Impacts of Watching Television and Computer Using on Students' Reading Habits rencilerin Televizyon zlemeleri ve Bilgisayar Kullanmalar n n Okuma Al kanl klar üzerine Etkisi

Abstract: Reading habits contribute both to the cognitive and social developments of individuals in so many aspects. This function of the reading habit continues in the rapid social changing process of today's world. However, children's habits of television watching and computer using have been recently seen to affect their reading habits. Therefore, defining the positive or negative impacts of television and computers on children and finding solutions carries significant importance. The aim of this study is to determine the influences of the television watching and computer using on children's reading habits. In order to find out the influences, a survey was performed on all 5thgrade students at Bilkent Private Primary School and ankaya Public Primary School located within Ankara Büyük ehir Municipality borders. The questionaire was applied to 222 students in these two schools. As a result of the study, it is clear that students prefer to play on computers and watch television in their leisure time to reading books. There is an inverse proportion apparent between the time spent using computers and watching television and the time spent on reading. Abstract: Public relations is an indispensable management function for an organization to reach its target audiences so as to serve them better and, at the same time, to upgrade its status in society as an organization. Television, as mass communication medium, is used effectively in public relations in librarianship. Researches showed that planned public relations is not utilized in the field of librarianship in our country, and television is not made use of for this purpose. Abstract: We present our search for young transiting planets at ages of 2 to 20 Myr. Towards this goal, we monitor a number of young open clusters with the YETI network. YETI consists of 0.4-2 m-sized telescopes at different longitudes that observe continuously over timescales much longer than a night. In our first cluster Trumpler 37 we found more than 350 variable stars. Also two transiting candidates were found so far, for which follow-up is partly done. The first candidate turned out to be an eclipsing binary with an M-type companion. We describe the research done on these two transiting candidates.

Abstract: We present the Young Exoplanet Transit Initiative (YETI), in which we use several 0.2 to 2.6m telescopes around the world to monitor continuously young (< 100 Myr), nearby (< 1 kpc) stellar clusters mainly to detect young transiting planets (and to study other variability phenomena on time-scales from minutes to years). The telescope network enables us to observe the targets continuously for several days in order not to miss any transit. The runs are typically one to two weeks long, about three runs per year per cluster in two or three subsequent years for about ten clusters. There are thousands of stars detectable in each field with several hundred known cluster members, e.g. in the first cluster observed, Tr-37, a typical cluster for the YETI survey, there are at least 469 known young stars detected in YETI data down to R=16.5 mag with sufficient precision of 50 milli-mag rms (5 mmag rms down to R=14.5 mag) to detect transits, so that we can expect at least about one young transiting object in this cluster. If we observe 10 similar clusters, we can expect to detect approximately 10 young transiting planets with radius determinations. The precision given above is for a typical telescope of the YETI network, namely the 60/90-cm Jena telescope (similar brightness limit, namely within +/-1 mag, for the others) so that planetary transits can be detected. For planets with mass and radius determinations, we can calculate the mean density and probe the internal structure. We aim to constrain planet formation models and their time-scales by discovering planets younger than 100 Myr and determining not only their orbital parameters, but also measuring their true masses and radii, which is possible so far only by the transit method. Abstract: Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are initiatives that were established in the USA with the aim of solving the personal issues of employees who have alcoholism problems. The basis behind this act is to win the problematic but experienced personnel back through professional care. As the range of EAPs widen within years, these programs started to be adopted by other countries as well. In this study, literature about the definition, procedures, coverage areas and the evaluation of EAPs is analysed. The very recent developments in Turkey, on this subject which has no resources in Turkish, are examined and suggestions for the future are presented.

Abstract: To search for young transiting planets in continuous light curves, we monitor young open clusters (2-200 Myr) with the YETI network. Here we report the first transiting candidates (two in Trumpler 37, one in 25 Ori). Follow-up observations of the candidates are partly done.
