Estimates and Existence Results for some Fully Nonlinear Elliptic Equations on Riemannian Manifolds  [PDF]
Jeff Viaclovsky
Mathematics , 2001,
Abstract: We prove estimates and existence results for some fully nonlinear elliptic equations on Riemannian manifolds. These equations are not arbitrary, but arise naturally in the study of conformal geometry.

Yan He,Weimin Sheng
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: In this paper we consider Yamabe type problem for higher order curvatures on manifolds with totally geodesic boundaries. We prove local gradient and second derivative estimates for solutions to the fully nonlinear elliptic equations associated with the problems.

Abstract: In this paper we establish existence and compactness of solutions to a general fully nonlinear version of the Yamabe problem on locally conformally flat Riemannian manifolds with umbilic boundary.

Abstract: We derive a priori second order estimates for solutions of a class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations on Riemannian manifolds under some very general structure conditions. We treat both equations on closed manifolds, and the Dirichlet problem on manifolds with boundary without any geometric restrictions to the boundary except being smooth and compact. As applications of these estimates we obtain results on regularity and existence.

Mathematics , 2001,
Abstract: We study a fully nonlinear flow for conformal metrics. The long-time existence and the sequential convergence of flow are established for locally conformally flat manifolds. As an application, we solve the $\sk$-Yamabe problem for locally conformal flat manifolds when $k \neq n/2$.

Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: In this paper, we derive a priori estimates for the gradient and second order derivatives of solutions to a class of Hessian type fully nonlinear parabolic equations with the first initial-boundary value problem on Riemannian manifolds. These a priori estimates are derived under conditions which are nearly optimal. Especially, there are no geometric restrictions on the boundary of the Riemannian manifolds. And as an application, the existence of smooth solutions to the first initial-boundary value problem even for infinity time is obtained.

Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: We present some new ideas to derive {\em a priori} second order estiamtes for a wide class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations. Our methods, which produce new existence results for the initial-boundary value problems in $\bfR^n$, are powerful enough to work in general Riemannian manifolds.
The k-Yamabe problem on CR manifolds  [PDF]
Ezequiel Barbosa,Luiz Gustavo Carneiro,Marcos Montenegro
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: We introduce the notion of pseudohermitian k-curvature, which is a natural extension of the Webster scalar curvature, on an orientable manifold endowed with a strictly pseudoconvex pseudohermitian structure (referred here as a CR manifold) and raise the k-Yamabe problem on a compact CR manifold. When k=1, the problem was proposed and partially solved by Jerison and Lee for CR manifolds non-locally CR-equivalent to the CR sphere. For k > 1, the problem can be translated in terms of the study of a fully nonlinear equation of type complex k-Hessian. We provide some partial answers related to the CR k-Yamabe problem. We establish that its solutions with null Cotton tensor are critical points of a suitable geometric functional constrained to pseudohermitian structures of unit volume. Thanks to this variational property, we establish a Obata type result for the problem and also compute the infimum of the functional on the CR sphere. Furthermore, we show that this value is an upper bound for the corresponding one on any compact CR manifolds and, assuming the CR Yamabe invariant is positive, we prove that such an upper bound is only attained for compact CR manifolds locally CR-equivalent to the CR sphere. In the Riemannian field, recent advances have been produced in a series of outstanding works.
Second order estimates for Hessian type fully nonlinear elliptic equations on Riemannian manifolds  [PDF]
Bo Guan,Heming Jiao
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: We derive a priori estimates for second order derivatives of solutions to a wide calss of fully nonlinear elliptic equations on Riemannian manifolds. The equations we consider naturally appear in geometric problems and other applications such as optimal transportation. There are some fundamental assumptions in the literature to ensure the equations to be elliptic and that one can apply Evans-Krylov theorem once estimates up to second derivatives are derived. However, in previous work one needed extra assumptions which are more technical in nature to overcome various difficulties. In this paper we are able to remove most of these technical assumptions. Indeed, we derive the estimates under conditions which are almost optimal, and prove existence results for the Dirichlet problem which are new even for bounded domains in Euclidean space. Moreover, our methods can be applied to other types of nonlinear elliptic and parabolic equations, including those on complex manifolds.
The Yamabe flow on incomplete manifolds  [PDF]
Yuanzhen Shao
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: This article is concerned with developing an analytic theory for second order nonlinear parabolic equations on singular manifolds. Existence and uniqueness of solutions in an Lp-framework is established by maximal regularity tools. These techniques are applied to the Yamabe flow. It is proven that the Yamabe flow admits a unique local solution within a class of incomplete initial metrics.
