In this paper, new evidence is presented concerning the circulation of minerals and metallic objects in the extreme northwest of Argentina during the late pre-Hispanic period. On the basis of this evidence we propose possible sources of the metalliferous minerals used for the manufacture of the metal objects found at the archaeological site of Los Amarillos (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy). Furthermore, we suggest the way in which minerals and metals might have arrived at this settlement.

The building and resignification of space was a conquest strategy of the Inca Empire deployed throughout its territory. This paper aims to examine the problem by considering the archaeological site of La Huerta (quebrada of Humahuaca, Jujuy, Argentina) We seek to understand how imperial power imposed its spatiality on conqueredpopulation, by re-building and re-signifying the socially-built landscape, and how the ideological representation of this spatiality, both produced and reproduced the empire's power relationships of domination. For this purpose, we humanize the landscape by thinking about it with people, analyzing how its inhabitants would have behaved in that tridimensional space, experiencing andperceiveing it.

Abstract: this paper presents results obtained from petrographic analyses from ceramic vessels belonging to the humahuaca valley settlements located in central, eastern and southern portions of the humahuaca gorge. the sample included local ceramic types from humahuaca and humahuaca-inka occupations, and others corresponding to a "chaco tradition" ceramic from el cucho de ocloyas, a small inka fort. the variations detected in ceramic content, as well as morphological and decorative attributes along with architectural and mortuary features are cited as evidence for differentiation between the sociopolitical units within the middle and southern areas (ca. 1,280-1,536 a.d.) in the quebrada de humahuaca. these material differences are associated with group or social identities most likely related to the tilcaras (middle portion) and the tilianes (to the south) political territories. both of these groups were mentioned in ethnohistoric documents sources as descendants from the old humahuaca valley chiefdoms
