Revista de Biología Tropical , 2008,
Abstract: the floristic variations of shrub and tree components were studied in two sites of semideciduous forest, initial forest and mature forest, located in the mata do paraíso forest reserve, in vi?osa, state of minas gerais, southeastern brazil, in order to analyze the floristic similarity and the correlations between environmental variables and the distribution of tree species in these forests. individual trees with a diameter at breast height (dbh) ≥ 4.8 cm were sampled in twenty 10 x 30 m plots (10 plots in each site). the plots were distributed systematically at 10 m intervals. the environmental variables analyzed were: the canopy openness and soil chemical and texture characteristics. the two forest sites showed clear differences in the levels of canopy openness and soil fertility, factors that reflect the floristic and successional differences of the shrub and tree component, revealed by the low similarity between these forests by cluster analysis. the canonical correspondence analysis (cca) of environmental variables and species abundance indicated that the species in these forests studied are distributed under strong influence of canopy openness, moisture and soil fertility. rev. biol. trop. 56 (3): 15571569. epub 2008 september 30.

Abstract: The floristic variations of shrub and tree components were studied in two sites of Semideciduous Forest, initial forest and mature forest, located in the Mata do Paraíso Forest Reserve, in Vi osa, State of Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil, in order to analyze the floristic similarity and the correlations between environmental variables and the distribution of tree species in these forests.

Abstract: This work aimed at describing the Neoproterozoic evolution of a Southern Brasília Fold Belt segment, in Tapira area(southwest of Minas Gerais state, Brazil), using detailed geologic mapping. This area, the Canastra Group type-area, hasshowed great tectonic and stratigraphic complexities unlike the simplicity suggested in previous works. From recognizingthe main tectonic discontinuities, it was possible to subdivide the area into some domains. In the west domain, they wereindividualized in tectonic sheet I, marked by pelitic rocks and pelitic-graphite rocks with psammitic intercalations, and II,pelitic rocks with psammitic and mafic-ultramafic intercalations overlapped by gneisses. In the east domain, a group ofthree tectonic sheets was defined, in which, in the two lower tectonic sheets, pelitic and pelitic-graphite rocks with psammiticrock intercalations prevailed, which is different in metamorphic conditions. The lower tectonic sheet is marked bymineralogical associations with muscovite + chlorite + quartz ± graphite ± albite, without biotite; however, the superior oneis with muscovite + quartz + garnet ± chlorite ± biotite ± chloritoid ± graphite ± albite. In the upper tectonic sheet, peliticrocks with local contributions of psammitic and ultramafics rocks occur. In the south domain, psammitic rocks basically occur with contributions of pelitics and rudaceous rocks, where the preservation of textures and sedimentary structures is common.Rocks of the several domains are interpreted as part of a passive continental margin basin, located in the western margin of the S oFrancisco paleocontinent. Thus, the south domain rocks would represent the facies of proximal platform; rocks of the lower and middle tectonic sheets (east domain) and of the tectonic sheet I (west domain) are of facies distal platform; and the ones from the upper tectonic sheet (east domain) and tectonic sheet II (west domain) were acknowledged as deposited in an environment of continental shelf and/or oceanic seafloor.

Abstract: O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o estado nutricional de popula es de eucaliptos (Eucalyptus urophylla), om três anos de idade, plantadas em diferentes densidades, nos eguintes espa amentos: 3,0 m x 2,0 m,0; 3,0 m x 3,0 m; 3,0 m x ,0 m,0; 3,0 m x 5,0 m; 4,0 m x 2,25 m; 6,0 m x 1,5 m; 5,0 m x 1,8 ; e 9,0 m x 1,0 m. This study aimed to evaluate the mineral nutrition of three years old Eucalyptus urophylla plantations, grown in different population densities in the following spacings: 3.0 m x 2.0 m; 3.0 m x 3.0 m; 3.0 m x 4.0 m; 3.0 m x 5.0 m; 4.0 m x 2.25 m; 6.0 m x 1.5 m; 5.0 m x 1.8 m; and 9.0 m x 1.0 m. The experiment was carried out at Bocaiuva, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, and B leaf content was evaluated at seven sampling dates. The nutrient content varied with sampling date; N, P, and K lowest levels were found in the dry period. No interaction was observed between spacing and sampling date for Mg. Lowest Ca levels occurred in December, except for 9.0 m x 1.0 m spacing. Spacing did not influence N, P, S, and B content. Independently of spacing and sampling date, N, P, S, and B leaf content did not present levels considered as deficient. KEY-WORDS: Eucalyptus; mineral nutrition; population density; savannah.
