Abstract: lean manufacturing was developed by toyota motor company to address their specific needs in a restricted market in times of economic trouble. these concepts have been studied and proven to be transferrable and applicable to a wide variety of industries. this paper aims to integrate a set of metrics that have been proposed by different authors in such a way that they are consistent with the different stages and elements of lean manufacturing implementations. to achieve this, two frameworks for lean implementations are presented and then the main factors for success are used as the basis to propose metrics that measure the advance in these factors. a tabular display of the impact of "lean activities" on the metrics is presented, proposing that many a priori assumptions about the benefits on many different levels of improvement should be accurate. finally, some ideas for future research and extension of the applications proposed on this paper are presented as closing points.

Abstract: Medición en Lean Manufacturing: Relaciones entre Actividades Lean y Métricas Lean Lean Manufacturing fue desarrollada por Toyota para satisfacer sus necesidades específicas en un mercado restringido y en tiempos de estrechez económica. Estos conceptos han sido estudiados y se ha comprobado su aplicabilidad en una amplia variedad de industrias. El objetivo de este artículo es el de integrar un conjunto de métricas que han sido propuestas por diferentes autores, de tal manera que sean consistentes con las etapas y elementos de implementaciones de Lean Manufacturing. Para lograrlo se presentan dos marcos de referencia para implementaciones Lean y los principales factores de éxito se utilizan como base para proponer métricas que identifiquen el avance en estos factores. Posteriormente se propone una tabla que cruza el impacto de las Actividades Lean sobre las métricas, postulando que muchos de los supuestos a priori sobre estos impactos deberían ser precisos. Finalmente se proponen algunas ideas para proyectos de investigación hacia el futuro y posibles extensiones de las aplicaciones propuestas aquí.

Abstract: Lean manufacturing has received a great deal of attention in its application to manufacturing companies. It is a set of tools and methodologies that aims for increased productivity; cycle time reduction and continuous elimination of all waste in the production process. The Lean manufacturing technique - Kaizen is internationally acknowledged as a method of continuous improvement, through small steps, of the economical results of companies. In this paper a case study is presented in which bottlenecks are identified in the assembly shop of the tractor manufacturing automobile company due to which the productivity was low. Thus, the implementation of lean manufacturing kaizen technique results in the removal of bottlenecks by reducing cycle time, increasing the productivity and eliminating all kinds of waste.

Abstract: Many companies are implementing lean manufacturing concept in order to remain competitive and sustainable, however, not many of them are successful in the process due to various reasons. Communication is an important aspect of lean process in order to successfully implement lean manufacturing. This paper determines the roles of communication process in ensuring a successful implementation of leanness in manufacturing companies. All the information of lean manufacturing practices and roles of communication in the implementation were compiled from related journals, books and websites. A study was conducted in an aerospace manufacturing in Malaysia. A five-point scale questionnaire is used as the study instrument. These questionnaires were distributed to 45 employees working in a kitting department and to 8 top management people. The results indicate that the degree of leanness were moderate.

Abstract: A small furniture production company has integrated lean tools and sustainability concepts with discrete event simulation modeling and analysis as well as mathematical optimization to make a positive impact on the environment, society and its own financial success. The principles of lean manufacturing that aid in the elimination of waste have helped the company meet ever increasing customer demands while preserving valuable resources for future generations. The implementation of lean and sustainable manufacturing was aided by the use of discrete event simulation and optimization to overcome deficits in lean’s traditional implementation strategies. Lean and green manufacturing can have a more significant, positive impact on multiple measures of operational performance when implemented concurrently rather than separately. These ideas are demonstrated by three applications.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify the extent of applying lean supply practices in the Garments manufacturing companies in Jordan, five variables were selected to be studied since the researcher believes that, they represent the lean supply concept, these variables are, Supplier feedback, Just in time delivery by suppliers, Supplier development, Customer involvement and Facilitation of just in time production, a survey questionnaire was distributed for that purpose to those who occupy managerial positions in those companies, the study revealed that the Garments Manufacturing Companies in Jordan adoption to the lean supply practices is considerably high at all aspects, except for supplier development which was given average rating.

Abstract: The economic reforms- Liberalization, Privatization, Globalization, (LPG) started in 1991 in India. The main objective of the government was to achieve high economic growth and industrialize the nation for the well-being of Indian citizens. Thus Indian market became Global and open market. Coal industry was not an exception to this phenomena of globalization. The improvement in productivity has become need of coal industry to take the competitive advantage of global market.The challenge to the coal Industry is to identify the wastes and meet the market price by maintaining a good profit. The only solution is to reduce total production cost. Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to identify and eliminate the waste through continuousimprovements and synchronizing the production process to obtain manufacturing excellence. This can be achieved by Lean thinking (to identify and eliminate wastes) and Lean production (to improve efficiency and effectiveness of equipment). Earlier the lean manufacturing concept was limited to manufacturing organizationnow it is used invariably in operation industries.In this paper researcher has applied lean manufacturing concept in order to increase productivity and to minimize the production cost of mining.

Abstract: Unpredictable, unstable and highlycompetitive conditions of today’s business havebrought significant changes to the global marketscene, imposing upon all participants a new''customer in focus" business philosophy. In theserespective conditions, the traditional ways of doingbusiness, centered on mass production, cannotsecure an adequate market position. On the otherhand, lean manufacturing, as a quick, innovative,inexpensive, flexible and computer-integratedmodel, almost entirely based on the application ofJIT concept, represents something like a ''recipe forsuccess''. More precisely, by identifying andeliminating unnecessary and wasteful activitiesinside the business process and by focusingattention exclusively on what, from the customer’sstandpoint appears to create value, lean productionsystem makes it possible to achieve maximumquality of production processes in order toestablish and maintain balance between good andtimely services to customers and service providers’profitability in the modern business environment.
