Abstract: solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura (tfsp) is an uncommon and mostly benign neoplasm. it grows slowly and presents with scant symptoms. recurrence after surgical excision has been described. the aim of this report is to show our experience in managing this disease. clinical as well as radiological, surgical, histopathological and follow-up data were analyzed in a clinical series. forty one cases of tfsp that underwent surgery at our institution between 1991 and 2004 were retrospectively analyzed; 27 were females and 14 males with a median age of 60.4 years old; 24.4% of the cases were asymptomatic. all tumors were surgically excised, in average they weighed 945 g and 36.5% of the lesions showed a pedicle. most of the lesions were originated in the visceral pleura. surgical morbidity was 12.1% and no mortality was recorded. three tumor recurred. tfsp is usually a benign neoplasm but it can recur. complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice of primary and recurrent tumors

Abstract: objectives: we report one case of solitary fibrous tumor of the tunica vaginalis, a benign paratesticular lesion. methods: surgical exploration with intraoperative biopsy and excision of the lesion was undertaken, leaving the testicle and epididymis undamaged. results: intraoperative biopsy revealed the presence of fibrous tissue without malignant cellularity. pathological diagnosis on the surgical specimen was solitary fibrous tumor of the tunica vaginalis. the patient remains asymptomatic and disease-free one year after treatment. conclusions: almost all testicular masses are malignant, but in order to avoid a non-indicated orchyectomy, one should be cautious with the finding of a paratesticular lesion of probable benign nature on ultrasound or during surgery.

El tratamiento es la resección quirúrgica completa y las recidivas deben ser resecadas nuevamente Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura (TFSP) is an uncommon and mostly benign neoplasm. We report 3 patients with fibrous solitary tumor of meningeal location where we described the histological study, as well as evolution after the surgical treatment. The described patients presented ages of 37, 52 and 65 years, after the resection has not appeared an objective sign of recurrence in any case after 4, 6 and 7 years of follow-up respectively. Checking the literature the tumor is indistinguishable clinical and radiolocally of the typical meningioma, doing necessary the use of inmunohistochemistry to do the differential diagnosis, where positiveness for CD34 and the negativeness for EMA define the fibrous solitary tumor. It is about a benign tumor, where total removing is the principal factor in prognosis, nevertheless there are cases of local recurrences and long-distance metastasis. We can find all these characteristics in the showed cases of the present article, having the uncertainty of its local or systemic relapse ability in the future.

Abstract: doege-potter syndrome is characterized for hypoglycemia associated with solitary pleural fibrous tumors. we report a 38-year-old woman with a history of weight loss, malaise and edema. after an episode of symptomatic hypoglycemia, she was admitted to the hospital, where she had new episodes of hypoglycemia. a chest x ray and scan showed a right pleural tumor that was surgically excised. after surgery the episodes of hypoglycemia subsided. the pathological study of the tumor revealed a solitary fibrous pleural tumor. after 15 months of follow up, the patient is symptom free and without evidence of tumor relapse.

Abstract: solitary fibrous tumor is a well-recognized entity that most commonly involves the pleura; however, it has been recently described in other locations including the head and neck region, where it occurs as a slowly growing and well-circumscribed lesion. due to its low frequency it may be confused with other neoplasms, and for this reason microscopic, ultrastructural and immunohistochemical features are necessary to establish its diagnosis. prognosis of this tumor depends on its location and size. we present a 20-year-old woman with a well circumscribed, rapidly enlarging solitary fibrous tumor located in the parotid region, which protruded into the oral cavity, measured 10 x 8.5 x 5.5 cm and exhibited benign histological features and positive immunoreactivity to cd34.

Abstract: The solitary fibrous tumour is an uncommon neoplasm of mesenchymal origin. It occasionally develops in extra pleural locations, and is very infrequent in the pancreas. A 40-year-old woman had an unsuspected solitary fibrous tumour detected by chance in the body of the pancreas. Detection of the mass occurred with imaging studies. CT and MRI images showed the well-circumscribed benign lesion, with 3 cm on its greatest diameter. Treatment consisted of partial pancreatectomy, and her postoperative recovery was uneventful.
