Amru Hussein Mathematics , 2012, Abstract: For a self--adjoint Laplace operator on a finite, not necessarily compact, metric graph lower and upper bounds on each of the negative eigenvalues are derived. For compact finite metric graphs Poincar\'{e} type inequalities are given.
Mathematics , 2014, Abstract: We consider Laplacians on periodic metric graphs with unit-length edges. The spectrum of these operators consists of an absolutely continuous part (which is a union of an infinite number of non-degenerated spectral bands) plus an infinite number of flat bands, i.e., eigenvalues of infinite multiplicity. Our main result is a localization of spectral bands in terms of eigenvalues of Dirichlet and Neumann operators on a fundamental domain of the periodic graph. The proof is based on the spectral band localization for discrete Laplacians and on the relation between the spectra of discrete and metric Laplacians.
Mathematics , 2013, Abstract: We consider Laplacians on periodic equilateral metric graphs. The spectrum of the Laplacian consists of an absolutely continuous part (which is a union of an infinite number of non-degenerated spectral bands) plus an infinite number of flat bands, i.e., eigenvalues of infinite multiplicity. We estimate the Lebesgue measure of the bands on a finite interval in terms of geometric parameters of the graph. The proof is based on spectral properties of discrete Laplacians.
Computer Science , 2009, Abstract: The standard notion of the Laplacian of a graph is generalized to the setting of a graph with the extra structure of a transmission system. A transmission system is a mathematical representation of a means of transmitting (multi-parameter) data along directed edges from vertex to vertex. The associated transmission graph Laplacian is shown to have many of the former properties of the classical case, including: an upper Cheeger type bound on the second eigenvalue minus the first of a geometric isoperimetric character, relations of this difference of eigenvalues to diameters for k-regular graphs, eigenvalues for Cayley graphs with transmission systems. An especially natural transmission system arises in the context of a graph endowed with an association. Other relations to transmission systems arising naturally in quantum mechanics, where the transmission matrices are scattering matrices, are made. As a natural merging of graph theory and matrix theory, there are numerous potential applications, for example to random graphs and random matrices.
Mathematics , 2010, Abstract: By introducing a weight function to the Laplace operator, Bakry and \'Emery defined the "drift Laplacian" to study diffusion processes. Our first main result is that, given a Bakry-\'Emery manifold, there is a naturally associated family of graphs whose eigenvalues converge to the eigenvalues of the drift Laplacian as the graphs collapse to the manifold. Applications of this result include a new relationship between Dirichlet eigenvalues of domains in $\R^n$ and Neumann eigenvalues of domains in $\R^{n+1}$ and a new maximum principle. Using our main result and maximum principle, we are able to generalize \emph{all the results in Riemannian geometry based on gradient estimates to Bakry-\'Emery manifolds}.
Mathematics , 2007, Abstract: The main objective of the present work is to study contraction semigroups generated by Laplace operators on metric graphs, which are not necessarily self-adjoint. We prove criteria for such semigroups to be continuity and positivity preserving. Also we provide a characterization of generators of Feller semigroups on metric graphs.
Mathematics , 2011, Abstract: Despite of the extreme success of the spectral graph theory, there are relatively few papers applying spectral analysis to hypergraphs. Chung first introduced Laplacians for regular hypergraphs and showed some useful applications. Other researchers treated hypergraphs as weighted graphs and then studied the Laplacians of the corresponding weighted graphs. In this paper, we aim to unify these very different versions of Laplacians for hypergraphs. We introduce a set of Laplacians for hypergraphs through studying high-ordered random walks on hypergraphs. We prove the eigenvalues of these Laplacians can effectively control the mixing rate of high-ordered random walks, the generalized distances/diameters, and the edge expansions.
Mathematics , 2008, DOI: 10.1007/978-1-4419-1343-2_2 Abstract: We consider general second order uniformly elliptic operators subject to homogeneous boundary conditions on open sets $\phi (\Omega)$ parametrized by Lipschitz homeomorphisms $\phi$ defined on a fixed reference domain $\Omega$. Given two open sets $\phi (\Omega)$, $\tilde \phi (\Omega)$ we estimate the variation of resolvents, eigenvalues and eigenfunctions via the Sobolev norm $\|\tilde \phi -\phi \|_{W^{1,p}(\Omega)}$ for finite values of $p$, under natural summability conditions on eigenfunctions and their gradients. We prove that such conditions are satisfied for a wide class of operators and open sets, including open sets with Lipschitz continuous boundaries. We apply these estimates to control the variation of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions via the measure of the symmetric difference of the open sets. We also discuss an application to the stability of solutions to the Poisson problem.
Mathematics , 2011, Abstract: In this paper we study absence of embedded eigenvalues for Schr\"odinger operators on non-compact connected Riemannian manifolds. A principal example is given by a manifold with an end (possibly more than one) in which geodesic coordinates are naturally defined. In this case one of our geometric conditions is a positive lower bound of the second fundamental form of angular submanifolds at infinity inside the end. Another condition may be viewed (at least in a special case) as being a bound of the trace of this quantity, while similarly, a third one as being a bound of the derivative of this trace. In addition to geometric bounds we need conditions on the potential, a regularity property of the domain of the Schr\"odinger operator and the unique continuation property. Examples include ends endowed with asymptotic Euclidean or hyperbolic metrics studied previously in the literature.
Mathematics , 2015, Abstract: We consider Laplacians on periodic both discrete and metric equilateral graphs. Their spectrum consists of an absolutely continuous part (which is a union of non-degenerate spectral bands) and flat bands, i.e., eigenvalues of infinite multiplicity. We estimate effective masses associated with the ends of each spectral band in terms of geometric parameters of graphs. Moreover, in the case of the beginning of the spectrum we determine two-sided estimates of the effective mass in terms of geometric parameters of graphs. The proof is based on the Floquet theory, the factorization of fiber operators, the perturbation theory and the relation between effective masses for Laplacians on discrete and metric graphs, obtained in our paper.
