Creative Education (CE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2015.68077
Abstract: This paper focuses upon the problem of raising environmental awareness in the context of school science education through an aesthetic appreciation of natural phenomena. In distinguishing between school learning and what could be called “conscious learning”, the paper explores the role that such an aesthetic appreciation of nature, and more specifically of natural entities, such as trees, laves, water drops, crystals, and phenomena, such as, flashes of lightning, aurora borealis, the water cycle, volcanic eruptions and stellar explosions, can be an integral part of science teaching, which, in turn, can help raise in students environmental awareness.

Abstract: The influence of human aesthetic appreciation of animal species on public attitudes towards their conservation and related decision-making has been studied in industrialized countries but remains underexplored in developing countries. Working in three agropastoralist communities around Amboseli National Park, southern Kenya, we investigated the relative strength of human aesthetic appreciation on local attitudes towards the conservation of wildlife species. Using semi-structured interviewing and free listing (n = 191) as part of a mixed methods approach, we first characterized local aesthetic judgments of wildlife species. With a Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) approach, we then determined the influence of perceiving four species as beautiful on local support for their protection (“rescuing them”), and of perceiving four other species as ugly on support for their removal from the area, while controlling for informant personal and household socioeconomic attributes. Perceiving giraffe, gazelles and eland as beautiful is the strongest variable explaining support for rescuing them. Ugliness is the strongest variable influencing support for the removal of buffalo, hyena, and elephant (but not lion). Both our qualitative and quantitative results suggest that perceptions of ugly species could become more positive through direct exposure to those species. We propose that protected areas in developing countries facilitate visitation by local residents to increase their familiarity with species they rarely see or most frequently see in conflict with human interests. Since valuing a species for its beauty requires seeing it, protected areas in developing countries should connect the people who live around them with the animals they protect. Our results also show that aesthetic appreciation of biodiversity is not restricted to the industrialized world.

International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/ijerph8030777
Abstract: Traffic influences the quality of life in a neighborhood in many different ways. Today, in many patsy of the world the benefits of accessibility are taken for granted and traffic is perceived as having a negative impact on satisfaction with the neighborhood. Negative health effects are observed in a number of studies and these stimulate the negative feelings in the exposed population. The noise produced by traffic is one of the most important contributors to the appreciation of the quality of life. Thus, it is useful to define a number of indicators that allow monitoring the current impact of noise on the quality of life and predicting the effect of future developments. This work investigates and compares a set of indicators related to exposure at home and exposure during trips around the house. The latter require detailed modeling of the population’s trip behavior. The validity of the indicators is checked by their ability to predict the outcome of a social survey and by outlining potential causal paths between them and the outcome variables considered: general satisfaction with the quality of life in the neighborhood, noise annoyance at home, and reported traffic density in the area.

- , 2016, DOI: 10.15896/j.xjtuskxb.201606017

Meanwhile, an aesthetic appreciation of "free imagination" began to gestate when people expressed their feeling towards the nature

- , 2018,

It is a transcendental value of integrity as the knowledge framework of ancient Chinese concept of thought. “Tianxia” has both cultural transcendence dimension and political reality dimension, and thus evolves into Tianxia Doctrine as an ideology and formes a trinity structure. Tianxia Doctrine is presented in an aesthetic way in the landscape paintings of the Song dynasty. The compositional structure with the “Three Farness” as its core is the presentation form of Tianxia Doctrine in the landscape paintings. The aesthetic image layout which reflects the structure of political ethics,is the structural system of Tianxia Doctrine presented in the landscape paintings. “Tianxia” is presented in the relationship between vacuity and reality in the landscape paintings in an aesthetic way,and cloud, water and negative space are commonly art methods used.
Recognition and appreciation as key success criteria of modern leadership
Philipp Rettler,Stephanie G?ll
Journal für Psychologie , 2011,
Abstract: The concepts of recognition and appreciation are gaining importance in daily business and in the realm of scientific discussion. This can be observed, both through the rising number of publications that are dealing with these topics, and through the increased attention devoted by practitioners. Firms now are likely to face the situation of being judged based on the seriousness with which they handle these issues. The accurate handling of recognition, appreciation and criticism demands the establishment of a management culture based on recognition, in which appreciation and criticism can be used as an instrument for motivation and behavioral control. To do so, it is of utmost importance, to handle appreciation and criticism based on the requirements of each specific situation. This demands high standards in the qualification and education of modern managers.
Portfolio Construction for Value Appreciation  [PDF]
Michael Ha, George Z. Liu, Lihui Zheng
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (JAMP) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jamp.2016.44076

Background: While working as risk consultants at Barra in 1990’s, the first two authors decided to start collaborating on a research project with its first paper titled “Application of Volatility in Portfolio Construction” [1]. The third author was then a risk manager of a financial institution which was a client of Barra’s. Bringing his expertise in portfolio risk management, he joined the research team. Aim: The core of this paper lies in the construction of an investment portfolio with a main objective of value appreciation while examining its tracking error [1]-[3], a risk measurement with reference to a benchmark [1] [4]. The authors believe, while tracking error measurement is a common tool for portfolio risk management, total risk measurement is more important. The management goal is to minimize drawbacks using the technique of risk budgeting. These topics will be discussed in future research papers.
