Abstract:
青岛位于山东半岛南部,濒临黄海。作为一个沿海多山的城市,青岛的地形具有海岸线曲折并伴有海角及海湾点缀其中的特征。20世纪初,青岛被德国占领,西式街道和建筑也因此在青岛得以建造。里院即是德国占领期间中国劳工所居住建筑的名称。里院在保留中国传统四合院式空间结构的同时结合了西方的建筑技术,因此具备中西两种风格。此外,里院也是中国最早的现代住宅区。里院街区的空间系统在影响当地居民的生活方式及社交网络方面扮演了重要角色。而它作为一代又一代青岛人民的家,更是已经成为了一个精神符号。因其历史及鲜明的建筑特点,里院建筑被指定为青岛历史文化保护区之一,它的存在也有助于在青岛市内形成一个独特的地理景观。上世纪八十年代以来,青岛市区重建及重新开发工程对里院的保护产生了巨大的影响,许多不同群体均对此表示了担忧。本研究展示了里院街区的地理位置,根据院落组成及建筑特征对其进行了分类并分析了里院空间构成与当地居民生活方式之间的关系。
Qingdao lies in the south of Shandong Peninsula, on the coast of the Yellow Sea. As a coastal and hilly city, Qingdao has topographic features consisting of twisted coastlines dotted with capes and bays. The beginning of the 20th century witnessed the construction of western-style streets and buildings in Qingdao when it was occupied by Germany. Liyuan is the name of the residential buildings for Chinese labors during the German occupation. Liyuan retains the spatial composition of Chinese quadrangles (Siheyuan), and at the same time the feature of western technology. Therefore, they have both Chinese and western flavors. In addition, they are the earliest urban residential complexes in China. The space system of Liyuan blocks has played an important role in the lifestyle and social network of the local residents. Liyuan has been the home of Qingdao people from generation to generation, which makes it a spiritual symbol. Owing to its history and characteristics, Liyuan architecture has been designated as one of the historical and cultural protected areas in Qingdao, and has contributed to the formation of a distinctive geographical landscape. Since the 1980s, urban renewal and redevelopment in Qingdao have greatly impacted upon the protection of Liyuan, which has aroused concern from various communities. This research on Liyuan shows the geographic location of all the Liyuan blocks, classifies them in terms of courtyard composition and architectural features, and analyzes the relationship between their spatial composition and the residents’ life-style.

Abstract: At this article it has been considered the questions concerning the occurrence of efflorescence on the surface of buildings’ exterior walls made of vibropressed concrete blocks. The chemical and mineralogical composition of efflorescences were investigated using the electron-scan microscope and diffractometer. The mechanism of the efflorescence occurrence was disclosed.The suitability of hydrophobization as a purifying method of the above mentioned walls from efflorescences was analyzed. The results of full-scale testing of proposed methods are given.
Lifestyles and Their Impact on Energy-Related Investment Decisions  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents an empirical survey of energy-related investment decisions made by private households in Germany. The investment behaviour is segmented and discussed by applying the milieu approach. The decision makers are clustered in certain lifestyles, as represented by the Sinus-Milieus® from the Sinus Institute. To analyse the relationship between the lifestyles of house owners and their energy-related investment decisions, telephone interviews were conducted in order to acquire data on currently installed heating systems and preferences for future heating systems in private residential buildings. The results of the survey support the hypothesis of a link between lifestyles and the energy-related investment behaviour. Based on the observed relationship between lifestyles and decisions on energy technologies, predictions of energy trends in private residential buildings can be improved. In addition, the knowledge about specific development paths allows the utilisation of the information for information campaigns and the promotion of energy supply technologies which lead to lower CO2-emissions.

Abstract: Lifestyles have been studied by different disciplines such associology, anthropology, and epidemiology. Both the termand the greatest developments in this regard stem from thesocial and cultural sciences, which consider lifestyles as groupbehavior patterns upon which social structure has remarkableinfluence. Epidemiology has used the concepts of lifestyleand health extensively, but with a more restricted meaning,associating it with behaviors that people assume in a rationalway and that can be hazardous for their health. In this paperwe analyze some common traits of recently published studieson lifestyle in regards to the suffering of some diseases. Weconclude that a shift toward contextual considerations can beobserved. Such considerations overcome the strictly individualperspective regarding lifestyles and health. Nevertheless,additional insight from other disciplines, especially from thesocial sciences, is required. Likewise, theoretical frameworkslinking individual decisions to contextual constraints orpossibilities are needed.

Abstract: With increasing urbanization, particularly in the coastal regions of developing countries, the development of disaster management schemes is needed as the losses from a single event can destroy decades of development and threaten local populations, buildings and infrastructure. Geo-environmental suitability is often evaluated systematically in order to assess the nature of hazards and their potential damage to human life, land, buildings and other property. A suitability assessment will indicate the priorities for geological and environmental hazard management. This paper presents a geological environment suitability assessment that aims to identify grading in a current seaside urban development and develop practices to aid in the identification of hidden geological and environmental hazards. The Laoshan area in the city of Qingdao was used as a case study because it constitutes a good example of a developing city with geological and environmental threats. Also, urban plans have been drawn up here with insufficient or absent information on losses from potential natural hazards.

Environments for Active Lifestyles: Sustainable Environments May Enhance Human Health

Abstract: A growing number of studies focus on the role of environments in promoting active lifestyles.1 Being physically active in daily life, which is known to have significant health benefits,2 is easier to do in some environments than it is in others. Despite mounting evidence on the relationships between environmental characteristics, activity patterns, and health,3 most decisions on environmental planning and design appear to be made without considering their implications for residents’ activity and their health. In order to promote physically-active lifestyles through environmental design, it is desirable that environmental decision-making processes explicitly incorporate people’s activity patterns as a key criterion. However, those who are involved in environmental planning and design are not necessarily aware that their decisions could ultimately affect people’s health by influencing their behaviors. Although the importance of collaboration between planning, transportation and public health has been advocated for many years,1 there remains significant work to be done to realize such cooperation. This commentary discusses the possibility of making use of existing planning and design initiatives to promote active lifestyles. More specifically, I argue that environmental planning principles aiming for sustainability in urban or suburban areas, such as compact city and smart growth, could not only make environments conducive to physical activity, but also help reduce time in sedentary behavior— newly identified and significant health risk. Human health and environmental sustainability are both top-priority issues in today’s society. The planning and design of environments that can improve human and environmental health simultaneously are more likely to receive strong support from a wide range of stakeholders, thus have a better chance of being implemented.

Abstract: A study on landfill gas emission in Qingdao,China was carried out. The results showed that the generation of landfill gas with maximum methane concentration occurred several months after the refuse was disposed and the steady emission of landfill gas could remain two years.The variation of landfill gas production was associated with temperature. In June, the emission of landfill gas rose gradually from morning to evening, but in September, it rose in the morning, and then fell in the afternoon. From June to August, the emission of landfill gas showed rising trend,but it declined quite quickly from September to December. In different seasons,the outflow rate of landfill gas varied from depth to depth in the refuse site. When earth temperature was higher in summer, the emission of landfill gas did not correspond with the depth of refuse sites, but when temperature fell in winter, and the temperature became a limited factor to the gas production,the outflow of landfill gas increased with increasing in depth of refuse piling.
