Estudo sobre a eventual utilidade de raios gama na profilaxia da malária transmissível por transfus o de sangue

Abstract: O estudo foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar a eventual utilidade de raios gama na profilaxia da malária transmissível por transfus o de sangue, tendo sido, para isso, usados camundongos infectados pelo Plasmodium berghei. Na primeira fase, quando submetemos sangue deles retirado a 2.500 e 5.000rad, com associa o ou n o de metronidazol, n o obtivemos sucesso, já que todos os animais antes sem a parasitose apresentaram parasitemia e morreram após inocula o do sangue irradiado. Porém, ocorreu êxito parcial na segunda fase, ao serem empregados 10.000 e 15.000rad, porquanto 20% e 40% dos roedores, respectivamente, embora tenham ficado infectados, sobreviveram, com posterior negativa o quanto à presen a do P. berghei.

Abstract: O leite de b ofala composto por elevados teores de nutrientes, sendo importante, principalmente, como mat ria-prima para elabora § £o de produtos l cteos e fonte de prote -nas e c lcio. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo estudar o efeito dos raios gama na disponibilidade de c lcio no leite de b ofala. O leite integral foi irradiado nas doses 0,25; 0,50; 0,75 e 1,0 kGy e tamb m foi avaliado o controle, que n £o foi submetido ao processo de irradia § £o. Foram avaliadas composi § £o centesimal e teor de c lcio total no primeiro dia para caracteriza § £o do leite utilizado. As an lises de di lise de c lcio in vitro ocorreram no primeiro, terceiro, sexto e nono dias de armazenamento a 4 oC. Como resultados para a composi § £o centesimal foram obtidos valores de 4,85% de prote -na, 7,00% de gordura, 0,79% cinza e 4,45% carboidratos. O teor de c lcio foi 212,43mg/100mL. A irradia § £o do leite n £o alterou a disponibilidade de c lcio.

Abstract: A first generation gamma-ray computed tomography (CT) equippedwith a 137Cs source was used to investigate changes in soil structure due to agricultural machinery traffic. Core samples with volume of 55 cm3 were collected at the surface (0-10 cm) of a Brazilian clayey soil. Significant alterations in soil structure occurred after two passages of tractor wheels, with important decreases in soil porosity. CT data allowed a continuous analysis of soil bulk density and also soil porosity distribution for 1.25 and 1.20 mm layers, which cannot be provided by traditional methods commonly used in soil physics. Um tomógrafo computadorizado (TC) de raios gama de primeira gera o equipado com fonte radioativa de 137Cs foi usado no estudo de mudan as na estrutura do solo pelo tráfego de implementos agrícolas. Amostras com volume de 55 cm3 foram coletadas na superfície (0-10 cm) de um solo argiloso. Altera es significativas na estrutura do soloocorreram após duas passagens da roda de um trator com importantes diminui es na sua porosidade. Os dados de TC permitiram uma contínua análise das distribui es de densidade do solo e porosidade para camadas de 1,25 e 1,20 mm, o que n o pode ser obtido nos métodos tradicionais comumente usados em física do solo.

Abstract: Materiais esterilizados em raios gama, ao serem re-esterilizados em óxido de etileno (EO), formam substancias tóxicas? Esta quest o norteou o objetivo deste estudo, que foi investigar o potencial efeito citotóxico do PVC esterilizado em radia o gama e re-esterilizado em EO pelo método da difus o em ágar em culturas celulares. Nove tubos de PVC foram submetidos à esteriliza o em radia o gama e re-esterilizados em EO. Os tubos foram divididos em um total de 81 unidades de análise, que foram testadas de forma a representar as superfícies internas, externas e massa de cada tubo. Concluiu-se que os materiais de PVC esterilizados em Radia o Gama e consecutivamente re-esterilizados em EO n o s o citotóxicos. Los materiales esterilizados con rayos gama, al ser re-esterilizados en óxido de etileno (EO), forman substancias tóxicas? Esta pregunta orientó el objetivo del presente estudio, que fue investigar el potencial efecto citotóxico del PVC esterilizado en radiación gamma y re-esterilizado en EO por el método de difusión en agar en cultivos celulares. Nueve tubos de PVC fueron sometidos a esterilización por radiación gamma y re-esterilizados en EO. Se les aplicaron en total 81 unidades de análisis, las cuales fueron testeadas de manera tal de representar las superficies internas, externas y la masa de cada tubo. Se concluyó en que los materiales de PVC esterilizados con Radiación Gamma y, posteriormente, con EO, no son citotóxicos. Do materials sterilized using gamma rays become toxic when re-sterilized in ethylene oxide? This question guided the objective of this study, which was to investigate the potential cytotoxic effect of PVC sterilized by gamma radiation and re-sterilized with EO by the agar diffusion method in cell cultures. Nine PVC tubes were subjected to gamma radiation sterilization and were re-sterilized in EO. The tubes were divided into a total of 81 units of analysis that were tested so as to represent the internal and external surfaces and mass of each tube. It was concluded that the PVC materials sterilized in gamma radiation and re-sterilized in EO are not cytotoxic.

Abstract: The Galaxy And Mass Assembly Survey (GAMA) has now been operating for almost 5 years gathering spectroscopic redshifts for five regions of sky spanning 300 sq degrees in total to a depth of r<19.8 mag. The survey has amassed over 225,000 redshifts making it the third largest redshift campaign after the SDSS and BOSS surveys. The survey has two novel features that set it apart: (1) complete and uniform sampling to a fixed flux limit (r<19.8 mag) regardless of galaxy clustering due to multiple-visits to each sky region, enabling the construction of high-fidelity catalogues of groups and pairs, (2) co-ordination with diverse imaging campaigns which together sample an extremely broad range along the electro-magnetic spectrum from the UV (GALEX) through optical (VST KIDs), near-IR (VISTA VIKING), mid-IR (WISE), far-IR (Herschel-Atlas), 1m (GMRT), and eventually 20cm continuum and rest-frame 21cm line measurements (ASKAP DINGO). Apart from the ASKAP campaign all multi-wavelength programmes are either complete or in the final stages of observations and the UV-far-IR data are expected to be fully merged by the end of 2013. This article provides a brief flavour of the coming panchromatic database which will eventually include measurements or upper-limits across 27 wavebands for 380,000 galaxies. GAMA DR2 is scheduled for the end of January 2013.

Abstract: seeds of the bean cultivar (phaseolus vulgaris l.) carioca 80 were irradiated with gamma-rays to induce mutants with higher basal height (sum of hypocotyl and epycotyl). a mutant with 1.7 time greater basal height was obtained in the m2 generation from 24 krad treatment. genetic studies showed that the mutation was a monogenic recessive allele. this is the first report of an induced mutant with this characteristic.

Abstract: milk is an important food because it is rich in calcium and proteins. the objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of gamma radiation from 60co on the calcium availability and sensorial aspects. the milk samples were packed in bags similar to those used for commercial products. the samples were submitted to gamma radiation at doses of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 kgy and stored at 4 °c with evaluations on the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th days of storage. the calcium amount and centesimal composition were evaluated at the beginning of the study. calcium dialyzis in vitro was performed at different times of storage. sensorial analysis was conducted on two doses with amore stable ph under the lowest radiation dose and the second lowest radiation dose, 0.5 and 1.0 kgy, respectively. data analysis was conducted using the tukey test (5%). physicochemical analysis showed an increase in calcium availability, and the most adequate dose found was 1 kgy due to its highest ph stability in the period of 10 days, but the sensorial analysis showed that the samples were not well accepted by the testers.

Abstract: The isochoric thermal conductivity of gama-O2 has been studied on samples of varying density in the temperature interval from 44 K to the onset of melting. The thermal conductivity of nearly free sample decreases at rising temperature along the isochores. It is shown that the absolute value of thermal conductivity in the gama-phase of O2 is close to its lower limit and most of the heat is transported by "diffusive" modes. The growth of thermal conductivity in gama-O2 is attributed to the decay of the phonon scattering at the rotational excitations of the molecules and at the short-range magnetic order fluctuations at rising temperature.

Abstract: Amorphous silica-based materials bulk and superficially doped with silver nanocolloids were prepared. Bulk doped glasses were obtained by conventional melting and doped monolithic slabs by sol-gel. Superficially doped glasses were obtained by ion-exchange and doped coatings by sol-gel. The samples were characterised by TEM and UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Depending on the composition, the silver incorporation process, and the thermal treatments, several colourings were obtained. By controlling these parameters, metallic silver nanocolloids can be generated in the matrices studied. Colloids aggregation and growing up depends on the matrix nature and on the experimental process carried out. Se prepararon materiales silíceos amorfos dopados con nanocoloides de plata en masa y en superficie. Se obtuvieron vidrios dopados en masa por fusión convencional y láminas monolíticas dopadas por sol-gel. Asimismo se prepararon vidrios dopados superficialmente por cambio iónico y recubrimientos dopados por sol-gel. Los materiales se caracterizaron por MET y espectrofotometría UV-VIS. Dependiendo de la composición del material, del proceso de incorporación de la plata y de los tratamientos térmicos, se obtuvieron diferentes coloraciones. El control de estas variables permitió generar nanocoloides metálicos de plata en las matrices estudiadas. La agregación y crecimiento de los coloides depende de la naturaleza de la matriz y del proceso experimental utilizado.
