Abstract: This paper draws attention to the prospects of sea-based economy to promote Bangladesh in a middle-income country through the sustainable use of marine resources. About three-fourths of the earth is covered by the seas. It plays the vital role in two important functions from ancient time known as the means of communication and the source of huge living and non-living natural resources. At present, the countries are becoming very much concerned about their marine resources to resolve many of the present and future challenges of their economies. Generally for Bangladesh, ocean is contributing a significant role to its overall socio-economic progress through rising up the economic activities across the country and especially to the coastal zone at southern part. This paper investigates how much Bangladesh is capable to take of or handle the challenges to become a middle income country through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, it has attempted with a closer-look to find out the barriers or limitations of these activities from different angles if exist.

Cleaner birds: an overview for the Neotropics
Sazima, Ivan;Sazima, Cristina;
Biota Neotropica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032010000400025
Abstract: several bird species feed on a variety of external parasites and epibionts, organic debris, dead and wounded tissue, clots and blood, and secretions from the body of other vertebrates (hosts or clients). we present an overview of so called cleaner birds from the neotropics based on field records, literature, and photo survey. we found that 33 bird species in 16 families practice cleaning even if some of them do so very occasionally. the birds range from the galápagos ground finch geospiza fuliginosa to the widespread black vulture coragyps atratus. clients mostly are large herbivores such as capybaras, deer, and livestock, but also include medium-sized herbivores such as iguanas and tortoises, and carnivores such as boobies and seals - a few bird species associate with these latter marine mammals. no carnivorous terrestrial mammal client is recorded to date except for a domestic dog, from whose hair black vultures picked organic debris. some clients adopt particular inviting postures while being cleaned, whereas others are indifferent or even disturbed by the activity of cleaner birds. capybaras, giant tortoises, and iguanas are among the inviting clients, whereas boobies try to dislodge the 'vampire' finch geospiza difficilis. most of the neotropical cleaner birds may be lumped in one broad category (omnivores that dwell in open areas and associate with large to medium-sized herbivores). a second, restricted category accommodates some species from patagonia and the galápagos islands (omnivores that dwell in open areas and associate with carnivorous marine mammals, or seabirds and marine reptiles). two still more restricted categories accommodate the following: 1) forest-dwelling cleaner birds; and 2) marine coastal cleaners. additional records of neotropical cleaner birds will mostly fall in the broad category.
Growth and yield performance of shingi, Heteropneustes fossilis and koi, Anabas testudineus in Bangladesh under semi-intensive culture systems

International Journal of Agricultural Research, Innovation and Technology : IJARIT , 2012,
Abstract: Production potential of shingi, Heteropneustes fossilis and koi, Anabas testudineus in polyculture were assessed at a stocking density of 2, 47,000 and 3, 70,500 ha-1, respectively in treatment T1 and T2. Monoculture of H. fossilis and A. testudineus was designed at a stocking density of 2, 47,000 ha-1 in treatment T3 and T4, respectively. Culture period of shingi was 120 days and koi was 100 days in all treatments. All fingerlings were of the same age at stocking, with a mean weight of 2.54±0.08 g for shingi and 0.50±0.01 g for koi, respectively. Commercial fish feeds (30.0% crude protein) supplied at the rate of 100 to 5% of total biomass twice daily. Fish production in treatment T1, T2, T3 and T4 were 18,803±111, 12,388±115, 10,042±5 kg ha-1 day-120 and 22,176±7 kg ha-1 day-100, respectively. The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly (P<0.05) lower in T4 than that of the other three treatments. The net financial benefits incurred from treatment T1, T2, T3 and T4 were Bangladeshi Taka 17,65,769; 6,691; 15,83,990 and 16,29,409 BDT ha-1, respectively. The mean differences of gross yields and net benefits among different treatments were significant (P<0.05). The polyculture technology of shingi and koi, and monoculture technology of koi may help to meet the dietary needs and improve the socio-economic status of the people of Bangladesh.
Extensive Reading in EFL Classroom at Secondary Schools in Bangladesh: Current Practices and Future Possibilities  [cached]
Md Zulfeqar Haider,Elina Akhter
International Education Studies , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/ies.v5n3p126
Abstract: Extensive reading is being practiced in many EFL and ESL classrooms as an effective means for developing learners’ reading as well as other related skills. This paper is based on a small-scale study that explores the current practices and future possibilities of using extensive reading in the EFL classrooms at the junior secondary schools in Bangladesh. The study reports the responses of 100 secondary English teachers on different aspects of using extensive reading tasks in the EFL classrooms of Bangladeshi schools. It is found that though the teachers of Bangladesh express positive beliefs about the benefits of extensive reading, the techniques they follow in their classrooms at present mostly encourage intensive reading. It is also evident that teachers who deal with extensive reading do not often follow the best practices in the classrooms. It is suggested in this study that extensive reading needs to be promoted in the Bangladeshi schools through coordinated efforts of all the stakeholders in the secondary education system. It is stressed that a combination of initiatives such as teacher training, awareness raising, curriculum reform and changing existing assessment format can promote the practices of extensive reading activities among the young learners.

Abstract: Наведено результати анал тичних досл джень процесу в дновлення поверхн осаджувальних пластин грав тац йного очисника безперервно д промиванням його мийними засобами. Вир шальним у цьому процес подолання тертя ковзання частинками забруднення. During the dirt accumulation the operating efficiency of the cleaners is decreasing and can be restored by cleaning the surface of sedimental plates cleaner. The condition of washing cleaner from pollution is excess of stokes forces on sliding friction force and size that characterizes the roll friction. Inequalities for all computed values of stoke strength were arranged and solved relative to waste of certain cleaning fluids. Thus: the flushing gravity cleaner with considered detergents is possible, more efficient process is to wash with detergent that has higher kinematic viscosity coefficient.
