Abstract: Avaliou-se o efeito da suplementa o alimentar com Selênio e Vitamina E sobre os parametros seminais de caprinos submetidos à insula o escrotal (IE). Utilizaramse 12 animais distribuídos, aleatoriamente, em grupos-controle (G1) e Selênio e Vitamina E (G2). Dois meses após o início da suplementa o alimentar nos animais do G2, realizou-seIE durante 18 dias. Após este período (IE), a suplementa o foi mantida por mais 42 dias (fase pós-insula o escrotal, PIE). Para análise seminal, foram efetuadas seis colheitas de sêmen (antes, durante e após a IE). N o foi observado efeito da suplementa o com Selênio e Vitamina E nas características quanti-qualitativas do sêmen. Com exce o do volume seminal, foi observada diferen a significativa (p < 0,05) entre os dias de colheita para ambosos grupos, com redu o de motilidade, vigor, concentra o espermática, integridade do acrossoma e de DNA. Decorridos 42 dias da IE, observou-se normalidade de motilidade, vigor espermático, integridade de acrossoma e de DNA em um animal de cada grupo.Conclui-se que a temperatura elevada nos testículos de caprinos submetidos à IE altera os parametros seminais; a suplementa o com Selênio e Vitamina E, nas concentra es de 0,1 e 0,3 mg kg-1 PV-1, respectivamente, n o é suficiente para minimizar os efeitos deletérios da insula o escrotal induzida. This study evaluated the effect of Selenium and Vitamin E supplementation on the semen parameters of goats induced to scrotal insulation (SI). Twelve animals were used, distributed randomly in twogroups (G1 = Control; G2 = Selenium and Vitamin E). Two months after the start of diet supplementation on G2 animals, it was realized SI was induced during 18 days. After this period (SI), supplementation was maintained during 42 days, corresponding to the postinsulationphase (PSI). For semen analysis, six semen collections were performed (before, during and after SI). There was no effect of Selenium and Vitamin E supplementation on the quanti-qualitative characteristics of the semen. With the exception of semen volume, a significant effect (p < 0.05) was observed between collection days for both groups (G1 and G2), with reduction in motility, vigor, sperm concentration, acrosome and DNA integrity. After 42 days of SI, normal values were observed for motility and sperm vigor, acrosomeand DNA integrity in one animal per group. Abstract: Ejaculados de seis bodes Moxotó e seis sangue Moxotó-Pardo Alpina, adultos, mantidos em confinamento, foram avaliados antes e após a insula o do saco escrotal com bolsa de plástico, de parede dupla, durante 6,5 dias. A degenera o seminal ocorreu em todos os animais na 4a semana após o início da insula o, ressaltando-se a redu o na concentra o, o aumento dos defeitos espermáticos e a redu o do vigor celular, culminando com a necrospermia. A motilidade individual progressiva (MIP) atingiu os valores mais baixos na 3a semana após o início da insula o, retornando aos valores normais entre a 8a e 9a semanas. Os defeitos espermáticos come aram a aumentar aos sete dias após o início da insula o escrotal. O volume apresentou oscila es atípicas e o aumento da temperatura escrotal afetou os parametros físicos e morfológicos do ejaculado de maneira consistente evidenciando-se o efeito negativo sobre a qualidade do sêmen.

Abstract: Um estudo foi conduzido com a finalidade de avaliar o efeito do estresse térmico sobre parametros seminais e biometria testicular em carneiros Santa Inês. Oito animais adultos foram submetidos à insula o escrotal por sete dias. Realizaram-se duas avalia es antes da insula o e, após este período, doze coletas durante 118 dias. A insula o escrotal n o causou varia es no volume dos ejaculados, mas o pH seminal apresentou valores elevados oito dias após a insula o, retornando à normalidade após 15 dias. Ocorreu redu o na concentra o espermática oito dias após a insula o e os animais apresentaram azoospermia entre 33 e 50 dias. Depois de 79 dias, a concentra o espermática retornou aos padr es observados antes da insula o. A circunferência escrotal (26,4 cm) reduziu para 22,4 cm oito dias após o término do tratamento e para 21 cm aos 21 dias, mas retornou a valores próximos à normalidade (24,9 cm) aos 50 dias. Foi observado decréscimo na motilidade e vigor espermático a partir da retirada da bolsa e o retorno destes parametros à normalidade ocorreu somente após 90 dias. Antes da insula o, 1,7% dos espermatozóides apresentaram-se com defeitos maiores e 9,9 %, com defeitos menores. Na primeira coleta após a insula o, 3,6% das células apresentaram defeitos maiores e 43,4 %, defeitos menores; aos oito dias, estes valores foram de 8,4 e 60,4%, respectivamente. Entre 15 e 60 dias após a insula o, a percentagem de defeitos maiores variou entre 27,3 e 16,8%, enquanto a de defeitos menores permaneceu em torno de 39%. Aos 118 dias após a insula o, os defeitos maiores representaram somente 0,7%, mas o número de células com defeitos menores continuou elevado (24,4 %). Portanto, o estresse térmico causou interrup o temporária do processo de produ o espermática e os parametros relativos à motilidade e defeitos menores apresentaram maior susceptibilidade.

Abstract: Neste experimento avaliou-se o efeito do probiótico Proenzime no perímetro escrotal e espermiograma em touros jovens Tabapu . Duas colheitas de sêmen de 21 touros Tabapu , com trinta meses de idade, foram realizadas nos dias zero (D0) e 120 (D120) por eletroejacula o, totalizando 42 amostras. Dividiram-se os touros em grupo-controle (GC) com dez animais e grupo tratado (GT) com onze animais. Os touros do GT receberam 4g de probiótico/animal/dia, durante 120 dias. Houve diferen a (p<0,01) entre as colheitas (D0 e D120) nos grupos GC e GT para o perímetro escrotal (GC – D0: 30,50 cm e D120: 33,55 cm; GT – D0: 29,90 cm e D120: 34,30 cm). Houve diferen a (p<0,05) entre colheitas (D0 e D120) nos grupos GC e GT, respectivamente, para: defeitos menores (GC – D0: 13,84 % e D120: 21,79%; GT – D0: 14,99% e D120: 20,84%) e defeitos totais (GC – D0: 22,29% e D120: 29,24%; GT – D0: 25,14% e D120: 32,81%). Os resultados demonstram que, entre grupos, n o houve altera o significativa das características seminais e perímetro escrotal. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of the probiotic Proenzime on scrotal perimeter and spermiogram in young Tabapua bulls. Two samples of semen from 21 Tabapua bulls, aging 30 months, were collected in day zero (D0) and 120 (D120) by electroejaculation, totalizing 42 samples. The bulls were divided in control group (CG) with 10 animals and trated group (TG) with 11 animals. The bulls of TG received 4g of probiotic/animal/day, during 120 days. There was difference (p<0.01) between collects (D0 and D120) in the groups CG and TG for scrotal perimeter (CG – D0: 30.50 cm and D120: 33.55 cm; TG – D0: 29.90 cm and D120: 34.30 cm). There was difference (p<0.05) between collects (D0 and D120) in the groups CG and TG, respectively. Minor defects (CG – D0: 13.84% and D120: 21.79%; TG – D0: 14.99% and D120: 20.84%) and total defects (CG – D0: 22.29% and D120: 29.24%; TG – D0: 25.14% and D120: 32.81%). The results exposed allow concluding that significant alterations were not observed between groups for the seminal characteristics and scrotal perimeter. KEY WORDS: Aditive, bull, nutrition, semen.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to compare the adaptation to high temperatures of a brazilian local breed with an european one. the effects of scrotal insulation for 48 hours on seminal characteristics of curraleiro (n = 5) versus holstein (n = 6) bulls were evaluated. a sequence of semen collection and andrologic evaluation was performed before (two collections) and after (nine weekly collections) scrotal insulation. among the seminal parameters evaluated, the progressive sperm motility had a significantly lower decrease in curraleiro (25%) than in holstein bulls (50%), during the postinsulation period. sperm motility of curraleiro bulls, 37 days after insulation, returned to pre-insulation values sooner than that of holstein bulls (51 days). sperm vigor had a lower decrease after insulation in curraleiro (15.2%) than in holstein bulls (47.8%). the total number of spermatozoa per ejaculate has dropped similarly in both groups after scrotal insulation (67.9 and 79.4% of drop for curraleiro and holstein bulls, respectively, between 16 and 23 days). the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa reached maximum values between 16 and 30 days after insulation and was greater in holstein bulls (41.3±5.9%) 30 days after the insult. curraleiro are more tolerant to the effects of scrotal insulation on seminal characteristics than holstein bulls.

Abstract: ejaculations of twelve adult bucks, six moxotó breed and six crossbred ? moxotó-alpine brown, kept in confinement were evaluated prior to and after insulation of scrotal sac through a plastic bag with double wall for 6.5 days. there was seminal degeneration in all animals, showed by reduction of spermatic concentration and drop of the forward individual motility (mip) associated to high level of sperm morphological abnormalities and hence necrospermy. the mip reached lower values in three weeks after beginning of the scrotal insulation when sperm vigor was also reduced and sperm abnormalities increased. seminal degeneration occurred on the 4th week post-insulation. however, within 56-63 days post-insulation the mip returned to normality. the sperm abnormalities began to appear seven days after the initiation of insulation. the semen volume oscillated during all experimental period and the increasing heat in the scrotal sac caused a series of physical and morphological changes on seminal cells that altered the semen quality.

A abdomino scrotal hydrocole must be considered when a mass in the lower abdomen co exists with a scrotal hydrocoele. El conocimiento de la embriología y el descenso de los testículos es esencial para todos los clínicos. El hidrocele congénito, aunque es una anomalía embriológica se puede presentar en la edad adulta. Un hidrocele abdomino-escrotal debe ser considerado cuando una masa en la parte inferior del abdomen co existe con un hidrocele testicular.

Abstract: a study was conducted to determine the effect of heat stress on semen criteria and testis size in santa inês hairy rams, in the state of ceará, northeast of brazil. the scrotum of eight adult rams was insulated for seven days. animals were evaluated twice before insulation and, after insulation, at 12 different periods until 118 days. scrotal insulation did not affect semen volume, but ph was increased after eight days, returning to normal values after 15 days. sperm concentration was reduced eight days after insulation was removed and animals became azzospermic between 33 and 50 days. after 79 days, sperm concentration returned to values similar to those observed before treatment. scrotal circumference (26.4 cm) decreased to 22.4 cm eight days after insulation and to 21 cm at 21 days, but returned to 24.9 cm after 50 days. moreover, sperm motility and vigor were reduced right after insulation was removed and returned to normal profiles only after 90 days. before treatment, there were 1.7% of sperm cells with primary defects and 9.9% with secondary defects. right after insulation, sperm cells with primary defects increased to 3.6% and those with secondary defects, to 43.4%, and after eight days, these values increased to 8.4 and 60.4%, respectively. from 15 to 60 days, sperm cells with primary defects varied from 27.3 to 16.8%, while those with secondary defects showed only small variations (39.9 to 39%). at the end of the experiment (118 days after insulation), primary defects were reduced to 0.7%, but the percentage of cells with secondary defects was still high (24.4 %). therefore, heat stress caused temporary interruption of sperm production in the ram and sperm motility and secondary defects seemed to be the most sensitive criteria.

Abstract: El linfedema peneano y escrotal tiene consecuencias funcionales, estéticas, sociales y psicológicas significativas para el paciente que lo padece. Es una enfermedad infrecuente en los países desarrollados, aunque relativamente prevalente en los países tropicales. Su causa más común es la filariasis, aunque en nuestra práctica diaria se asocia más frecuentemente a cirugía, radioterapia, procesos inflamatorios y neoplásicos. Presentamos un caso singular de linfedema penoescrotal secundario a cirugía por hernia inguinal gigante bilateral que persistía un a o después de la intervención. El tratamiento quirúrgico consistió en la exéresis de toda la piel linfedematosa del escroto involucrada y el uso de colgajos de piel escrotal posterior para la cobertura testicular. En un segundo tiempo quirúrgico se llevó a cabo una extirpación total de la piel del pene y del tejido subcutáneo superficial a la fascia de Buck. Empleamos injertos de piel de grosor parcial para cubrir el pene denudado. El resultado estético postoperatorio fue aceptable y los resultados funcionales y psicológicos son satisfactorios para el paciente 3 a os después de la cirugía. Lymphedema of the penis and scrotum has important functional, cosmetic, social, psychological consequences for the affected patient. It is a rare disease in the developed countries, although it is relatively frequent in tropical countries. Globally, the most common cause is filariasis, although in our practice it is most frecuently associated to surgery, radiotherapy, inflammatory and neoplasic diseases. We report one rare case of penoscrotal lymphedema due to billateral giant inguinal hernia reconstrction. The lymphedema was persistent one year after the repair of the billateral hernia. The technique of reconstruction consisted of excision of all involved lymphedematous skin of the scrotum, and use of posterior scrotal flaps for testicular coverage. In a second surgical time, a total excision of the penile skin and subcutaneous tissue superficial to the Buck's fascia was performed. Split thickness skin grafts were sed to cover the denuded penis. The patient had an acceptable cosmetic postoperative outcome. The functional and psychological results were satisfactory 3 years after surgery.
