For the common passenger flow congestion problems in urban rail transit system during peak periods, this study took the Kecun station of Guangzhou subway as an example to investigate for this station passenger flow congestion control methods based on system dynamics. The system dynamics model of Kecun station was developed to simulate station status and deduce the passenger flow distribution. The dynamic changes in the facilities of the station and the key causes of the current position and the traffic congestion were identified. According to simulation results, the passengers flow congestion control plan was designed, and then the final passenger control program was determined through the selection and verified through a series of simulations. The results show that simulation modeling based on the “flow” has a certain validity in the study of traffic congestion control program

Information Technology Journal , 2013,
Abstract: The passenger train sets is the carrier of railway passenger transport production and reasonable use of the passenger train sets is one of the key goals of railway transportation plan. In order to improve the operation efficiency of passenger train sets, optimization model of railway passenger train sets assignment have been built to minimize the non-production staying time of passenger train sets at passenger station based on established train diagram and established configuration of train sets system. On that basis, considering that the parameters of simulated Annealing Algorithm (SA) directly affect the efficiency and precision of solving, SA parameters is optimized based on nested partitions, then improved simulated annealing algorithm (ISA) is designed to solve this model. Finally, a case study has been carried out taking Zhengzhou railway station of china as an example in order to testify validity of this model and its algorithm by using calculating and comparing analysis and further solved practical problems is analyzed. The results show that the number of passenger train sets required and carriage staying time at passenger station are reduced and this model and its algorithm can be used to optimize railway passenger train sets assignment to improve efficiency of railway passenger train sets assignment.

Demand Functions for Services of Public Railway Passenger Transportation: An Empirical Analysis for Slovenia
Jani Beko
Managing Global Transitions , 2003,
Abstract: The paper deals with the estimation of demand functions for services of public railway passenger transportation in the case of Slovenia. Six demand functions were selected and separately interpreted. The aggregate values of demand elasticities reported in this paper suggest that the railway passenger demand is price and income inelastic. Coefficients of income elasticity below unity show that the services of railway passenger transportation in Slovenia can be classified among normal goods. A hypothetical increase in average real fares leads to a percentage decrease in the number of passengers travelling by rail that is smaller than the percentage increase in fares. The estimated price elasticities imply that, in the short run, there is potential for improving revenues of the railway operator by increasing average real fares.

Journal of Computers , 2009, DOI: 10.4304/jcp.4.3.265-270
Abstract: The evaluation of quality of the railway passenger service is an important way to know the quality of the railway passenger service. This paper firstly constructs an evaluation indicator system of the quality of the railway passenger service on the foundation of the related literatures, and constructs the multiple-attribute evaluation matrix and indicator weight vector based on the linguistic variables. Then the linguistic variables are transformed to triangular fuzzy numbers, and the priority relation based on the evaluation of the “common rule” is constructed using the improved PROMETHEE-II method. Then the fuzzy positive flux, fuzzy negative flux and fuzzy net flux are calculated. According to the triangular fuzzy number expected value of the net flux, the order of the projects is confirmed. Finally, the evaluation model is used to the evaluation of passenger service quality of three railway station of Ji’nan railway Administration. The application instance shows that this method is easy to use and can be used widely.

Journal of Computer and Communications (JCC) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/jcc.2019.77023
This paper chooses passenger flow data of some stations in China from January 2015 to March 2016, and the time series prediction model of BP neural network for railway passenger flow is established. But because of its slow convergence speed and easily falling into local optimal solution of the problem, we propose to improve the time series model of BP neural network by genetic algorithm to predict railway passenger flow. Experimental results show that the improved method has higher prediction accuracy and better nonlinear fitting ability.
Study on the Train Operation Optimization of Passenger Dedicated Lines Based on Satisfaction  [PDF]

Discrete Dynamics in Nature and Society , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/451201
Abstract: The passenger transport demands at a given junction station fluctuate obviously in different time periods, which makes the rail departments unable to establish an even train operation schedule. This paper considers an optimization problem for train operations at the junction station in passenger dedicated lines. A satisfaction function of passengers is constructed by means of analyzing the satisfaction characteristics and correlative influencing factors. Through discussing the passengers’ travel choice behavior, we formulate an optimization model based on maximum passenger satisfaction for the junction and then design a heuristic algorithm. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the application of the method proposed in this paper. 1. Introduction In passenger dedicated lines, passenger trains feature high-speed, high-density, and small train-unit, and the characteristics of passenger transport demands are similar to those of city bus passenger demands. Therefore, train operations in passenger dedicated lines need to be designed differently from the cases in other lines. In particular, train operations at junction stations must be schemed based on the changing of passenger demands. Many scholars had studied the train plan problem in passenger dedicated lines. Crisalli presented a system of within-day dynamic railway service choice and assignment models, which were used as a large decision support system for the operational planning of rail services [1]. Salido and Barber presented a set of heuristics for a constraint-based train scheduling tool to formulate train scheduling as constraint optimization problems [2]. Freling et al. introduced the problem of shunting passenger train units in a railway station. Shunting occurs whenever train units are temporarily not necessary to operate a given timetable [3]. Some other scholars noticed that passenger flows were much uneven in different time-periods in everyday, so they studied the dynamic feature of passenger flows. Niu presented a matching problem between skip-stop operations and time-dependent demands in city headways, and formulated a nonlinear programming model which minimized the overall waiting time and in-vehicle crowding costs [4]. Jha et al. studied the alternative travel choices which were evaluated by a disutility function of perceived travel time and perceived schedule delay, and formulated a Bayesian updating model to optimize an alternative scheme [5]. He et al. presented a fuzzy dispatching model to assist the coordination among multiobjective decisions in railway

Abstract: In order to find a method which can describe the passenger flow dynamical distribution of urban mass transit during interval interrupted operation, an urban railway network topology model was built based on the travel path dual graph by considering interchange, crowd and congestion. The breadth first valid travel path search algorithm is proposed, and the multipath passenger flow distribution logit model is improved. According to the characteristics of passengers under the interruption condition, the distribution rules of different types of passenger flow are proposed. The method of calculating the aggregation number of station is proposed for the case of insufficient transport capacity. Finally, the passenger flow of Beijing urban mass transit is simulated for the case study. The results show that the relative error of most of transfer passenger flow is below 10%. The proposed model and algorithm can accurately assign the daily passenger flow, which provides a theoretical basis for urban mass transit emergency management and decision.

International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering , 2012,
Abstract: Passenger rail transport market share has been drastically reduced in the last fifty years. The reforms were aimed at opening the market of railway services and development of competition in the railway sector in order to obtain the benefits of “market forces” and reduction of interventions in the railway sector. Determination of the level of reform often causes confusion and conflicting opinions. It involves the application of intuition and subjective assessments and is not used as a direct method of research, but as a summary of methods of reasoning on the current position. This suggests that it is appropriate to use the theory of fuzzy logic to evaluate the level of railway reform. Fuzzy model calculates the level of evaluation railway liberalization as a output variable where inputs are defined as: the dynamics of execution; number of reform steps taken; the implementation of transport policy; etc. The evaluation of the level of liberalization of the railway market and railway reforms is an important process which shows in which stage the countries are. Synchronization of reform level is very important for countries in the region to establish a stable transport market.
