The Specificity of the National Identity in the Epoch of Globalization
Anatol Liahchylin, Tatsiana Astrouskaya
Limes. Cultural Regionalistics , 2008, DOI: 10.3846/2029-0187.2008.1.108-112
Abstract: This article is devoted to the analysis of the national identity in the epoch of globalization. With the impact of globalization things and relations have changed rapidly. The authors try to show that the same situation happened to the national identity, the borders of which are becoming more and more flexible and movable. This situation can be used for the purpose of the renaissance of the national identity. However, it is possible only in the way of the combination of support from the state with realization by every nation of its own specificity and singularity.
Simple-minded systems in stable module categories  [PDF]
Steffen Koenig,Yuming Liu
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: Simple-minded systems in stable module categories are defined by orthogonality and generating properties so that the images of the simple modules under a stable equivalence form such a system. Simple-minded systems are shown to be invariant under stable equivalences; thus the set of all simple-minded systems is an invariant of a stable module category. The simple-minded systems of several classes of algebras are described and connections to the Auslander-Reiten conjecture are pointed out.
Defining Identity in the Context of Globalization  [PDF]
Silviu Coposescu
Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Bra?ov. Series VII : Social Sciences and Law , 2009,
Abstract: The paper focuses on problems of individual and social identity-construction in the context of globalization. The author analyses the concept of identity from modernity and post-modernity perspectives. As a conclusion the author claims that a new approach strategy of defining and interpreting the epoch of globalization is necessary in order to explain and understand the social changes at local, regional and world levels.
SWITCHING FROM THE GLOBALIZATION OF MARKETS TO THE GLOBALIZATION OF PRODUCTION AND SERVICES IN A SEMIGLOBALIZED WORLD
Serghei M RGULESCU,Elena M RGULESCU
Lex et Scientia , 2009,
Abstract: The retrospective of the theoretical approaches of the phenomenon of economic globalization in the last three decades emphasizes the movement of attention from the globalization of markets, from the'80s, to the globalization of production and services in the current decade. This trend is essentially the result of implementing new strategies by multinational companies. It also requires accepting the idea that the current status of the world economy is in reality one of semiglobalization and not of complete globalization. We try in this context to draw a line between the "globalization of markets" and the "globalization of production and services" and to adjust the typology of multinational companies to these realities. A feature of the globalization of production and services is the implementation of the arbitrage strategy in respect of one or more production factors. But the "globalization of production and services’ gains a new content due to the new possibilities offered by the “modularization” of production. Following, the arbitrage strategies began to address new factors, as for example the "functions" of production resulting from the restructuring of the value chain of a "product" in its broadest sense (from conception to postsales analysis). We believe that, in the context of the emergence and development of the globalization of production and services, it is the time to define a new category of world economy players, the category of the “globally integrated company / business ". Within this new framework, the company strategies acquire features that exceed the classic approach and have to be thatfore analyzed distinctively.
Revenue Optimal Auction for Single-Minded Buyers  [PDF]
Vineet Abhishek,Bruce Hajek
Computer Science , 2010,
Abstract: We study the problem of characterizing revenue optimal auctions for single-minded buyers. Each buyer is interested only in a specific bundle of items and has a value for the same. Both his bundle and its value are his private information. The bundles that buyers are interested in and their corresponding values are assumed to be realized from known probability distributions independent across the buyers. We identify revenue optimal auctions with a simple structure, if the conditional distribution of any buyer's valuation is nondecreasing, in the hazard rates ordering of probability distributions, as a function of the bundle the buyer is interested in. The revenue optimal auction is given by the solution of a maximum weight independent set problem. We provide a novel graphical construction of the weights and highlight important properties of the resulting auction.

Some anthropological aspects of globalization  [PDF]
?uri? Jelena B.
Filozofija i Dru?tvo , 2002, DOI: 10.2298/fid0209103d
Abstract: Awareness about the role of anthropological perspective places each anthropological research within the context of globalization, pointing at the need for making the difference between concepts of globalization as the description and as the political project. This differentiation represents a frame of the research of globalization phenomena in order to understand their influence on concrete people in a concrete situation. The importance of the role of concepts in ubiquitous transformation of human lives is also confirmed in the paper. This is the way the influence of one culture unfolds through the dominant concepts, the culture which symbolically and normatively imposes itself as 'global' in spite of the fact that it is 'local' not only (and/or not any more) in territorial sense but in its materialistic approach to the values. Hence, horizontal communication (globally available via the internet) could serve to the communication of values as crucial spiritual points. It could contribute not only to the widening of cultural circles, but to the evolution of consciousness about the generalization of values up to the universal. This requires transcending of particular interests, which prevent effective conceptualization of the global anthropological meaning.
An Optimal Multi-Unit Combinatorial Procurement Auction with Single Minded Bidders  [PDF]
Sujit Gujar,Y Narahari
Computer Science , 2009,
Abstract: The current art in optimal combinatorial auctions is limited to handling the case of single units of multiple items, with each bidder bidding on exactly one bundle (single minded bidders). This paper extends the current art by proposing an optimal auction for procuring multiple units of multiple items when the bidders are single minded. The auction minimizes the cost of procurement while satisfying Bayesian incentive compatibility and interim individual rationality. Under appropriate regularity conditions, this optimal auction also satisfies dominant strategy incentive compatibility.
The Epoch of Reionization  [PDF]
Saleem Zaroubi
Physics , 2012, DOI: 10.1007/978-3-642-32362-1_2
Abstract: The Universe's dark ages end with the formation of the first generation of galaxies. These objects start emitting ultraviolet radiation that carves out ionized regions around them. After a sufficient number of ionizing sources have formed, the ionized fraction of the gas in the Universe rapidly increases until hydrogen becomes fully ionized. This period, during which the cosmic gas went from neutral to ionized, is known as the Universe's Epoch of Reionization . The Epoch of Reionization is related to many fundamental questions in cosmology, such as properties of the first galaxies, physics of (mini-)quasars, formation of very metal-poor stars and a slew of other important research topics in astrophysics. Hence uncovering it will have far reaching implications on the study of structure formation in the early Universe. This chapter reviews the current observational evidence for the occurrence of this epoch, its key theoretical aspects and main characteristics, and finally the various observational probes that promise to uncover it. A special emphasis is put on the redshifted 21 cm probe, the various experiments that are currently being either built or designed, and what we can learn from them about the Epoch of Reionization.
“An Analysis of Globalization and Higher Education in Malaysia”  [PDF]
Anantha Raj A. Arokiasamy
Australian Journal of Business and Management Research , 2011,
Abstract: This study aims to examine the impact of globalization on private higher education in Malaysia. The impact of globalization and the development of knowledge-based economy have caused much dramatic change to the character and functions of higher education in Malaysia. The major trend is the reforming and restructuring of private higher education in Malaysia to make it more competitive globally. If Malaysia is serious in turning into an “education hub”, strategies and policies have to be in place to attract international students to study with a local university with international standards.
