Abstract: the number of aids cases in men who have sex with men (msm) decreased in the initial years of the epidemic, but the percentage of cases in this group has remained unaltered in the last five years. this study, aimed to improve knowledge on the impact of aids in the daily lives of msm, was conducted in campo grande, mato grosso do sul state, brazil, using a questionnaire and interviews. the results show that msm perceive their vulnerability to hiv infection, referring to inconsistent condom use and multiple sex partners, given that 65% of homosexuals, 75% of bisexuals, and 33% of transvestites reported up to 5 partners in the previous month and emphasizing that 59% of the group reported more than 11 partners during the same period. the susceptibility of certain groups and the identification and understanding of their specificities pose a major challenge in any geographic context where such conditions are present.

Revista Brasileira de Epidemiologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-790X2011000300007
Abstract: introduction: unprotected anal sex (insertive or receptive) is an important risk factor for hiv infection and other stds. objetive: the objective was to investigate individual and social factors associated with unprotected anal sex among men who have sex with men (msm) that declared being hiv negative and engaged in anal sex with an hiv positive partner or of ignored serology. methods: this study is part of a survey among msm and among internet users, with data collected from an on line questionnaire in project site. the internet sample for this study was 487 msm. descriptive and stratified analyses were carried out and χ2 test was used. logistic regression was used for modeling the data. results: among the participants 30.8% referred unprotected anal sex in the previous 12 months with an hiv positive partner or partner with unknown serology. most of them belonged to higher social classes, were white and single. factors associated with unprotected anal sex were: number of partners (more than 3) in the previous 12 months (or=1.7; 95% ci 1.1-2.7), high or medium perception of risk to hiv/aids (or=2.7; 95% ci 1.5-3.6) and enjoy passive oral sex (or=0.3; 95% ci 0.2-0.8). conclusion: unprotected anal sex was a frequent practice among msm in this survey. the frequency to public bathrooms should be further explored as a risk factor for unprotected anal sex. it is important to further explore these findings in order to understand these relationships and the involvement in risky sexual practices for hiv infection among msm.

Abstract: this article is the result of an online ethnography about barebacking (intentional unprotected anal sex) in the brazilian scene, between the years 2004 and 2007. more specifically, it aims to discuss the practice of barebacking among hiv-positive men who have sex with men, considering the implications, meanings and conflicts lived by them since the moment they discover being hiv-positive after engaging in barebacking. for this article, we use narratives produced in open interviews in msn messenger after the creation of a webpage in orkut and the participation in communities about barebacking. stories of three men from different regions of brazil who practiced barebacking and underwent the process of seroconversion are analyzed. these brief stories highlight some tensions or ambiguities concerning pleasure and prohibitions associated with barebacking, including the feelings of freedom and guilt.

Abstract: this study aimed to evaluate the operative group as a preventive approach among men who have sex with men that use two public health services in the city of s?o paulo, brazil. one hundred volunteers were randomly allocated to two groups (intervention and control, with 50 each). all participants answered questionnaires in two phases: before the intervention and six months after its conclusion. effect was measured by comparing the groups for the following outcomes: median number of anal sex acts without condoms and responses from the participants to questions about hiv infection. 69 participants completed the study (34 in the prevention group and 35 in the control group). analysis showed a decrease in the number of unprotected anal sex acts (p = 0.029) and an increase in the number of answers favoring prevention in the intervention group. the results indicate that the study group was responsive to a safer sex operative group intervention. further research is necessary to evaluate the feasibility of this prevention approach as a public health strategy, including other social groups.

Abstract: this paper provides a discussion on sexual difference production processes with the study of two sexual education textbooks. my discussion is based on cultural and feminist studies, articulated with a post-structuralist perspective of analysis. meanings granted to homosexuality are discussed, in order to show some ways to reflect on how it is didactically possible to deconstruct and construct this sexual and gender-based identity in a positive way at school. the paper questions if respecting diversity can promote curricular inclusion. sexual representation and ways to ?deconstruct? its meanings are discussed, especially those about the kinds of people who establish sexual and affective relationships with people of the same sex. the deconstructive procedure can suggest ways to operate the sexual education pedagogic practice, at any teaching level.
