An Efficient Method to Reduce the Numerical Dispersion in the HIE-FDTD Scheme  [PDF]

Abstract: A parameter optimized approach for reducing the numerical dispersion of the 3-D hybrid implicit-explicit finite-difference time-domain (HIE-FDTD) is presented in this letter. By adding a parameter into the HIE-FDTD formulas, the error of the numerical phase velocity can be controlled, causing the numerical dispersion to decrease significantly. The numerical stability and dispersion relation are presented analytically, and numerical experiments are given to substantiate the proposed method.
Highly-efficient FDTD method of full-wave analysis on the microstrip defected ground structure

Abstract: The defected ground structure (DGS) has slow wave, high impedance and many other characteristics. It is becoming a research focus for microwave circuit design in recent years. The Courant condition must be satisfied when using the conventional FDTD method to estimate the DGS, which makes the conventional FDTD method inefficient. In this paper, the HIE-FDTD method which is weakly conditionally stable is transformed for analysis of microstrip DGS planar circuits, at the same time, the numerical results for the conventional FDTD method are also rendered for comparing and validation. Finally, it shows that the HIE-FDTD method agrees very well with the conventional FDTD method and saves time remarkably. The absorbing boundary conditions for the HIE-FDTD method are also presented.
Applications of a Three-Dimensional FDTD Method with Weakly Conditional Stability to the Analysis of Microstrip Filters with Fine Scale Structures

Abstract: In three-dimensional space, the hybrid implicit-explicit finite-difference time-domain (HIE-FDTD) method is weakly conditionally stable, only determined by two space-discretizations, which is very useful for problems with fine structures in one direction. Its numerical dispersion errors with nonuniform cells are discussed and compared in this paper. To enlarge the applicable field of the HIE-FDTD method to open space, the absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) for this method are also introduced and applied. Two microstrip filters with fine scale structures in one direction are solved by the HIE-FDTD method. Conventional FDTD method and alternating-direction implicit FDTD (ADI-FDTD) method are also used for comparing. Results analyzed by the HIE-FDTD method agree well with those from conventional FDTD, and the required central process unit (CPU) time is much less than that of the ADI-FDTD method.

Abstract: A cold sensation (hie) is common in Japanese women and is an important treatment target in Kampo medicine. Physicians diagnose patients as having hiesho (cold disorder) when hie disturbs their daily activity. However, differences between hie and hiesho in men and women are not well described. Hie can be of three types depending on body part where patients feel hie. We aimed to clarify the characteristics of patients with hie and hiesho by analyzing data from new patients seen at the Kampo Clinic at Keio University Hospital between 2008 and 2013. We collected information about patients’ subjective symptoms and their severity using visual analogue scales. Of 4,016 new patients, 2,344 complained about hie and 524 of those were diagnosed with hiesho. Hie was most common in legs/feet and combined with hands or lower back, rather than the whole body. Almost 30% of patients with hie felt upper body heat symptoms like hot flushes. Cold sensation was stronger in hiesho than non-hiesho patients. Patients with hie had more complaints. Men with hiesho had the same distribution of hie and had symptoms similar to women. The results of our study may increase awareness of hiesho and help doctors treat hie and other symptoms. 1. While hie is used to describe the subjective, uncomfortable feeling of coldness, hiesho is the diagnosis given by physicians to patients with cold sensations that disturb their daily living. Therefore, the first distinction to make is one between normal and hie groups. Those who experience hie can further be subdivided into hiesho and non-hiesho categories (Figure 1). Abstract: 缺陷地结构(defectedgroundstructure,DGS)具有慢波、高阻抗等特性,是近年来微波电路设计领域的一个研究热点,在运用传统时域有限差分(finite-differencetime-domain,FDTD)方法分析DGS时,因Courant稳定性条件其计算效率受限。提出将一种弱条件稳定的混合隐显式FDTD(hybridimplicit-explicitFDTD,HIE-FDTD)方法经变换应用于分析具有缺陷地结构的微带平面电路,同时用传统FDTD方法的仿真结果与该方法的结果做比较。数值结果表明,该HIE-FDTD方法显著节省了计算时间,是一种高效可行的算法。另外还提出了适用于该方法的吸收边界条件的具体实现方案。

Abstract: Kota yang terletak pada kondisi geografis berada pada tepian sungai, sebaiknya menggunakan prinsip waterfront dalam perancangan kotanya. Salah satu prinsip waterfront adalah terdapat akses untuk memudahkan manusia berhubungan dengan air. Belakangan ini, terjadi kecenderungan mulai ditinggalkannya transportasi sungai dan beralih ke transportasi darat yang memastikan bahwa hubungan manusia dengan air akan semakin berkurang. Seng Hie sebagai salah satu kawasan waterfront di Pontianak, merupakan daerah yang memungkinkan publik untuk berhubungan langsung dengan air. Apakah di Seng Hie masih terdapat jalur pejalan kaki yang dapat memberi citra kawasan waterfront? Pertanyaaan ini dapat dijawab dengan melakukan penelitian dengan mengidentifikasi jalur pajalan kaki yang berada di kawasan waterfront, Seng Hie. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah rasionalistik kualitatif. Menggunakan metode deskriptif dan evaluative berdasarkan parameter teori. Penelitian dilakukan pada kawasan dengan membagi kawasan menjadi 4 (empat) penggal, berdasarkan kondisi eksisting terdapatnya akses yang membagi kawasan. Lingkup penelitian merupakan batasan terhadap keberadaan dan jenis jalur pejalan kaki. Pada kawasan Seng Hie masih ditemukan tersedianya jalur pejalan kaki, dengan 5 (lima) jenis jalur pejalan kaki. Terdapat permasalahan umum pada keseluruhan kawasan, yaitu: tidak terdapat kesinambungan hubungan seluruh jalur pejalan kaki, jalur pejalan kaki tidak dapat memberi kenyamanan bagi publik untuk berhubungan langsung dengan air, jalur pejalan kaki tidak memberi keleluasaan publik untuk menikmati pemandangan sungai, dan dermaga tidak dapat menampung kegiatan komersial yang melayani kegiatan rekreasi. Hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa kawasan Seng Hie tidak menyediakan jalur pejalan kaki yang sesuai dengan prinsip waterfront.
Beam Dynamics Studies for the HIE-ISOLDE Linac at CERN  [PDF]

Abstract: The upgrade of the normal conducting (NC) Radioactive Ion Beam EXperiment (REX)-ISOLDE heavy ion accelerator at CERN, under the High Intensity and Energy (HIE)-ISOLDE framework, proposes the use of superconducting (SC) quarter-wave resonators (QWRs) to increase the energy capability of the facility from 3 MeV/u to beyond 10 MeV/u. A beam dynamics study of a lattice design comprising SC QWRs and SC solenoids has confirmed the design's ability to accelerate ions, with a mass-to-charge ratio in the range 2.5 < A/q < 4.5, to the target energy with a minimal emittance increase. We report on the development of this study to include the implementation of realistic fields within the QWRs and solenoids. A preliminary error study is presented in order to constrain tolerances on the manufacturing and alignment of the linac.
