Getting rid of the negative Schwarzian derivative condition  [PDF]
Oleg S. Kozlovski
Mathematics , 2000,
Abstract: In this paper we will show that the assumption on the negative Schwarzian derivative is redundant in the case of C^3 unimodal maps with a nonflat critical point. The following theorem will be proved: For any C^3 unimodal map of an interval with a nonflat critical point there exists an interval around the critical value such that the first entry map to this interval has negative Schwarzian derivative. Another theorem proved in the paper provides useful cross-ratio estimates. Thus, all theorems proved only for unimodal maps with negative Schwarzian derivative can be easily generalized.
The dilemma of the academic industrial psychologist
C. Orpen
South African Journal of Industrial Psychology , 1977, DOI: 10.4102/sajip.v0i0.287
Abstract: The university industrial psychologist is often faced with a conflict between his roles as an 'academic scientist' and as a 'professional technician'. It is argued that this problem of 'dual allegiance' can be resolved to a large extent if the industrial psychologist: (i) reminds himself (and his students) that industrial psychology is not a special discipline on its own, but is an integral part of psychology-in-general, (ii) does not view his subject as just a mirror of professional practice, (iii) has regard for his subject as a scientific discipline, and not just as a useful tool for management, and (iv) convinces practitioners of the value of the subject in a variety of areas, ranging from testing to consumer behaviour.
THE ROLE OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST IN AN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
NOVOA,MóNICA; BALLESTEROS DE VALDERRAMA,BLANCA PATRICIA;
Universitas Psychologica , 2006,
Abstract: the research presented in this article was aimed to specify in detail psychologist?s role in the context of an intensive care unit, from the work at the health service humanization project, carried out by the pontificia universidad javeriana from 1994 to 2000. this research is framed as a documental one, with a non-experimental design of an evaluative type aimed to evaluate the results of the activities carried out in function of the proposed objectives. results were analysed at two levels: a qualitative level though logical frames methodology and a quantitative level, with descriptive and correlation statistics. results allowed to define psychologist?s role in three fundamental areas: attention to patients at the icu, attention to family members or caregivers, and work with health personnel. these three areas are related to the objective of improving this people quality of life.

THE PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY INTO PSYCHOLOGIST’S FORMATION AND PRACTICE.
Silvia Anahí de la Mano
Cuadernos de Neuropsicologia , 2010,
Abstract: The prevailing objective of this investigation has been study the psychologist’s value, in their professional practice, about the relation between the psychopharmacology and the psychopharmacotherapy. To purpose, a thirty psychologist sample, from both sexes has been used.Everybody inquiries, do their professional practice in the cities of General Pico and Santa Rosa, province of La Pampa. The participants congratulate the questionnaire to satisfy this study’s ending. The get on answers was compared about the central idea: a) theoretical and technical orientation underlying the professional practice; and b) training institution. The results suggest that there are statistically values of relationship between these variables: 1) theoretical and technical orientation underlying the professional practice / opinion about the psychopharmacotherapy; 2) theoretical and technical orientationunderlying the professional practice / interviewer’s sex; and 3) theoretical andtechnical orientation underlying the professional practice / opinion uponprofessional upgrade on psychopharmacology.
The introduction of new or advanced technology: The role of the industrial psychologist  [cached]
T. H. Veldsman
South African Journal of Industrial Psychology , 1990, DOI: 10.4102/sajip.v16i2.504
Abstract: The purpose of this article is to discuss the role that the industrial psychologist must and can play in the introduction of new or advanced technology. In the article attention is given to three topics: firstly, the rationale behind the industrial psychologist's contribution which finds its foundation in the discrepancy which usually arises between the expected and actual performance of a technology after its introduction; secondly a suggested methodology to assist the industrial psychologist in fulfilling his,her role in this respect; and thirdly, the major responsibilities of the industrial psychologist in this regard.
Sophie, an FDTD code on the way to multicore, getting rid of the memory bandwidth bottleneck better using cache  [PDF]
Olivier Cessenat
Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: FDTD codes, such as Sophie developed at CEA/DAM, no longer take advantage of the processor's increased computing power, especially recently with the raising multicore technology. This is rooted in the fact that low order numerical schemes need an important memory bandwidth to bring and store the computed fields. The aim of this article is to present a programming method at the software's architecture level that improves the memory access pattern in order to reuse data in cache instead of constantly accessing RAM memory. We will exhibit a more than two computing time improvement in practical applications. The target audience of this article is made of computing scientists and of electrical engineers that develop simulation codes with no specific knowledge in computer science or electronics.

A profile of the industrial psychologist in South Africa  [cached]
C. M. Tustin
South African Journal of Industrial Psychology , 1993, DOI: 10.4102/sajip.v19i2.554
Abstract: This article sketches a profile of the industrial psychologist in South Africa based on a sample of 255 registered industrial psychologists, representing a response rate of 49,52 percent. The results indicate that while most respondents are employed in the private sector, other institutions such as the state/semi-state, universities, technikons and research organisations are also fairly well represented. Regarding the specific work which they do, industrial psychologists in this country are primarily involved with the "traditional" areas of training and development, career development, organisation planning and development, performance appraisal, and recruitment and selection.
