Abstract: Through its relief variety coefficient, the Barlad Plateau is registered as a standard territory, pointing a hilly region of which soil cover presents a pronounced diversity. Considering all this, it has two main corresponding pedogenetic areas:cernisoils and luvisoils. The first characterize mostly Colinele Tutovei, while the luvosoils appear dominantly in the Central Moldavian Plateau. Their physical,hydro-physical and chemical characteristics, as the relief conditions, to which the brainless usage mode is added, have increased considerably the vulnerability to erosion. Abstract: Based on updated data from 17 representative water quality monitoring spots in Donggang district, Rizhao City, Shandong Province, and detailed analyses of hydrogeological features, the authors chose 15 factors to evaluate the underground water environmental quality according to the National Underground Water Quality Standard. The comprehensive relating analysis theory was employed in the evaluation. The results show that the underground water environmental quality is generally good in Donggang district except for a few bad areas which are closely related to their regional hydrological conditions and the distribution of contaminant sources. This study provides a basic data set for selecting suitable methods in using and protecting the regional underground water resource.

Abstract: The present overhead network for Port-Harcourt city does no only present a shabby appearance and unreliable distribution system but unfit for the present demand in terms of bulk power transfer and telecommunication interference. Underground distribution network is primarily a matter of heat transfer from cable core where the heat is generated, through the cable insulation to the surrounding medium and finally is discharged from the surrounding medium. This study therefore presents the subsoil temperature at various periods of the year and at depth of 20, 50, 80 and 100cm. Ten locations were chosen in Port Harcourt City, and in each location the soil temperature was taken at the given depths within the months of March, September and November. These months represent different seasons of the year. The effective discharge of heat to the surrounding environment is due to the condition of the soil (moisture content, grain size etc.,). Therefore, soil resistivity test was also conducted. These results were analysed and the variation of temperature within the year at various depths were known. This will enable designers to calculate proper rating of underground cable laid at different depths.

Abstract: In this paper we outline the considerations required in order to select a target star system for the Icarus interstellar mission. It is considered that the maximum likely range for the Icarus vehicle will be 15 light-years, and a list is provided of all known stars within this distance range. As the scientific objectives of Icarus are weighted towards planetary science and astrobiology, a final choice of target star(s) cannot be made until we have a clearer understanding of the prevalence of planetary systems within 15 light-years of the Sun, and we summarize what is currently known regarding planetary systems within this volume. We stress that by the time an interstellar mission such as Icarus is actually undertaken, astronomical observations from the solar system will have provided this information. Finally, given the high proportion of multiple star systems within 15 light-years (including the closest of all stars to the Sun in the {\alpha} Centauri system), we stress that a flexible mission architecture, able to visit stars and accompanying planets within multiple systems, is desirable. This paper is a submission of the Project Icarus Study Group.

Abstract: Understanding human mobility patterns -- how people move in their everyday lives -- is an interdisciplinary research field. It is a question with roots back to the 19th century that has been dramatically revitalized with the recent increase in data availability. Models of human mobility often take the population distribution as a starting point. Another, sometimes more accurate, data source is land-use maps. In this paper, we discuss how the intra-city movement patterns, and consequently population distribution, can be predicted from such data sources. As a link between land use and mobility, we show that the purposes of people's trips are strongly correlated with the land use of the trip's origin and destination. We calibrate, validate and discuss our model using survey data.
Quantification of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Leafy and Underground Vegetables: A Case Study Around Panipat City, Haryana, India  [PDF]

Abstract: Food ingestion is the most important means of human exposure to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). The Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) were observed in all vegetables which is matter of great concern because diet is the major source of human exposure to PAHs and major dietary source of human are cereals and vegetables. Our main objective of investigation was to assess the concentration of individual PAHs compounds in leafy and underground vegetable samples. In the present study the PAHs concentrations were determined by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). All the samples were collected from 9 different agriculture fields around Panipat city, Haryana and PAHs concentration was identified in all the vegetables (leafy and underground) and soil (0-10 cm upper layer). The total PAHs concentration in leafy vegetables, underground vegetables and soil ranged from 31.86 to 85.55, 22.89 to 37.73 and 130.18 to 175.98 g kg-1 dry weight, respectively. The dominant PAHs in soil and vegetable samples were Naphthalene, Acenaphthylene, Fluorene, Phenanthrene, Anthracene, Fluoranthene and Pyrene. The concentration of lower-molecular weight PAHs compounds were found to be greater than higher molecular weight PAHs in all types of vegetables. Leafy vegetables are found to be more contaminated with higher concentration of PAHs as compared to underground vegetables.

Abstract: Kolhapur is developed city suffering from pollution problems. The water supply to Kolhapur city is mainly from river panchanganga but now a days river panchanganga is severely polluted hence water quality from KMC water supply is deteriorated. Due to short supply and pollution of water most of residents use bore well water as an alternate source. Hence the monitoring and analysis of water quality from bore well is very essential. To evaluate quality of bore well water the samples were collected from selected sites of various sectors as Urban, Industrial, Slum and Agricultural regularly from march 2005 to February 2006. The water samples analyzed for physico-chemical and bacteriological parameters, certain parameters are beyond the permissible limit recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) and Indian standard Institute (ISI).From the results present study reveals that most of the bore well water is of poor quality and it is unfit for drinking purpose.

Abstract: The present study was conducted to analyze the underground water of Faisalabad city Sector II to determine its suitability for domestic consumption owing the scarcity of municipal supply water. The water of all the selected areas have high values of chemical oxygen demand (COD) showing organic pollution. Areas along Narwala road especially Raza Abad, Gulshan colony, Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Chur Majra and Bole-di-Jhugi have very high values of chlorides and dissolved solids while the areas along Sargodha road have somewhat permissible results.

Abstract: In this study, we intend to make a brief analysis of some issues relating to the unfair terms within the contracts concluded in the banking activity by the credit institutions with the consumers. The contracts concluded by the credit institutions with the consumers are contracts containing pre-formulated standard terms, meaning that they are set out prior to the conclusion of the contract and submitted to the consumer, substantially reducing the possibility to negotiate them. On the other hand, due to the highly technical nature of the banking regulations and the terminology used by them, in the bank contracts there are several terms for whose understanding the consumer needs specialized knowledge. Precisely for this reason, the legislator regulates a number of conditions relating to the negotiation and conclusion of the contracts between the professionals and the consumers, as well as the identification and finding of the unfair terms within the contracts. At the same time, in the content of the bank contracts may also be identified certain terms that are part of the examples listed in the Appendix to the Law no. 193/2000.
