Abstract: Grundulus bogotensis Humboldt 1821 (Guapucha) and Eremophilus mutisii Humboldt 1805 (Capitán), from the Neusa reservoir (Cundinamarca-Colombia), were characterized on the basia cariology. The Guapucha, Grundulus bogotensis (Pisces: characidae), exhibited a basic number oC2n= 50 chromosomes. There is not chromosomic sexual dimorfísm. The Capitán, Eremophilus mutisii (Piscee: Tricomycteridae), on the other hand, has a basic chromosomes number of 2n = 54; and similarly does not show sexual dimorfism at the level chromosomes. No existe dimorfismo sexual cromosómico.

The aim of the present study was to explore the etiology of mortal ulcerations in "capitán de la sabana". Fishes were captured from Fúquene Lake, Cundinamarca department, Colombia (05°28'N 73°44'W) and stocked in 100 L glass tanks in captivity. Ten fishes with skin ulcers were kept in an independent tank and changes in morphology, bacterial flora and organization of tissues were evaluated by means of bacteriology and histology techniques during eight days. Cultures for bacteria were done from the skin ulcers and from the tank water, and an antibiogram was carried out. The analysis showed the presence of common bacteria in the water flora and ulcers: Pseudomona spp. and Escherichia coli, resistant to the amoxicilin and sensitive to the ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, furazolidon and tetraciclin. The histology demonstratednecrosis of the epidermis and underlaying tissues with inflammatory cells, and gill hyperplasia. Pathological signs are associated with stress factors. It is suggested that aditional studies should be performed on the etiology of the disease and to develop prophylactic activities in order to avoid losses of the fish in captivity which exceed 50% of the fish stock.

Abstract: The principal aim of this investigation was to study the anual morpho-histological changes in the ovary of the fish capitan, Eremophilus mutisii, in the Rio Bogota basin in Colombia, with regard to the reproductive cycle, size of the mature fishes and seasonal changes in the environment. The fibs material was collected monthly. The gonads were fixed in Bouin's fixative. Subsequently they were washed several times in 70% ethanol. Transversal sections of about 5 cm in length, each of which produced 10 slides with 10 or so sections per slide, were taken from the center to the anterior portion of the right ovary of each fish, since no macroscopic significant differencie was observed in the oogenic process in the anterior, central and posterior portion of the ovary. The sections were dehydrated in tetrahydrofuran and embedded in paraffin. Sections were cut at 6 microns and stained with haematoxylin and eosin (H & E). The gonosomatic index (GSI) or maturity index (MIl was calculated.

Abstract: objective. our study was intended to detail aspects of centronia mutisii such as its distribution, population status and propagation, due to the anthropogenic pressure on its habitat which is restricted to a localized area in cundinamarca and the district capital, and because it is listed as a vulnerable species (vu) by the iucn. materials and methods. we identified the potential distribution of c. mutisii (niche modeling), assessed the conservation status of the population, and applied plant propagation ex situ management treatments. results. the potential geographic distribution is restricted and until now a single population has been recorded in a locality. there is a marked edge effect on the population structure and propagation is difficult. conclusions. we propose this species as a conservation priority due to its extremely localized distribution and population structure being affected by processes that affect its habitat, and also to begin a discussion on the reclassification of its current threat level. decision makers should include c. mutisii in research and investment agendas to develop in situ and ex situ conservation strategies.
