Recent progress in the methods of genome sequencing
Ning-wei, Zhao;
Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-89132010000200010
Abstract: genome sequencing is a very important tool for the development of genetic diagnosis, drugs of gene engineering, pharmacogenetics, etc. as the hgp comes into people's ears, there is an emerging need for the genome sequencing. during the recent years, there are two different traditional strategies available for this target: shotgun sequencing and hierarchical sequencing. besides these, many efforts are pursuing new ideas to facilitate fast and cost-effective genome sequencing, including 454 gs system, polony sequencing, single molecular array, nanopore sequencing, with each having different unique characteristics, but remains to be fully developed.
Recent progress in the anisotropic electrical impedance problem
Gunther Uhlmann
Electronic Journal of Differential Equations , 2001,
Abstract: We survey some recent progress on the problem of determining an anisotropic conductivity of a medium by making voltage and current measurements at the boundary of the medium.
Role of Cytokines in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Recent Progress from GWAS and Sequencing
John J. Connolly,Hakon Hakonarson
Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/798924
Abstract: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disorder, known to have a strong genetic component. Concordance between monozygotic twins is approximately 30–40%, which is 8–20 times higher than that of dizygotic twins. In the last decade, genome-wide approaches to understanding SLE have yielded many candidate genes, which are important to understanding the pathophysiology of the disease and potential targets for pharmaceutical intervention. In this paper, we focus on the role of cytokines and examine how genome-wide association studies, copy number variation studies, and next-generation sequencing are being employed to understand the etiology of SLE. Prominent genes identified by these approaches include BLK, FCγR3B, and TREX1. Our goal is to present a brief overview of genomic approaches to SLE and to introduce some of the key discussion points pertinent to the field.
Electrical resistance: an atomistic view  [PDF]
Supriyo Datta
Physics , 2004, DOI: 10.1088/0957-4484/15/7/051
Abstract: This tutorial article presents a "bottom-up" view of electrical resistance starting from something really small, like a molecule, and then discussing the issues that arises as we move to bigger conductors. Remarkably, no serious quantum mechanics is needed to understand electrical conduction through something really small, except for unusual things like the Kondo effect that are seen only for a special range of parameters. This article starts with energy level diagrams (section 2), shows that the broadening that accompanies coupling limits the conductance to a maximum of q^2/h per level (sections 3, 4), describes how a change in the shape of the self-consistent potential profile can turn a symmetric current-voltage characteristic into a rectifying one (sections 5, 6), shows that many interesting effects in molecular electronics can be understood in terms of a simple model (section 7), introduces the non-equilibrium Green function (NEGF) formalism as a sophisticated version of this simple model with ordinary numbers replaced by appropriate matrices (section 8) and ends with a personal view of unsolved problems in the field of nanoscale electron transport (section 9). Appendix A discusses the Coulomb blockade regime of transport, while appendix B presents a formal derivation of the NEGF equations. MATLAB codes for numerical examples are listed in the appendix C.
Recent Progress in QCD  [PDF]
George Sterman
Physics , 1999,
Abstract: The past few years have seen remarkable progress in the theory and phenomenology of QCD, bringing perturbative and nonperturbative methods into closer contact with each other and with experiment.

Hiyama E.
EPJ Web of Conferences , 2010, DOI: 10.1051/epjconf/20100301010
Abstract: Hypernuclear physics has become very exciting owing to new epoch-making experimental data. The recent progress in theoretical and experimental studies of hypernuclei and discussion ab out the future development in this led are done.
Recent Progress in Spin Glasses  [PDF]
N. Kawashima,H. Rieger
Physics , 2003,
Abstract: We review recent findings on spin glass models. Both the equilibrium properties and the dynamic properties are covered. We focus on progress in theoretical, in particular numerical, studies, while its relationship to real magnetic materials is also mentioned.
Recent Progress on Ricci Solitons  [PDF]
Huai-Dong Cao
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: Ricci solitons are natural generalizations of Einstein metrics. They are also special solutions to Hamilton's Ricci flow and play important roles in the singularity study of the Ricci flow. In this paper, we survey some of the recent progress on Ricci solitons.
Recent progress in QCD at the LHC  [PDF]
Juan Rojo
Physics , 2014,
Abstract: Perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics has experienced an impressive progress in the last few years, boosted by the requirements of the LHC experimental program. In this contribution, I briefly review a selection of recent results in QCD and LHC phenomenology, covering progress in parton distribution functions, automation of NLO calculations, merging and matching at NLO, new calculations at NNLO accuracy and their matching to parton showers, and new developments and techniques in jet physics and jet substructure tools.
Recent Progress in Lattice QCD
Durr, Stephan
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2013,
Abstract: Recent progress in Lattice QCD is highlighted. After a brief introduction to the methodology of lattice computations the presentation focuses on three main topics: Hadron Spectroscopy, Hadron Structure and Lattice Flavor Physics. In each case a summary of recent computations of selected quantities is provided.
