Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano , 2008,
Abstract: The anthropometric characteristics of athletes can determine their sporting performance. For this reason, we’ve defined the somatotype of young volleyball players in order to be able to control their sports training and to ensure their appropriate athletic development. In the present investigation 154 male and female volleyball players (aged from 12 to 14 years) were analyzed. Data were collected according to the ISAK protocol. The results show an endomesomorphic profile for male and female volleyball players agreeing with the predominant profile at these ages. However, after comparing these data with results obtained in other studies, we observed a certain homogeneity in the male somatotype, invalidating the current trend of using this parameter as criteria to select young sports talent. However, somatotype could be a factor to take into account with female athletes, since their profile is much more heterogeneous.

Abstract: The ecological cultivation of reserve talents in competitive sports is the key link in the ecological transformation of the development mode of competitive sports and the basic guarantee for the construction of a sports power. By mainly using literature review and logical analysis, from the perspective of ecological system structure, China's competitive sports reserve personnel training were analyzed and discussed in this study. The research showed that the ecological reserve personnel training system must have a benign structure and highly coupled and synergistic components and elements; disorderly development in space and time dimension, separation of framework and operation structure, and dualistic opposition structure are the structural crux of the current competitive reserve personnel training system in China; the "pluralistic" structure of reserve personnel training in competitive sports has the characteristics of "three-dimensional", "infiltration" and "blending", which is the basis of ecological development of the reserve personnel training system; by establishing the concept of ecological training, perfecting the leading function of the government, basing on the overall situation, taking into account the overall situation, optimizing and integrating the training elements of reserve talents, we can promote the ecological structure of the training system of competitive reserve talents. This study hoped to provide valuable reference for improving the ecological effect of talent training system and the ecological development of competitive sports

The Olympics and harm reduction?
Bengt Kayser, Barbara Broers
Harm Reduction Journal , 2012, DOI: 10.1186/1477-7517-9-33
Abstract: The Olympic buzz is mounting and we can expect multiple headlines in the media on doping and anti-doping stories related to this event. In this article we describe current anti-doping policy, reflect on its multiple unplanned consequences, and end with a discussion, if lessons learned from harm reduction experiences in the illicit drugs field could be applied to anti-doping.Early this year the unveiling of the brand new 2012 London Olympics anti-doping lab made the headlines worldwide, accompanied by strong anti-doping messages for prospective Olympians and illustrated by an iconic photograph depicting the laboratory’s head showing a blood sample to the Minister for Sports and the Olympics (Figure 1). The 4’400?m2 laboratory, sponsored by a multinational pharmaceutical company, will be operating 24?h/day during the Games, analysing urine and blood samples of one out of two participating athletes while a part of the samples will be stored for eight years, using the threat of future testing technology as a further deterrent. With the Olympic buzz mounting and the Games monopolizing the media, the moment seems right for debate on drugs and sports among those concerned by drug policymaking and the harm reduction movement in specific. But you may ask yourself: What have the Olympic Games to do with harm reduction? More than you might think. The Olympic movement was the driving force behind the anti-doping efforts that led to the establishment of the World Anti-Doping Agency in 1999. A series of widely publicized doping scandals and public outrage in the nineties triggered this increasingly strong movement advocating doping-free sports. WADA aims at eradicating doping by harmonizing anti-doping practices worldwide from a zero-tolerance standpoint. It is backed by the UNESCO anti-doping convention, now signed by a majority of UN member states. These anti-doping efforts were recently dubbed ‘war on doping’ [1], echoing the declaration of the ‘war on drugs’ by president Nixon

The Social Sciences , 2013, DOI: 10.3923/sscience.2010.149.151
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of school sports on sports development in Borno State of Nigeria as perceived by gender. Sports development in this respect was examined using the following variables: facility, personnel, funding, training programme, competitions, sports policy and encouragement of talents for sports. To achieve the purpose of this study a standardized questionnaire was administered by the researchers to the respondents which included; students, athletes, games-masters, game mistresses, physical education teachers, principals of secondary schools, coaches in the sports council, zonal sports coordinators and directors of sports in Borno State. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was established using Guffman split half technique, a result of 0.82 r was obtained. Data collected was analysed using two tailed t-test inferential statistics. The findings of this study revealed no significant differences between male and female respondents in all the aspects of sports development with the exception of encouragement of talents for sports. In other words, encouragement of talents was promoted at the expense of other aspects of sports development. It is therefore, recommended that the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) at the state level should devise a means for the development of other aspects of sports development such as the provision of standard facilities, qualified personnel, adequate funding, training programme, competitions as well as an effective school sports policy that can accommodate the needs, interests and aspirations of the participants.
