HACIA LA CONSTITUCIóN DE UN CORPUS DIACRóNICO DEL ESPA OL DE CHILE TOWARDS CHILEAN SPANISH LANGUAGE DIACHRONIC CORPUS  [cached]
MANUEL CONTRERAS SEITZ
The conformation of Hispanic diachronic corpora (Spanish and Hispano-American) in order to place the framework of the CorDECh (Corpus Diacrónico del Espa ol de Chile) is described and analyzed in this paper. The work shows an intersection between traditional disciplines, such as the philolology and the paleography, with linguistic disciplines that have been revitalized in the last years, such as corpus linguistics, in order to shape a Chilean Spanish diachronic corpus. In addition, the criteria of corpus formation is presented in this text (chronological, documentary selection and transcription, diatopics and register varieties); in the same way, some aspects of corpora automatization and the implications and projections for its analysis is discussed here. Finally, the criteria for corpus labelling are reviewed, according to the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), adopted for the RAE in the Prontuario de Marcación SGML, used for the CORDE (Spanish Language Diachronic Corpus), together with showing some examples of these aspects, for which the Cooktop 2.5 XML/XSLT editor was used.
Nazar,Rogelio;
Revista signos , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-09342011000100005
Abstract: this paper presents a methodology for analyzing the evolution of the terminology used in a specialized domain. such terminology is measured according to its variation in the frequency of use, as well as the appearance and disappearance of the terms. as an example, the paper reports the results of the application of this methodology to a corpus made up of the 1983-2006 spanish association of applied linguistics proceedings. the methodology can be summarized in a quantitative and language-independent algorithm that accepts a set of text documents organized by years as input and offers a selection of terms as output by calculating their frequency distribution over time. the geometrical properties of the curves representing the frequency of use of the terminological units help to automatically identify those which come into use and those no longer in use. metaphorically, the paper offers a kind of radiology of the paradigm shifts that occur in the history of the field as well as a neology and an archeology of its terminology, revealing terms that would be otherwise hard to find due to the scale of the corpus. the specific objective of this paper is to propose an alternative to other methods which only consider curves of frequency distribution of units in the time line arbitrarily selected by a user. this paper offers a new view because it is the reverse procedure: instead of introducing lexical units to study their frequency curves, the curves to obtain the units are introduced. the usefulness of these sets of units may vary according to the needs. for instance, the creation of glossaries of different types (hard copy or electronic format) may require a nomenclature that includes only the terminology firmly established in the literature or, in other cases, neologisms or terms no longer in use.
An open diachronic corpus of historical Spanish: annotation criteria and automatic modernisation of spelling  [PDF]

Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: The IMPACT-es diachronic corpus of historical Spanish compiles over one hundred books --containing approximately 8 million words-- in addition to a complementary lexicon which links more than 10 thousand lemmas with attestations of the different variants found in the documents. This textual corpus and the accompanying lexicon have been released under an open license (Creative Commons by-nc-sa) in order to permit their intensive exploitation in linguistic research. Approximately 7% of the words in the corpus (a selection aimed at enhancing the coverage of the most frequent word forms) have been annotated with their lemma, part of speech, and modern equivalent. This paper describes the annotation criteria followed and the standards, based on the Text Encoding Initiative recommendations, used to the represent the texts in digital form. As an illustration of the possible synergies between diachronic textual resources and linguistic research, we describe the application of statistical machine translation techniques to infer probabilistic context-sensitive rules for the automatic modernisation of spelling. The automatic modernisation with this type of statistical methods leads to very low character error rates when the output is compared with the supervised modern version of the text.

Traitement Automatique des Langues , 2010,
Abstract: The present paper reports on the development and evaluation of a historical corpus designed to support detailed empirical studies on the interaction of information structure and syntax in Old High German (OHG). The creation and exploration of this corpus are part of a more general investigation concerning the role of information-structural factors in the explanation of word order variation and change in the Germanic languages. The paper also describes corpus design principles, methodologies, relevant formats and specifications, and the technical infrastructure employed during the creation of the corpus, as well as its accessibility by means of the linguistic database of information structure ANNIS.

Ilha do Desterro , 2008,
