Abstract: An experiment was conducted with 120, seven-day old Vencobb commercial broiler chick feeding ad libitum upto 42 days of age on 4 different iso-nitrogenous and iso-energetic diet formulated by replacing dietary sesame oil cake (SOC) by duckweed (DW) to have its effect on performance of broilers. Live weight, feed conversion and profitability increased when sesame oil cake was partially replaced by duck weed. Complete SOC replaced diet significantly reduced live weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion and profitability, as compared with partial replacement of SOC by duckweed and SOC based control diet. Partial replacement of SOC by DW did not affect survivability of broiler. So it might be concluded that replacement of costly SOC partially by cheaper unconventional DW in broiler diet resulted in increased profitability. Therefore, cheaper duckweed could be practiced in formulating economic balanced diet for broiler.

Abstract: Y3Al5O12 doped with 0.8 % wt. Nd (Nd:YAG) single crystals were grown by the Czochralski technique under an argon atmosphere. The conditions for growing the Nd: YAG single crystals were calculated by using a combination of Reynolds and Grashof numbers. The critical crystal diameter and the critical rate of rotation were calculated from the hydrodynamics of the melt. The crystal diameter Dc = 1.5 cm remained constant during the crystal growth, while the critical rate of rotation changed from wc = 38 rpm after necking to wc = 13 rpm at the end of the crystal. The value of the rate of crystal growth was experimentally found to be 0.8 1.0 mm/h. According to our previous experiments, it was confirmed that 20 min exposure to conc. H3PO4 at 603 K was suitable for chemical polishing. Also, one-hour exposure to conc. H3PO4 at 493 K was found to be suitable for etching. The lattice parameter a = 1.201 (1) nm was determined by X-ray powder diffraction. The obtained results are discussed and compared with published data.

Abstract: This paper investigates the scattering effect of domestic 0.5 at{\%} ceramic Nd:YAG. An effective method has been utilized to measure the scattering and absorption coefficients. An end-pumped continuous wave (CW) Nd:YAG ceramic laser was also demonstrated. A maximum output power of 6.7~W at 1064~nm was obtained at an 808-nm pump power of 32.9~W. Conversion efficiency and slope efficiency have been achieved. This indicates that scattering has an important effect on the optical performance of ceramic Nd:YAG.

Abstract: The treatment of vascular lesions of the tongue is a very challenging procedure since the maintenance of the lingual tissue is of critical importance. Numerous treatment options have been described in literature but the Nd:YAG Laser appears to be one of the safest therapeutic options. We described a successful treatment of vascular lesions of the tongue with an excellent clinical result after only one treatment session with the Nd:YAG laser, with conservation of the lingual tissue and its functionality.

Abstract: Objectives: To evaluate the complications of Nd:Yag laser when applied onpostoperative posterior capsule opacification (PCO), following extra capsular cataract extraction (ECCE) with intraocularlens (IOL). Design: Analytical and descriptive study. Setting: Eye OPD of DHQ Hospital, PMC and Clinic of ProfessorZia ud Din Ahmad, Faisalabad. Period: From Jan 2006 to Jan 2007. Material & Methods. There were 120 patients;age ranged from 15 years to 80 years with post operated extra capsular cataract extraction with posterior capsularopacification. A Proforma was made which included detailed history of diabetes, hypertension, time period of cataractextraction, other relevant surgical or medical history, and examination e.g. Visual acuity, slit lamp examination,intraocular pressure measurement (applanation tonometry) dilated posterior capsule examination and slit lampbiomicroscopy etc. The patients were kept under observation for 5 hour and called for follow up after one week.Results. Out of 120 patients 70 eyes showed visual improvement from 6/18 to 6/6 (58.34%), while 30 Shown visualacuity improvement from count figures to 6/24 (25%), mild anterior uveitis occurred in 8 cases (6.67%), corneal damagein 2 cases (1.6%) while transient raised Intraocular Pressure (IOP) in 7 cases (5.83%). The damage to IOL observedin 3(2.5%), the corneal damage was seen in 2 cases (1.67%). Conclusions: The Nd; Yag Laser is very effective, cheapand easy mode of treatment for PCO with minimal post laser complications.

Abstract: objectives: co2, er:yag and nd:yag lasers have been used in endodontic surgery. this in vitro study evaluated 1% rhodamine b dye penetration using computer-assisted morphometry (imagetool software?) of 108 endodontically treated human permanent canines. material and methods: teeth were divided into 9 groups according to the technique used: a: 90-degree apicoectomy with bur, root-end cavity preparation with ultrasound and filled with mta; b: 90-degree apicoectomy with bur, root-end cavity prepared with ultrasound and filled with mta, and treatment of apical surface with co2 laser (1 w, cw/cw); c: 90-degree apicoectomy with bur, and treatment of apical surface with nd:yag laser (150 mj, 10 hz); d: 90-degree apicoectomy with bur, and treatment of apical surface with co2 laser,(1 w, cw/cw); e: apicoectomy with er:yag laser (400 mj, 10 hz), root-end cavity prepared with ultrasound and filled with mta; f: apicoectomy with er:yag laser (400 mj, 10 hz) and treatment of apical surface with nd:yag laser (150 mj, 10hz); g: apicoectomy with co2 laser (5w, cw/sp), root-end cavity prepared with ultrasound and filled with mta; h: irradiation of apical end with co2 laser (1 w, cw/cw); i: irradiation of apical end with nd:yag laser (150 mj, 10 hz). results: dye penetration was found in all specimens at different rates, the lowest penetration occurring in groups c (16.20%), b (17.24%) and f (17.84%). conclusions: groups b, c and f represent the best technical sequences to perform endodontic surgery.

Abstract: Background: Neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy is a relatively noninvasive procedure that is used in the treatment of posterior capsular opacification (PCO). PCO is caused by proliferation of lens epithelial cells which causes fibrotic changes and wrinkling of the posterior capsule and results in decreased vision, glare, and other symptoms similar to that of the original cataract.Objective: To find out the visual outcome after performing Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for PCO.Materials and method: A prospective clinical trial was carried out in National Institute of Ophthalmology (NIO), Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2010 to June 2011 on purposively selected 70 adult subjects of both sexes who developed PCO within 2 months to more than 2 years after extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber intra ocular lens implant. After thorough pre laser assessment Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy was carried out with Zeis VISULAS YAG II through Zeiss slit lamp under topical anesthesia. Data were recorded and expressed as proportion.Results: Out of the 70 subjects 40 were male and 30 were female. The average time interval of cataract surgery and Nd: YAG laser capsulotomy was 23 months. Capsular fibrosis (57.04%) was the predominant type of PCO. The pre laser visual acuity (VA) of more than 61.06% of eyes was 6/36 or below while 41.12% had VA hand movements to finger count. After Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy VA of 6/18 or better was achieved in 63.9% of eyes while 9.94% recovered to 6/9 and 11.36% achieved 6/6. None of these eyes showed further deterioration in VA.Conclusion: Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for PCO is safe, effective and a rewarding procedure for improvement of vision.

Abstract: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an inflammatory skin disease that involves sebaceous glands and hair follicles of intertriginous areas, including axillary and inguinal regions. It is often chronic, painful, disabling, and can worsen over time. Besides surgically excising affected areas, effective treatments are currently lacking. The long-pulsed neodymium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is a device that has traditionally been used for hair removal, but has recently shown promise in clearing old lesions of HS and preventing new eruptions. In accordance with studies in the current literature, we hypothesize that the Nd:YAG laser will significantly improve subjects with hidradenitis suppurativa compared to standard, uninvasive treatment with topical antibiotics [1,2]. Study aims include: to treat subjects with hidradenitis suppurativa with Nd:YAG laser therapy once monthly for 3 consecutive months, with a one month follow-up; to compare the effectiveness of Nd:YAG treatment on one side of the subject (e.g., right) to treatment with topical antibiotics on the subject’s other side (e.g., left); to assess treatment response using a visual analogue scale; to assess subject satisfaction with treatment using a questionnaire; and to photodocument treatment response at each visit.
