Lauria,Daniela;
Boletín de filología , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-93032011000100004
Abstract: since 1870, a prolific production of lexicographic instruments registering lexical singularities began in argentina. the awareness of this peculiarity led to the elaboration -thus following a hispanic american tradition- of complementary and contrastive dictionaries of different modalities. on the one hand, descriptive works were published that collected ruralisms, indigenisms, regionalisms (both americanisms and provincialisms, or localisms), and argentinianisms. on the other hand, some normative works emerged that collected barbarisms and censored their use, on account of their deviation from the peninsular spanish variety. this paper studies the relations among the different stages of the dictionarization process and several dictionary-making modalities. to this effect, we analyze those dictionaries that included the argentinian variety of the spanish language, published between 1870 and 1910, by taking into account two aspects: a) the different conditions of the dictionarization process; and b) some cuts of segments selected from several domains of the lexicographical discourse (paratext, macrostructure, microstructure). first, this study intends to demonstrate that the monolingual dictionary is a discursive, historical and ideological instrument. second, the analysis of the lexicographical discourse allows us to observe that these dictionaries operate for the construction of the national imaginary within the process of formation and consolidation of the modern national state.
Di Liscia,Maria Silvia;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232011000200005
Abstract: this paper studies the smallpox vaccination in argentina since 1870, when these discussions were inittiaded until the 1910s, when they were extended to the rest of the country. we analyze immunization practices implemented prior to the compulsory vaccination law, passed in 1886 for the capital and in 1904 for the rest of the country. such a move found resistance from different sectors. its approval depended on the consequences of modernization and urbanization, the weight of hygienists in the political arena, and its extension depended on a different administrative conception, incorporating new areas and sectors to the national scenario.
A fresh look at eta2(1645), eta2(1870), eta2(2030) and f2(1910) in pbar-p -> eta + 3pizero  [PDF]

Abstract: There is a large discrepancy between results of Crystal Barrel and WA102 for the branching ratio R = BR[eta2(1870)->a2(1320)pi]/ BR[eta2(1870)->f2(1270)eta]. An extensive re-analysis of the Crystal Barrel data redetermines branching ratios for decays of eta2(1870), eta2(1645), eta2(2030) and f2(1910). This re-analysis confirms a small value for R of 1.60+-0.39, inconsistent with the value 32.6+-12.6 of WA102. The likely origin of the discrepancy is that the WA102 data contain a strong f2(1910)->a2-pi signal as well as eta2(1870). There is strong evidence that the eta2(1870) has resonant phase variation. A peak in f2(1270)a0(980) confirms closely the parameters of the a2(2255) resonance observed previously. A peak in eta2(2030)-pi is interpreted naturally in terms of pi2(2245) with reduced errors for mass and width M=2285+-20(stat)+-25(syst) MeV, Gamma=250+-20(stat)+-25(syst) MeV.

Reverse Lexicographic and Lexicographic Shifting  [PDF]
Eric Babson,Isabella Novik,Rekha R. Thomas
Mathematics , 2005,
Abstract: A short new proof of the fact that all shifted complexes are fixed by reverse lexicographic shifting is given. A notion of lexicographic shifting, $\Delta_{\lex}$ -- an operation that transforms a monomial ideal of $S=\field[x_i: i\in\N]$ that is finitely generated in each degree into a squarefree strongly stable ideal -- is defined and studied. It is proved that (in contrast to the reverse lexicographic case) a squarefree strongly stable ideal $I\subset S$ is fixed by lexicographic shifting if and only if $I$ is a universal squarefree lexsegment ideal (abbreviated USLI) of $S$. Moreover, in the case when $I$ is finitely generated and is not a USLI, it is verified that all the ideals in the sequence $\{\Delta_{\lex}^i(I)\}_{i=0}^{\infty}$ are distinct. The limit ideal $\bar{\Delta}(I)=\lim_{i\to\infty}\Delta_{\lex}^i(I)$ is well defined and is a USLI that depends only on a certain analog of the Hilbert function of $I$.
