Entre a academia e o activismo: Sociologia, estudos queer e movimento LGBT em Portugal Between Academia and Activism: Sociology, queer studies and the LGBT movement in Portugal Entre l’Académie et l’activisme : sociologie, études queer et le mouvement LGBT au Portugal
Ana Cristina Santos
This paper focuses on the diverse and complementary character of the relation between academia and social movements, which moulds a social-analytic construct whose implications for queer studies remain largely untheorized. I believe that such theorization can lead to a new application of action research, now centred on the hyphens that allow us to dialectically articulate the knowledges constructed in the daily contexts of academia and of LGBT activism. In effect, if academia resists the temptation of paternalism, futurism and cannibalization, and social movements resist accommodation, embourgeoisement and capitulation, then scholarship and activism, by cooperating horizontally, can become cornerstones of this construct. Anchored on reciprocal and empowering recognitions, in which none of these forms of knowledge is unique or dominant, this construct can lead to a new field of knowledge which I call public queer studies.
Presenting queer Schur superalgebras  [PDF]
Jie Du,Jinkui Wan
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: Associated to the two types of finite dimensional simple superalgebras, there are the general linear Lie superalgebra and the queer Lie superalgebra. The universal enveloping algebras of these Lie superalgebras act on the tensor spaces of the natural representations and, thus, define certain finite dimensional quotients, the Schur superalgebras and the queer Schur superalgebra. In this paper, we introduce the quantum analogue of the queer Schur superalgebra and investigate the presentation problem for both the queer Schur superalgebra and its quantum analogue.
Kontextualisierung von Queer Theory Contextualizing Queer Theory  [cached]
Anna Voigt
querelles-net , 2008,
Christine M. Klapeer’s introductory volume demonstrates the manner in which ‘queer’ grew out of various political and theoretical contexts to become a term with special political and theoretical content. She focuses primarily on a critical contextualization of “queer theory.” The author begins by approaching the Gay Liberation Movement and then distinguishes Queer Theory from poststructuralism, from feminist theories, and from Lesbian and Gay Studies. She continues on to illuminate the key aspects of queer thought and concludes by sketching the development in Austria in terms of politics and the law, the history of movements, and within the landscape of knowledge.
Queer Theory and the Study of Religion  [PDF]
Claudia Schippert
REVER : Revista de Estudos da Religi?o , 2005,
Abstract: Queer Theory has become an important theoretical approach that focuses on the centrality of sexuality in modern conceptions of the self. This article reviews central ideas of queer theoretical work, notes areas in religious studies where they have been and continue to be explored, and summarizes some of the theory's promises and points of conflict.
Queer is the New Pink: How Queer Jews Moved to the Forefront of Jewish Culture  [cached]
David Shneer
Journal of Men, Masculinities and Spirituality , 2007,
Abstract: While queers and Jews have always been part of the cultural landscape, queer Jews have tended to be rather ambivalent about being both queer and Jewish. However, in recent years this connection is being promoted in a more proactive fashion. This paper highlights three examples of queer Jews whose cultural performances rely on being both queer and Jewish, suggesting queer Jews are playing an increasingly significant role in Jewish culture.
Notas sobre representa??o do corpo e cultura médica no Portugal moderno
Bellini, Lígia;
Caderno CRH , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-49792011000100007
Abstract: this article discusses presuppositions and approaches for a study on representations of the body in early modern portugal. it focuses on medicine, but it also deals with other scholarly domains such as philosophy and literature. it addresses two related questions: the more general question of the links between representations of the body, ideas and historical processes in their cultural context; and the more particular problem of the way these representations express concepts and modes of thought in the medical milieu. this proposal is based on the premise that an enquiry into images used by thinkers illuminates the shaded spectrum of intellectual influences among them.
Queer – Genealogie eines problematischen Begriffs Queer—Genealogy of a troublemaking term  [cached]
Birgit Müller
querelles-net , 2002,
Jagoses’s introduction to queer theory presents primarily a genealogy of the term ‘queer’. Ranging from the historical context of homophile movements and gay-liberation movements to lesbian feminism in the United States Jagose investigates the conditions which have produced Queer Theory and traces the continuities and discontinuities of the semiotic history of the term ‘queer’. She discusses the poststructural roots of queer theory and discusses the emancipatory potential of its theoretical and political aspects. An extensive epilogue with notes on the reception of Queer Theory in the FRG has been added to the German edition.

Mendes, Felismina Rosa Parreira;Mantovani, Maria de Fátima;
Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672010000200007
Abstract: this research study, with a qualitative approach was carried out aiming to identify nurses' representation on current professional dynamics, evolutionary landmarks and the future outlook for portuguese nursing with twenty nurses from évora, portugal, in april / may of 2009, through narrative testimony. qualification obtained along the years as well as the nurses' association were mentioned as the central representative pillars in order to build up professional identity. autonomy is part of daily caring routine, however hegemonic power issues in the health team still ground nurses' action and underpin their self and peer professional and social recognition. future outlook addresses issues such as employment, career uncovering hope for some and uncertainty for others.

From here to queer? Pitfalls and possibilities
Clarke,Victoria; Peel,Elizabeth;
Ex aequo , 2009,
Abstract: in this article we consider the relationship between lesbian and gay psychology, latterly known as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (lgbtq) psychology and queer theory. we signal some ways that the field could become more intersectional by, for example, taking gender seriously, before turning our attention to queer theory. we explore some of the critiques of incorporating queer theory more fully into the field. in conclusion, we suggest that a tentative queering of lgbtq psychology will provide fruitful possibilities for the future of the field.
