Abstract: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become indispensable to the realization of smart homes. The objective of this paper is to develop such a WSN that can be used to construct smart home systems. The focus is on the design and implementation of the wireless sensor node and the coordinator based on ZigBee technology. A monitoring system is built by taking advantage of the GPRS network. To support multi-hop communications, an improved routing algorithm based on the Dijkstra algorithm is presented. Preliminary simulations have been conducted to evaluate the performance of the algorithm.

Abstract: Wireless Sensors Network is a novel field shows tremendous application potential. To monitor the environmental parameters of high-tech polyhouse the Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) is developed. The heart of this ubiquitous field is the Wireless Sensor Node. Moreover, the field of microcontroller based embedded technology is innovative and more reliable. Therefore, based on an embedded technology and the RF module Zigbee a wireless senor node is designed about highly promising AVR ATmega8L microcontroller and implemented for WSN development. Recently, the modern agriculturists are demanding sophisticated instrumentation for measurement and control of environmental parameters of the polyhouse. To enhance crop yield one has to provide controlled environment to the crop. The humidity is important parameter, which plays vital role on the crop yield. Therefore, a Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) is designed and implemented for monitoring of humidity of polyhouse and the results of implementation are interpreted in this paper.

Abstract: Background: Human life can be further improved if diseases and disorders can be predicted before they become dangerous, by correctly recognizing signals from the human body, so in order to make disease detection more precise, various body-signals need to be measured simultaneously in a synchronized manner. Object: This research aims at developing an integrated system for measuring four signals (EEG, ECG, respiration, and PPG) and simultaneously producing synchronous signals on a Wireless Body Sensor Network. Design: We designed and implemented a platform for multiple bio-signals using Bluetooth communication. Results: First, we developed a prototype board and verified the signals from the sensor platform using frequency responses and quantities. Next, we designed and implemented a lightweight, ultra-compact, low cost, low power-consumption Printed Circuit Board. Conclusion: A synchronous multi-body sensor platform is expected to be very useful in telemedicine and emergency rescue scenarios. Furthermore, this system is expected to be able to analyze the mutual effects among body signals.

Abstract: Video surveillance system, which can provide real-time display of the monitored scene and video playback, has been employed in many areas including commercial security, accident investigation, law enforcement, and emergency response. However, audio which carries important information not available in video is usually not taken seriously and used effectively. In this paper, we develop an enhanced surveillance platform by organically integrating the low-power wireless audio sensor network (WASN) with the traditional visual surveillance network. We can obtain more comprehensive and precise monitoring without the limitation of the line-of-sight and lighting condition. Moreover, this platform is designed and built for providing key support to varieties of applications in wireless multimedia sensor networks. This paper describes the platform architecture, including design, implementation, and performance. We describe the hardware and software components of the audio/video sensors. Then, we present the multimedia synchronization mechanism in the heterogeneous network which is the foundation of applications in the proposed platform. Besides, we describe a sample application and data management mechanism that we have implemented to show the usefulness of our platform. Our experiments include an in-depth analysis of the bottlenecks within the platform as well as measurements for the various components.

Abstract: This paper describes the design, implementation, and testing of a wireless sensor and actuator network for monitoring the energy use of electric appliances in a home environment. The network includes energy measurement nodes and a central server, where the nodes read the energy use of connected appliance, and wirelessly report their readings to the central server for processing. The server displays the readings from these nodes via a user visual interface in real time. Through this system, users can easily understand their electricity usage patterns and adapt their behavior to reduce their energy consumption and costs. Moreover, users are able to remotely power on/off individual devices to actively control the power use of certain appliances. The system allows for inexpensive monitoring of home energy use and illustrates a practical way to control the energy consumption through user interaction.

Abstract: The proposed remote water-level monitoring system (RWMS) consists of a field sensor module, a base station module, adata center module and aWEB releasing module. It has advantages in real time and synchronized remote control, expandability, and anti-jamming capabilities. The RWMS can realize real-time remote monitoring, providing early warning of events and protection of the safety of monitoring personnel under certain dangerous circumstances. This system has been successfully applied in Poyanghu Lake. The cost of the whole system is approximately 1,500 yuan (RMB).

Abstract: An embedded gateway of wireless sensor network was designed, and a management and query mode was proposed. This gateway took microprocessor AT91ARM9200 as the core chip, GoAhead Web Server as the embedded Web Server, and Sqlite as the embedded database. The interaction between Web server and Web browser was implemented through Common Gateway Interface (CGI). The reception and analysis of serial data were made with C program. This gateway has many advantages such as high efficiency of data-collection, high running-speed, and high credibility. It can manage and store the sensor network data effectively, therefore, achieving the remote query and supervision of the data in the wireless sensor network.

Abstract: A fundmental structure of the universal wireless sensor network node device was proposed in this paper by summarizing the principle of the wireless sensor network node. And a wireless sensor network node device was implemented based on the ultralow power comsumption processor Atmega128 and the radio frequency chip CC2420. This node device could do power monioring itself. It also could be used in many condition by exchange the data collection circuit which was connected to the universal hardware interface. Software modularlzation design was used in this paper and finit state machine was used to finish the system mode scheduling. An adapt-layer software was designed and implemented, which could both run by itself and by the embeded operating system. The technical feasibility of this design and the availability of the device were also verified in this paper by the multi-node temperature collect and feedback control tests and the static life cycle test of this device.
