Foucault, para além do poder disciplinar e do biopoder
Pogrebinschi, Thamy;
Lua Nova: Revista de Cultura e Política , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-64452004000300008
Abstract: the article analyses foucault's concept of power in its genealogical phase. it seeks to identify a specific and unnamed content, which differentiates itself from and by the well known categories of disciplinary power and biopower. its main argument relies on the possibility of identifying a foucauldian concept of power whose substance, once avoiding the ideas of repression and law, turns out to be productive, positive and, particularly, emancipatory.

Mana , 2002,

Mana , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132002000100006
Abstract: authors such as michel foucault and franz fanon have been influential figures both in studies of questions relating to strategies of power and representation in post-colonial contexts, and in the theoretical debates and analyses surrounding post-colonialism. in particular, the notions of bio-power and governmentality, originally found in foucault's thought, and fanon's reflections on the construction of forms of racial and colonial subjectification, have enabled a wide debate on the permanence and circulation of transnational racial rhetorics. through a reading of david scott's refashioning futures - criticism after postcoloniality (1999), and paul gilroy's against race - imagining political culture beyond the color line (2000), this essay seeks to identify the pertinence of combining both authors in studies that, in different ways, rely on the complex relationship between body and modernity and its implications in the present-day political and intellectual fields.
Biopoder y biocapital. El trabajador como moderno homo sacer  [cached]
Jaime Osorio
Argumentos (México, D.F.) , 2006,

Martins, Luiz Alberto Moreira;Peixoto Junior, Carlos Augusto;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822009000200002
Abstract: the objective of the present paper is to trace the elements, the questions and problematizations that rendered possible to foucault the elaboration of the concepts of biopower, biopolitics, governmentality and security. in this work we intend to investigate the genealogy of biopower and biopolitics, seeking to retrace in foucault's reflections around the medicalization of society and the extension of medical power - in the period 1974-1976, especially in the lectures at uerj - the questioning that prepared the emergence of the notions of biopower and biopolitics, as proposed by him in 1976. we can suppose that the articulation made by foucault between the medicalization of society and the government of life was one of the conditions that rendered possible the emergence of the hypothesis of biopower.
Michel Foucault's Conception of Ethics  [PDF]
Kamuran G?delek
Beytulhikme : An International Journal of Philosophy , 2011,
Abstract: Foucault’s conception of ethics is closely related to the political and intellectual structure, dominant in France in his youth. Foucault’s work can be regarded in general as a history of thought. Foucault aims at investigating our position today in the face of the historical foundations of contemporary culture. Hence, Foucault criticizes modern philosophy as well as the intellectual economical and political history of European culture. In the essence of Foucault’s criticism lies the denial of the idea of the constitutive subject, which has dominated the philosophy since Descartes. Foucault’s work is based on Nietzsche’s work which stands simply as a denial of Enlightment’s belief in the reason and in universal principles of humanistic values and rights. Foucault also, regards himself as a follower of Nietzsche and accepts his genealogical method, his conception of power and his views that ethical life is related with the aesthetics of self. We found, in Nietzsche, the foundations of Foucault’s subjectivity and its relation with language. Foucault, instead of developing a normative ethics, which could be true for anyone, is after developing a specific style which stems from individual freedom and intellectual development. For Foucault, ethics is investigating the relationship of the self with itself. Foucault regards ethics as a part of morality, which has the relationship of the self with itself as a subject matter. Foucault, in his conception of ethics does not deny the law of morality, that is, philosophy of morality, nor he denies the importance of the actual behavior of individuals. What Foucault particularly emphasizes is the style of self constituting of the individual as an ethical subject of his/her own actions, that is the style of developing his/her self. In this context, Foucault’s conception of ethics is based on the analysis of the relationship between self technologies and power forces.
