The role of women in construction research
Gómez, A.,Arrizabalaga, E.,Sánchez, B.
Materiales de Construccion , 2010,
Abstract: Equal participation of women and men in industrial research is still a major challenge for the European Union. In most European countries, female graduates proportionately outnumber male graduates. However, scientific research and technological development remain male-dominated, especially in industry. Construction is one of the most important industrial sectors in terms of economic growth and employmet, but very little is known about the role of women in construction research and the factors that are hindering a more equal presence of women and men. As result of an extensive field work undertaken at European level, this paper offers a picture of the current situation of women in construction research that shows evidences of important inequalities. This work has allowed the development of recommendations for empowering women in construction research, addressing the opportunities for moving towards gender equality in this field. To invest in human capital for research is seen as an outstanding necessity within construction sector, and both women and men should fully develop their potential.

This study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of daily versus two different intermittent iron supplementation regimes on hematologic markers and birth outcomes in nonanemic pregnant women. Methods: Two hundred and ten women with singleton pregnancies, no known disease, and hemoglobin levels >11.0 g/dL were randomly assigned to one of three groups, ie, Group A consuming two iron supplementation tablets once weekly (100 mg iron per week, n = 70), Group B consuming one tablet twice weekly (100 mg iron per week, n = 70) and Group C, consuming one tablet daily (50 mg iron per day, n = 70). No additional micronutrients were supplied. Hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels were measured at 20, 28, and 38 weeks. Pregnancy and birth outcomes (pregnancy termination, method of delivery, birth weight, stillbirth) were analyzed. Results: In total, 201 women completed the protocol. There was a significant difference in mean hemoglobin and ferritin levels in Group B at 38 weeks (P = 0.018 and P = 0.035, respectively) but this difference was not clinically significant (hemoglobin >12 g/dL, ferritin >19 μg/L). There was a significant increase in ferritin in Group C (P = 0.03) at 28 weeks. No significant difference was observed with respect to pregnancy or birth outcome across the groups. All regimens prevented the occurrence of hemoglobin <10.5 g/dL, but weekly supplementation was associated with development of a hemoglobin level <11.0 g/dL (risk ratio 0.044). Conclusion: Twice-weekly supplementation is as effective as daily supplementation, and may represent an acceptable compromise in iron supplementation regimens for nonanemic pregnant women.

Modern Economy (ME) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/me.2018.99097
Abstract: Located at the key spot of the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has abundant natural and cultural resources with relatively small area and small population, and tourism here plays an important role in local economic development. As China vigorously promoted the construction of tourism throughout the nation, the local government actively responded to the call of the state and successfully became the second state-level all-for-one tourism demonstration zone on a province basis, and finally achieved some decent results. In order to summarize the experience on tourism policy of Ningxia, by introducing Nvivo implementation analysis tool, this paper analyzes and summarizes a series of policy documents for the construction of demonstration zone in Ningxia. According to the specific requirements in the Guideline on the Development of All-for-One Tourism released by the State Council, the article encodes the specific policy measures for Ningxia’s development and establishes a node system, pointing out that Ningxia’s policy measures are consistent with the ones formulated at the national level. On this basis, taking the Xixia District of Yinchuan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region as an example, the paper analyzes its specific measures and effects of developing regional tourism, and discusses the policy regulation and implementation path that means taking planning and guidance seriously, emphasizing concrete implementation, promoting industrial integration, and paying close attention to tourism supervision.
