Abstract: Traditionally, the teaching of history course mostly utilizes face to face instruction and oral presentation. Along with the development of educational technology, the teaching methods could be more various such as using internet and multimedia. Literature reviews also indicate that using internet and multimedia may improve the effect of learning and teaching. This paper explores the development of a web-based instructional system for the course of Taiwanese History at Shih Hsin University.The result and the product of this development project is the web site, http://distance.shu.edu.tw/taiwan/list.htm. The content of the web-site includes instructional materials such as animations, videos, pictures, texts, historical maps, and so on. The developmental methods used in this project use curriculum design, survey, interview, review of literatures and focus group discussion.[Article content in Chinese]

Abstract: Automatic image annotation is one of the most challenging problems in machine vision areas. The goal of this task is to predict number of keywords automatically for images captured in real data. Many methods are based on visual features in order to calculate similarities between image samples. But the computation cost of these approaches is very high. These methods require many training samples to be stored in memory. To lessen this burden, a number of techniques have been developed to reduce the number of features in a dataset. Manifold learning is a popular approach to nonlinear dimensionality reduction. In this paper, we investigate Diffusion maps manifold learning method for web image auto-annotation task. Diffusion maps manifold learning method is used to reduce the dimension of some visual features. Extensive experiments and analysis on NUS-WIDE-LITE web image dataset with different visual features show how this manifold learning dimensionality reduction method can be applied effectively to image annotation.

Abstract: Rationale and features of collaborative learning and a CALL website construction is discussed to verify the validity of the application of collaborative learning in foreign language teaching. It shows that collaborative learning can effectively promote learners to communicate with others and enhance their abilities to solve problems with the support to group members. Thus it can improve the development of creative thinking and train lifelong learning skills.

Abstract: M-learning web based applications are a particular case of web applications designed to be operated from mobile devices. Also, their purpose is to implement learning aspects. Project management of such applications takes into account the identified peculiarities. M-learning web based application characteristics are identified. M-learning functionality covers the needs of an educational process. Development is described taking into account the mobile web and its influences over the analysis, design, construction and testing phases. Activities building up a work breakdown structure for development of m-learning web based applications are presented. Project monitoring and control techniques are proposed. Abstract: Recently many research efforts have been devoted to image annotation by leveraging on the associated tags/keywords of web images as training labels. A key issue to resolve is the relatively low accuracy of the tags. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-automatic framework to construct a more accurate and effective training set from these web media resources for each label that we want to learn. Experiments conducted on a real-world dataset demonstrate that the constructed training set can result in higher accuracy for image annotation.

Abstract: The prototype in this paper presents a semantic web application that is inspired from psychology experiments on human learning and natural language processing. It aims at improving the proficiency of present search engines when dealing with specific queries (question-answering). The prototype makes use of the idea that the world wide web itself contains an enormous number of documents written in natural language (appearing in formats such as .html, .xml, .cfm, .pdf, .net, .asp etc.). It is consistently trained to improve its language proficiency by extracting knowledge from these documents and by storing redundant information in a database (i.e. information dealing with the same concept but expressed in different words).

Abstract: Educational Technology is constantly evolving and growing, and this progression will continually offer new and interesting advances in our learning environment. Traditional E-Learning systems developed for laptop and desktop computers were based on stand-alone software application or through websites and lack the ability to provide a comprehensive ubiquitous learning environment. A ubiquitous learning environment based on early days mobile phones lack the processing power of notebooks or desktop computers, low data transfer speeds and capacity. However, the ability to provide a comprehensive ubiquitous learning environment on the 3G (3rd Generation) mobile device will offer powerful collaborative and interactive learning opportunities.Thus the main objective of the research work is to develop an nteractive mobile learning application based on Web Services inAndroid base mobile devices to facilitate the ubiquitous learning. Abstract: This article describes the accurateness of our application namely Self-Developed Aesthetics Measurement Application (SDA) in measuring the aesthetics aspect by comparing the results of our application and users' perceptions in measuring the aesthetics of the web page interfaces. For this research, the positions of objects, images element and texts element are defined as objects in a web page interface. Mandarin learning web pages are used in this research. These learning web pages comprised of main pages, learning pages and exercise pages, on the first author's E-portfolio web site. The objects of the web pages were manipulated in order to produce the desired aesthetic values. The six aesthetics related elements used are balance, equilibrium, symmetry, sequence, rhythm, as well as order and complexity. Results from the research showed that the ranking of the aesthetics values of the web page interfaces measured of the users were congruent with the expected perceptions of our designed Mandarin learning web page interfaces (reported also in [18]). Thus, it implies that the subjectivity of aesthetics can be measured in an objective manner. For further understanding on our effort in doing aesthetics measurement, we discussed in details the object modelling used as well as the process in developing this application. We also explained the steps on how to run our application. Additionally, the strength and the weakness of our SDA application shared in this paper suggest that there is still room for the improvement for aesthetics measurement.

Abstract: The Semantic Web is an extension of the current web in which information is given well-defined meaning. The perspective of Semantic Web is to promote the quality and intelligence of the current web by changing its contents into machine understandable form. Therefore, semantic level information is one of the cornerstones of the Semantic Web. The process of adding semantic metadata to web resources is called Semantic Annotation. There are many obstacles against the Semantic Annotation, such as multilinguality, scalability, and issues which are related to diversity and inconsistency in content of different web pages. Due to the wide range of domains and the dynamic environments that the Semantic Annotation systems must be performed on, the problem of automating annotation process is one of the significant challenges in this domain. To overcome this problem, different machine learning approaches such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning and more recent ones like, semi-supervised learning and active learning have been utilized. In this paper we present an inclusive layered classification of Semantic Annotation challenges and discuss the most important issues in this field. Also, we review and analyze machine learning applications for solving semantic annotation problems. For this goal, the article tries to closely study and categorize related researches for better understanding and to reach a framework that can map machine learning techniques into the Semantic Annotation challenges and requirements.

Abstract: To build domain ontology is an important part of ontology research and application areas. hhis paper proposed the process and algorithm of automatic construction of ontologies with data mining and machine learning technologies for web information resources. During the procedure of ontology construction, this paper firstly presented the process and algorithm of concepts classification with muti classifiers based on Bayes classification principle, then discussed the algorithms of concepts-associated analysis and concept self-learning to build the ontology prototype, whereafter presented ontology transforming mechanism from ontology prototype to OWL ontology. This paper also proposed a whole system solution from mining web pages, building domain ontology to the end of ontology application.
