Abstract: the present communication reports the isolation and identification of three lignans from metanolic root extracts of strychnos guianensis (aublet) mart.: olivil (1), cycloolivil (2) and the unknown derivative cycloolivil carbonate (3). from hexane extracts was identified a long chain fatty acid mixture and the triterpene lupeol. the analyses were based on chromatographic and spectroscopy techniques (ir, ms, gc/ms, 1h-nmr and 13c-nmr, 1d (bb, dept 135) and 2d (1h, 1 h-cosy, 1h, 13c-cosy, 1h, 13c-cosy-lr, hmqc, hmbc and noesy) and comparison with literature data.

Abstract: this work describes the chemical study of two medicinal plants of the amazon philodendron scabrum k. krause (araceae) and vatairea guianensis aubl. (fabaceae). essential oils composition from stems of philodendron scabrum k. krause (araceae) and fruits of vatairea guianensis aubl. (fabaceae), respectively were analyzed in gc-fid and gc-ms. the major constituents from stems of p. scarabum were caryophyllene oxide (22.42%), α-copaene (16.08%) and β-bisabolene (12.01%) and from fruits of v. guianensis were (9z)-octadecenoic acid (24.95%) and docosahexenoic acid (24.17%). β-sitosterol and alkylresorcinol 1-hexadecanoyl-2,6-dihydroxybenzene were isolated from ethanolic extracts from stems of p. scabrum and from ethanolic extracts from fruits of v. guianensis, the athraquinones chrysophanol and physcion were isolated. the structure of isolated compounds we determinate wered based on data from 1h and 13c nmr, including two dimensional analyses and comparison with literature data.

Abstract: studies with genetic resources of native medicinal species will only be applied if their genetic material is safe regarding survival and availability. the aim of this study was to do a literature review adopting as criterion the choice of papers published in renowned national and international journals to allow better understanding on ethnobotanical, ecological and chemical aspects of an important medicinal and aromatic plant, siparuna guianensis aublet. since the latter has been considered one of the major species for the conservation of brazilian cerrado, studies on its propagation should be encouraged in order to make this genetic resource available to future generations.

Abstract: Siparuna guianensis Aublet, espécie que ocorre no cerrado, é usada na medicina popular para gripes, febres e dores no corpo e tem sido indicada como prioritária nos programas de conserva o de germoplasma. Dessa forma o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a propaga o da espécie a partir de estacas obtidas da parte aérea. O delineamento usado foi o inteiramente casualizado no esquema fatorial 5 x 2 (concentra es de AIB - 0, 500, 1000, 1500 e 2000 ppm e tipos de estaca - apical e subapical), em quatro repeti es de cinco estacas. Aos 90 dias, foram avaliadas as porcentagens de sobrevivência, de brota o, de folhas novas, de calos e de enraizamento. A maior sobrevivência e brota o de estacas apicais de S. guianensis é observada quando elas s o colocadas na concentra o de 500 ppm de AIB por 60 segundos. A forma o de calos e o enraizamento n o s o afetados pelo AIB. A propaga o de S. guianensis deve ser por estacas apicais prétratadas por 60 segundos com solu o de AIB a 500 ppm. Siparuna guianensis Aublet. occurs in the cerrado, is used in folk medicine for colds, fevers and pains in the body and has been indicated as a priority in germplasm conservation programs. The aim of this study was to assess the species propagation from shoot cuttings. The experimental design was made in randomized blocks in the factorial scheme 5x2 with five concentrations of IBA (0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm) and two types of cuttings (apical and subapical) with four replications of five cuttings. On the 90th day, survival, budding, new leaves, calluses and rooting percentages were evaluated. The greatest survival and apical cuttings budding of S. guianensis is observed when they are put in the concentration of 500 ppm IBA for 60 seconds. Calluses formation and rooting are not affected by IBA. S. guianensis propagation must be obtained by apical cuttings pre-treated for 60 seconds with IBA at 500 ppm.

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to chemically characterize and evaluate the antioxidant activity of essential oils Cinnamodendron dinisii Schwacke (pepper) and Siparuna guianensis Aublet (negramina). The essential oil was isolated by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger modified apparatus, and the identification and quantification of constituents, through GC/MS and GC-FID analysis. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using β-carotene/linoleic acid system and the DPPH radical sequestering method. In chromatographic analysis, the majority constituents found in the essential oil of C. dinisii were bicyclic monoterpenes, α-pinene (35.41%), β-pinene (17.81%), sabinene (12.01%) and sesquiterpene bicyclogermacrene (7.59%). In the essential oil of the fresh leaves of Siparuna guianensis Aublet, acyclic monoterpene, β-myrcene (13.14%), and sesquiterpenes, germacrene-D (8.68%) and bicyclogermacrene (16.71%) were identified. The antioxidant activity was low by the β-carotene/linoleic acid test and was not evidenced by the DPPH test, for both oils evaluated.

Abstract: this work describes the volatile composition obtained by hidrodistillation of fresh leaves of siparuna guianensis aublet collected from cuiabá (mt), brazil. the composition of dcm extract of hydrolate was determined by gc-ms analysis and the results showed that the specie present a range of components according to their phenology and period of the leaves were collects. the highest volatile components yield was obtained during the reproductive period and the principal compound was the siparunone.

Abstract: various factors affect spatial genetic structure in plant populations, including adult density and primary and secondary seed dispersal mechanisms. we evaluated pollen and seed dispersal distances and spatial genetic structure of carapa guianensis aublet. (meliaceae) in occasionally inundated and terra firme forest environments that differed in tree densities and secondary seed dispersal agents. we used parentage analysis to obtain contemporary gene flow estimates and assessed the spatial genetic structure of adults and juveniles. despite the higher density of adults (diameter at breast height ; 25 cm) and spatial aggregation in occasionally inundated forest, the average pollen dispersal distance was similar in both types of forest (195 ± 106min terra firme and 175 ± 87 m in occasionally inundated plots). higher seed flow rates (36.7% of juveniles were from outside the plot) and distances (155 ± 84 m) were found in terra firme compared to the occasionally inundated plot (25.4% and 114 ± 69 m). there was a weak spatial genetic structure in juveniles and in terra firme adults. these results indicate that inundation may not have had a significant role in seed dispersal in the occasionally inundated plot, probably because of the higher levels of seedling mortality.
Genotoxic assessment of the Carapa guianensis Aublet seed oleaginous extract in Balb/c mice micronucleus assay  [PDF]

Abstract: The seed oil extract of Carapa guianensis has various biomedical applications. Recently was evaluated expressing great potential as in vivo antioxidant assays. The aimed of this study was to evaluate the genotoxic potential of the seed oil Carapa guianensis extract in the micronucleus assay of bone marrow cells in Balb/c mice. We were formed 5 experimental groups. A placebo group (Tween 65, 2%), three dose levels of the extract (400, 1 000 and 2 000 mg/kg) administered orally for 14 days. Finally a positive control group treated with cyclophosphamide (CF), at a dose of 50 mg/kg intraperitoneally 48 and 24 h before euthanasia. Were administered 5 animals/sex/group. After 14 days of dosing the animals were euthanized by cervical dislocation and the bone marrow of femur was extracted to proceed with the micronucleus cytogenetic technique. The results between controls and treated with the extract did not differ for the two sexes in the cytotoxicity index (PE/NE) and the PE percent with micronucleus as genotoxicity index. However the controls and treated with the extract were differed from the group treated with CF, validating our results. We conclude that the oleaginous extract of the Carapa guianensis seeds has not genotoxic potential in the formation of micronucleus in Balb/c mice bone marrow of both sexes.

Abstract: Con el propósito de identificar en el medio natural, los primeros estadíos de crecimiento de las plántulas de U a de Gato , bejucos trepadores con valor medicinal representativos del Bosque Nacional Alexander Von Humboldt se describen las plántulas de Uncaria tomentosa (Willdernow ex Roemer & Schultes) D.C. y U. guianensis (Aublet) Gmelin obtenidas mediante germinación en vivero semidescubierto. Entre otros caracteres observados, útiles para el reconocimiento taxonómico, se tienen las modalidades de germinación, estructura y organización de los cotiledones, del hipocótilo y el epicótilo, complementados en la descripción de los protófilos y metáfilos.
