Abstract: Objective: To explore the possible mechanism of Huoxue Qianyang Formula (HXQYF), a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, in reversing the left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) of spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHRs) by analyzing the expressions of mRNAs and proteins of proto-oncogenes c-fos and c-myc in left ventricular muscle. Methods: The experimental study was carried out in SHRs, the sex- and age-matched Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats were served as normal control (n=5, normal saline 10 ml/kg daily). Twenty-five SHRs were randomly divided into five groups: untreated group (n=5, normal saline 10 ml/kg daily), high-dose HXQYF-treated group (n=5, 0.84 g/ml HXQYF, 10 ml/kg daily), medium-dose HXQYF-treated group (n=5, 0.42 g/ml HXQYF, 10 ml/kg daily), low-dose HXQYF-treated group (n=5, 0.21 g/ml HXQYF, 10 ml/kg daily) and cilazapril-treated group (n=5, 1 mg/ml cilazapril, 10 ml/kg daily). The drugs were intragastrically administered once daily for 14 weeks. The expressions of mRNAs and proteins of proto-oncogenes c-fos and c-myc in left ventricular muscle were detected separately by in situ hybridization histochemical method and immunohistochemical method. Results: Compared with the normal control group, the expressions of mRNAs and proteins of proto-oncogenes c-fos and c-myc in left ventricular muscle were significantly increased in untreated group (P<0.01). After treatment, the expressions of c-fos and c-myc mRNAs in left ventricular muscle in HXQYF-treated groups were significantly down-regulated as compared with those of the untreated group (P<0.05). The expressions of c-myc protein were also significantly decreased in high- and medium-dose HXQYF-treated groups as compared with the untreated group (P<0.05), but it had no significant effects in protein expression of c-fos in the three HXQYF-treated groups. Conclusion: HXQYF can inhibit the expression of c-myc in ventricular hypertrophy tissue, which may be the mechanism in treating LVH of hypertention.
“Revising Nabokov Revising”
Marie Bouchet
Transatlantica : Revue d'études Américaines , 2010,
Abstract: Nabokov revised his works as he translated them and, on another plane, canon revisionism has been having its backlash and provoked other refracting waves. The purpose of the conference was to advance Nabokov studies through the discussion of how our view of Nabokov’s standing and his works today should be revised, especially after the publication of The Original of Laura. However the conference was not confined to just this theme, since “revising” is a word rich with implications. To borrow s...
On revising fuzzy belief bases  [PDF]
Richard Booth,Eva Richter
Computer Science , 2012,
Abstract: We look at the problem of revising fuzzy belief bases, i.e., belief base revision in which both formulas in the base as well as revision-input formulas can come attached with varying truth-degrees. Working within a very general framework for fuzzy logic which is able to capture a variety of types of inference under uncertainty, such as truth-functional fuzzy logics and certain types of probabilistic inference, we show how the idea of rational change from 'crisp' base revision, as embodied by the idea of partial meet revision, can be faithfully extended to revising fuzzy belief bases. We present and axiomatise an operation of partial meet fuzzy revision and illustrate how the operation works in several important special instances of the framework.

Abstract: Objective: To study the effect of Qinggan Huoxue Recipe on alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Methods: Effects were observed of Qinggan Huoxue Recipe on the symptoms, physical signs, liver function, blood lipid, markers of liver fibrosis, cytokine and ultrasonogram of ALD patients; the control groups were treated with Xiao Chaihu Decoction or general supportive treatment. Results: The effects of Qinggan Huoxue Recipe were better than that of the other treatments on anorexia, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, ALT, AST and TG; the effects of Qinggan Huoxue Recipe on GGT and VLDL were better than that of the general supportive treatment. Qinggan Huoxue Recipe could decrease the level of cytokines and markers of liver fibrosis, its total effective rate was better than that of Xiao Chaihu Decoction and general supportive treatment. Conclusion: Qinggan Huoxue Recipe could prevent and cure ALD markedly, its mechanism might be: resisting lipid peroxidation, stabilizing the membrane of the hepatocytes, rectifying the disturbance of liver lipid metabolism, adjusting the immune function, anti-fibrosis, and promoting the metabolism of ethanol in the liver.

Abstract: Objective: To study the influence of Jieyu Huoxue Decoction on rehabilitation of patients with depression after cerebral infarction. Methods: Fifty four patients suffered from the depression after acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into three groups: depression control group, fluoxetine treated group and Jieyu Huoxue Decoction treated group. Eighteen patients of cerebral infarction without depression were enrolled in the no depression control group randomly. The Zung self-rating depression scale (SDS), the modified Edinburgh-Scandinavia stroke scale (MESSS) and the activities of daily living (ADL) were evaluated before treatment, 30 and 60 days after treatment. Results: After 30 and 60 days of treatment, SDS evaluation of the Jieyu Huoxue Decoction treated group showed significant difference as compared with the condition before treatment and that of the depression control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01), MESSS evaluation and ADL evaluation also showed significant difference as compared with the condition before treatment and that of the depression control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01); there was no obvious difference between the fluoxetine treated group and the Jieyu Huoxue Decoction treated group, but the Jieyu Huoxue Decoction treated group showed fewer symptoms and less side effect. Conclusion: Jieyu Huoxue Decoction can not only relieve depression after cerebral infarction, but also improve neurological functions.

International Journal of Image, Graphics and Signal Processing , 2011,
Abstract: Microscopic image mosaic stitches several adjacent images into an integrated seamless picture, and is of significant practical value to remote medicine applications, especially in remote diagnosis. However, due to limitation in image acquisition method, a mismatch could occur as a result of variance in adjacent image stitching data and accumulation of errors. The current image stitching method still has room for improvement regarding processing speed and effectiveness, particularly in precision. In this paper, we proposed a new image mosaic revising algorithms based on the relativity of adjacent images and expounding the principal and equations on image mosaic error revising, as well as achieving automatic intelligent calculation with the revised algorithm. Through experiment, inaccurate pathological mosaic images from 20 groups were revised rapidly and accurately with error controlled within one pixel. It was proved that the approach is effective in revising the error matching in microscopic images mosaic. Moreover, it is easy to operate and effective for more accurate image stitching.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effects of Shenmai Huoxue Decoction (SMHXD) on early diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in rats. Methods: The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: normal group, diabetic model group and SMHXD-treated diabetic group. The diabetic rats were induced by streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneally. After the treatment, sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV) of caudal nerve was detected with evoked electromyography, and the activity of aldose reductase (AR) in erythrocytes and the concentration of endothelin (ET) in plasma were measured. Results: It was showed that the SNCV reduced significantly and the activity of AR in erythrocytes and the concentration of ET in plasma were increased significantly in diabetic group as compared with those in the normal group. The SNCV was increased, and the activity of AR in erythrocytes and the concentration of ET in plasma were improved significantly in SMHXD-treated diabetic group after the treatment. Conclusion: The results indicate that SMHXD can alleviate the lesion of DPN in the early stage of diabetic rats.

Physics , 2003, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevE.68.041304
Abstract: We study the dynamics of a pulse in a chain of granules with friction. We present theories for chains of cylindrical granules (Hertz potential with exponent $n=2$) and of granules with other geometries ($n>2$). Our results are supported via numerical simulations for cylindrical and for spherical granules ($n=5/2$).
