Palavras-chave: turismo; Santa Catarina; turistas argentinos; economia argentina Abstract The State of Santa Catarina has witnessed a considerable development of its tourist sector in the last decades. The demand from Argentina has proved to be an important factor of that growth. This article deals with a feature of the presence of Argentinians in the state which seems to be scarcely studied: the relationship between the macroeconomic situation of Argentina and the tourist demand in Santa Catarina originated from that country. The first part of the article considers briefly the general issue of tourism macroeconomics. The second one looks upon tourism growth in Santa Catarina, stressing the presence of visitors from Argentine. The third section develops an analysis based on statistical treatment of data concerning demand and income generated by such tourists in Santa Catarina, involving correlations that consider aspects like exchange rate and the rate of GDP increase in Argentina. Keywords: tourism; Santa Catarina; tourists from Argentina; Argentina’s economy

Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1994, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061994000100007
Abstract: a survey on myxomycetes was made in the woods of lagoa do peri and lagoa da concei??o in 1990, considering the absence of reports of this kind for the city of florianópolis, when the following species were registered: lycogala exiguum morg. (enteridiaceae); cribraria languescem rex, c. vulgaris schr. (cribrariaceae); arcyria cinerea (bull.) pers. hemitrichia serpula (scop.) rost., h. calyculata (speg.) fair and hemitrichia sp (trichiaceae); stemonitis fusca roth, and s. smithii macbr. (stemonitaceae). exicates are deposited at the herbarium ufp. lycogala exiguum is noted for the first time in the state of santa catarina, cribraria languescem in the south and cribraria vulgaris in brazil. the survey raises up the number of registers refered to the state of santa catarina to 47 species. a review of the studies on this group of organisms in santa catarina is given as well as the area where each species occur in this state and in different regions of brazil.

Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842012000100007
Abstract: the wildlife trade is becoming increasingly more relevant in discussions concerning conservation biology and the sustainable management of natural resources. the aim of this study was to document the trade and breeding of wildlife in santa catarina state, in southern brazil. data was collected from annual reports (1996-2008) of wildlife breeders which were sent to ibama. by the end of 2008, there were 79 wildlife breeders and 11 wildlife traders distributed in santa catarina. commercial breeding accounted for the highest number of breeders (51%). in total, there are 213 species of wild animals bred in the state: 177 birds, 19 mammals and 17 reptiles. of these, 48% are native to santa catarina, 32% occur in other brazilian states and 20% are exotic to brazil. nine percent of the species bred are vulnerable or endangered. it was observed that some breeders reported breeding unauthorized species. altogether, 93 species are bred illegally by 19 breeders. of these species, 48 are native to santa catarina and three are classified as vulnerable or in danger of extinction. we hope the data presented in this paper contributes to the development of conservation strategies and conscious use of wildlife resources in brazil.

Abstract: introduction: the amazon region of brazil is endemic for malaria. in the state of santa catarina, malaria was eliminated in the 1980s. since then, a few sporadic isolated autochthonous cases have occurred. however, because malaria vectors are present within brazilian territory and extensive endemic areas exist in this country, along with the great mobility of people in tourist areas of santa catarina, there is the likelihood of reintroduction of the disease. methods: the following data were used: the database of the entomology group of the national health foundation, santa catarina (acces, 1997-2000); the epidemiological surveillance information system of the health surveillance department (malaria/sc); and the notifiable disease information system (sinan/sc). these data were transferred to and analyzed in the microsoft office excel 2007 software. results: collections were carried out in 48 municipalities and 159 localities, and 12,310 culicids, 11,546 anophelines (93.7%) and 764 others (6.2%) were identified. three subgenera and 13 species of anophelines were identified. conclusions: given that in the municipalities investigated, important vectors such as anopheles cruzii and anopheles albitasis were found to be present, with movements of infected individuals from endemic areas, these areas can be considered to be receptive and vulnerable to malaria. these species are suspected of being responsible for malaria transmission in this region, especially in the municipalities of gaspar, indaial and rodeio.
Microepidemia de histoplasmose em Blumenau, Santa Catarina
Oliveira, Flávio de Mattos;Unis, Gisela;Severo, Luiz Carlos;
Jornal Brasileiro de Pneumologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-37132006000400018
Abstract: acute pulmonary histoplasmosis is rarely diagnosed and is often confused with tuberculosis. most knowledge of the disease has been derived from descriptions of epidemics in which a number of individuals were exposed to the same source of infection. isolation of histoplasma capsulatum var. capsulatum from soil samples is conclusive evidence of an epidemic focus. this is the first report of an outbreak of histoplasmosis, in which two cases were reported and the fungus was isolated at the focus of the epidemic, in the state of santa catarina. further epidemiological studies are needed in order to determine the prevalence of the infection statewide.

Biotemas , 2009,
Abstract: The Myrmecofauna of Santa Catarina State has been studied for more than sixty years; however, studies on urban ant species only began last decade in the state. This study was carried out due to the need of new research in this field for the purpose of elucidating the urban myrmecofauna of Xanxerê, in the west of Santa Catarina. Samples were taken from January to December of 2006, using sardine baits and direct sampling. The sampled urban communities were characterized by high species diversity (Shannon & Wiener – H’) and species richness (Jackknife 1 and Bootstrap) values. These communities yielded a total of 67 ant species, distributed in 21 genera, 13 tribes and six subfamilies: Myrmicinae (33), Formicinae (17), Dolichoderinae (10), Ponerinae (4), Pseudomyrmecinae (2) and Ectatomminae (1). The species diversity was 3.17. The observed ant species richness in houses, commercial establishments and samples showed that the sampling protocol was satisfactory, due to the stability of approximation to the species accumulation curves of estimated species richness. Typical species which are common in areas of stress and also species that cause harm to man were found, as well as habitat specialists and those associated with the vegetation.
