Humanismo y violencia
Franz J. Hinkelammert

Abstract: The deduced amino acid sequence of urease-α subunits of operons-1 and -2 exhibited substantial identity with the structural ureases of alpha- and beta-proteobacteria, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and higher plants. Four ure deficient strains were generated by deleting one or more of the genes encoding urease subunits of B. suis strain 1330 by allelic exchange: strain 1330Δure1K (generated by deleting ureD and ureA in ure1 operon), strain 1330Δure2K (ureB and ureC in ure2 operon), strain 1330Δure2C (ureA, ureB, and ureC in ure2 operon), and strain 1330Δure1KΔure2C (ureD and ureA in ure1 operon and ureA, ureB, and ureC in ure2 operon). When grown in urease test broth, strains 1330, 1330Δure2K and 1330Δure2C displayed maximal urease enzyme activity within 24 hours, whereas, strains 1330Δure1K and 1330Δure1KΔure2C exhibited zero urease activity even 96 h after inoculation. Strains 1330Δure1K and 1330Δure1KΔure2C exhibited slower growth rates in tryptic soy broth relative to the wild type strain 1330. When the BALB/c mice were infected intraperitoneally with the strains, six weeks after inoculation, the splenic recovery of the ure deficient strains did not differ from the wild type. In contrast, when the mice were inoculated by gavage, one week after inoculation, strain 1330Δure1KΔure2C was cleared from livers and spleens while the wild type strain 1330 was still present. All B. suis strains were killed when they were incubated in-vitro at pH 2.0. When the strains were incubated at pH 2.0 supplemented with 10 mM urea, strain 1330Δure1K was completely killed, strain 1330Δure2C was partially killed, but strains 1330 and 1330Δure2K were not killed. These findings suggest that the ure1 operon is necessary for optimal growth in culture, urease activity, resistance against low-pH killing, and in vivo persistence of B. suis when inoculated by gavage. The ure2 operon apparently enhances the resistance to low-pH killing in-vitro.A number of environmentally and

Otro humanismo por articular  [cached]
Enrique Díaz álvarez
Andamios , 2011,
Racionalidad, humanismo y modernidad  [PDF]

"Rationality, humanism and modernity" Modern philosophy has been, over all. a project to conceive itself as "scientific ". simultaneously it tries to be "natural philosophy" and "natural science ". The ideal of modern philosophy is the hobesian ideal of physicality, the scientificist prejudice of transforming man into body only. But the danger is present within scientificism. Nature, it seems, is there to be dominated, and these involves partialization, taming and unification in the manipulation, in the turning of means into ends.
The politics of hybridity and mestizaje in U.S. Latino popular music  [cached]
Pacini Hernández, Deborah
Arbor : Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura , 2011, DOI: 10.3989/arbor.2011.751n5009
Abstract: Theories of mestizaje have long been used to analyze and interpret the hybridity of Latin American cultures and identities, but mestizaje –as well as its critiques– do not map neatly onto the social, cultural and political landscape in which U.S. Latino communities and their musical productions are embedded. In addressing the deep fault lines at the intersections of Latin American concepts of mestizaje and the United States’ bipolar concepts of race and racial identity, this essay sheds light on the very concrete and material impacts these conceptual descrepancies have had on U.S. Latino communities and their musical practices.

Abstract: The Entamoeba histolytica transcription factor Upstream Regulatory Element 3-Binding Protein (URE3-BP) is a calcium-responsive regulator of two E. histolytica virulence genes, hgl5 and fdx1. URE3-BP was previously identified by a yeast one-hybrid screen of E. histolytica proteins capable of binding to the sequence TATTCTATT (Upstream Regulatory Element 3 (URE3)) in the promoter regions of hgl5 and fdx1. In this work, precise definition of the consensus URE3 element was performed by electrophoretic mobility shift assays (EMSA) using base-substituted oligonucleotides, and the consensus motif validated using episomal reporter constructs. Transcriptome profiling of a strain induced to produce a dominant-positive URE3-BP was then used to identify additional genes regulated by URE3-BP. Fifty modulated transcripts were identified, and of these the EMSA defined motif T[atg]T[tc][cg]T[at][tgc][tg] was found in over half of the promoters (54% p<0.0001). Fifteen of the URE3-BP regulated genes were potential membrane proteins, suggesting that one function of URE3-BP is to remodel the surface of E. histolytica in response to a calcium signal. Induction of URE3-BP leads to an increase in tranwell migration, suggesting a possible role in the regulation of cellular motility.

Abstract: Sigmund Freud’s contribution to the field of psychology was significant, not because it was flawless but because it challenged conventional views of the time. In the modern era, an individual’s view of the world is constantly being challenged due, in large part, to insurmountable information made available for public consumption. It’s an unrelenting bombardment of input that has made prominent the rift between facts and beliefs. This inquisitive article is an exploration of that conflict. By applying Freudian psychology to one of the most confrontational and debatable topics of the 21st century—the environment—Fig: ure It Out reviews our environmental problems from one psychological perspective. Do we define truths by facts or by the way in which we cope with new information? It’s an example of human behaviour within a changing world.

Guillermo Zerme?o Padilla
Memoria y Sociedad , 2008,
Abstract: This is an essay of intellectual and conceptual history. It’s constructed in reverse: from the present to the past. The objective is to demonstrate the socio-political origin of some analytic categories employed by the Social Sciences and Humanities. In the evolution and transformation of the term mestizo to more generic use of the term mestizaje, five overlapping semantic layers can be observed. The article shows the places in which the term mestizaje, a modern concept, progressively changed beginning at the end of the 19th century to a key referential term of national identity in Mexico. The diffusion and consolidation of the notion mestizaje occurs paradoxically in a moment (during the first half of the 20th century) when humanity began to be thought of in global or post-national terms. From then on the use of the term pretends to designate not only exclusively the essence of the “Mexicanidad” but also represents Latin American identity.//Este es un ensayo de historia conceptual e intelectual.
