The enlightenment Odyssey and Oedipus: Subject, reason and emancipation in Horkheimer’s and Adorno’s dialectic of the enlightenment  [PDF]
Krsti? Predrag
Filozofija i Dru?tvo , 2006, DOI: 10.2298/fid0630031k
Abstract: Led by Adorno and Horkheimer’s understanding of the three conceptual orienteers - subject, reason and emancipation - this work attempts to sketch a status that they have attributed to the Enlightenment. Ulysses and Oedipus are here used not only in the way those two authors have done, not only to illustrate dialectical contradictions that this "project" falls into and is marked by, but also in a way that signalize possibilities of different interpretations that have relied upon them. Adorno and Horkheimer’s "to enlighten the enlightenment about itself" is thus displayed, extended and examined also in the fields of contemporary thought where they have, in different ways, inspired and provoked new generation of Critical theory, and on the other hand, the postmodern authors.

Souza, Mauricio Rodrigues de;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822011000300004
Abstract: this article analyses the concept of enlightenment in horkheimer, adorno and freud. therefore, it traces a parallel between two of the most representative works of these authors in terms of cultural criticism: the concept of enlightenment and the future of an illusion, respectively. although an initial approach might suggest different theoretical perspectives, we emphasize that they can be taken as complementary in defense of a more adequate using of conceptual thought.

Revista de Administra??o de Empresas , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-75902010000300007
Abstract: based on readings of horkheimer and adorno, authors of the so-called first generation of frankfurt school, the text socializes understandings regarding critical ontology, epistemology and methodology aiming to contribute with the practice of critical research within the frankfurtian tradition in the management field. the paper sets off with ontological discussion to substantiate the frankfurtian epistemological perspective. it then introduces critical epistemological dimensions and suggests three dialectic categorical pairs for understanding reality: naturalization versus history, system versus social praxis, alienation/domination versus emancipation. the text discusses methodological issues and concludes socializing an example of critical research within the frankfurtian tradition in management.

Para una relectura de la crítica a la razón de Theodor W. Adorno y Max Horkheimer
Abril,Francisco;
T?3picos , 2009,
Abstract: this paper aims to offer an analysis of the critique of reason developed by max horkheimer and theodor w. adorno in three of his most important books: dialectic of enlightenment, the critique of instrumental reason and minima moralia. two fundamental questions are posed: does the thought of the authors set a radical critique? if this is the case, wouldn't it imply a series of meta theorical problems and contradictions? in order to treat these questions, the statement is divided into two parts. the first explores the recurring issues of the critique of reason. in the second, we elaborate a brief reconstruction of two opposite hermeneutics of horkheimer and adorno's works: on the one hand, the lecture of frankfurt school's second generation (jürgen habermas and albrecht wellmer); on the other hand, juan josé sánchez's exposition. our principal contribution to this debate is to warn sánchez that, in his justified intention of separating from habermas and postmodern's reading, he finally weakens the contradictory and negative tone of adorno and horkheimer's philosophy.
Mimese e crime em Adorno e Horkheimer: comentário sobre o "Fragmento de uma teoria do criminoso"
Massola, Gustavo Martineli;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2007000200005
Abstract: the article discusses the contribution of adorno and horkheimer in the issue of crime and its punishment, according to "fragment of a theory of the criminal". first, considers the importance of discussing crime in the work of the institute for social research of the frankfurt university. then, the "fragment of a theory of the criminal" is analyzed in the light of the concepts of enlightenment and of mimesis. the idea of the criminal as a sick person is considered an ideological construction, therefore typical of the bourgeoisie society, and it does not find rational justification in a monopolist society. mimesis is considered the key concept for the understanding of the criminal as a sick person and it explains the changes faced by the penitentiary system in the post-fascist society.
