’s inductive method and yet would restore metaphysics to theencyclopedia. And after his own efforts in Baconian encyclopedism in thePseudodoxia Epidemica, Thomas Browne writes a catalogue of books andartifacts that is at once an elegy to the republic of letters and a ludic plea toinclude admiratio in “the round of knowledge.” This diverse receptionhistory emblemizes the rich, often contradictory potential of Bacon’sencyclopedic vision.

Lesson in humanity: Anthropological inspirations from the work of Comenius  [PDF]
Jan Hábl
Pedagogicka Orientace , 2010,
Abstract: This study deals with the issue of pedagogical humanization. The author identifies and analyses the causes of modern crisis of humanity as well as its pedagogical formation, which is based on anthropological reductionism and post-enlightenment restriction of the transcendental dimension of humanity. As an alternative to the problematic modern anthropology, the study presents Comenius’s view of humanity, which provides stimulating material for the humanisation efforts in contemporary pedagogy.
