Biological Research , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-97602004000200004
Abstract: studies have suggested that wine drinkers are at lower risk of death than beer or spirit drinkers. the aim of this study is to examine whether the risk of becoming a heavy drinker or developing alcoholic cirrhosis differs among individuals who prefer different types of alcoholic beverages. in a longitudinal setting we found that both the risk of becoming a heavy or excessive drinker (above 14 and 21 drinks per week for women and above 21 and 35 drinks per week for men) and the risk of developing alcoholic cirrhosis depended on the individuals preference of wine, beer or spirits. we conclude that moderate wine drinkers appear to be at lower risk of becoming heavy and excessive drinkers and that this may add to the explanation of the reported beverage-specific differences in morbidity and mortality.

What is the power of energy drinks?  [cached]
Nesli Arpac?,Gülgün Ersoy
International Journal of Human Sciences , 2011,
Abstract: Energy drinks are hypertonic and popular drinks since 1990s. Consumption of energy drinks can significantly improve physical and mental performance. Unfortunately, the body of literature is limited and it is not known whether these improvements are due to the caffeine other herbal ingredients, or as a result of the combination of the ingredients found in a beverage. Also, energy drink use in population to compare reported risk taking behaviours and negative health consequances within combined users, and to investigate differences between men and women on reported risk taking behaviours. Resulths indicated that combined users consumed significantly more alcohol than people used alcohol only. Also, indicated that men took significantly more risks than women drinking alcohol only and combining. Literature knowledge of affects and ingredients of energy drinks and report cases take place in this article.
Animal Spirits in America, April 2009  [PDF]
Elliott Middleton
Physics , 2009,
Abstract: Adaptation level and animal spirits (Middleton 1996) presented a psychophysical theory of confidence levels based on the oldest and probably most widely observed law in psychology, the sensitivity to adaptation level. For Americans, whose attachments to employment and livelihood are often tenuous in a country without a European-style social safety net, it is the sensitivity to the unemployment rate that drives confidence levels. In Animal spirits and recession forecasting (Middleton 2001; see also Ball 2001), the adaptation level theoretic metric of animal spirits, A, was combined with the slope of the U.S. Treasury yield curve in a logistic recession forecasting model that has correctly predicted every turning point in the economy since then. The model currently forecasts increasing confidence and an end to the recession in mid-2009. The question, given the severity of the current slump globally, is whether this forecast is plausible in the face of possibly very large increases in macroeconomic volatility.
Determination of Sugars in Sports Drinks
Itsusei Fujita,Toshiaki Tobino
Journal of Food Technology , 2013, DOI: 10.3923/jftech.2011.139.140
Abstract: Mono and disaccharides are routinely quantified with a differential refractometer. However, the researchers developed a simpler analytical method involving pre-derivatization and high-performance liquid chromatography to achieve a high recovery rate. The purpose of the study is to understand the amount of sugar in sports drinks in order to determine how large doses lead to tooth decay. To dose so the researchers quantified sugars in sports drinks.
MONITORING INTRABDOMINAL PRESSURE, Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed…  [PDF]
Ioana Grigora?
Jurnalul de Chirurgie , 2009,
Abstract: Systematic interest in intraabdominal pressure began about two decades ago. Since than, the amount of scientific data regarding this problem have been risen exponentially. This happened due to several reasons: description of pathophysiological pathways which link intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome refinement of measurement techniques, emergence of national, international and worldwide scientific organizations dedicated to IAH and the dramatic increase in body of published papers dealing with this topic. The critical mass of this accumulation was reached and the explosive dissemination of data bursted...In conclusion, measurement of IAP is an old tool. What is new is the recognition of its importance for guiding therapy and for patient outcome. As in case of sepsis, recognition of IAH / ACS should initiate an algorithm-based approach. Something old, something new, something borrowed…

Lucr?ri ?tiin?ifice : Management Agricol , 2009,
Abstract: Soft drinks market has seen major development in recent years, especially after 1990 when the market broke of numerous companies producing soft drinks. The geographical territory in which the products are marketed includes mostly all areas of the country, but most sales are made on the urban, rural market being a rather small. Soft drinks market adjusts to new demands of consumers and consumer trends. Regarding consumption of soft drinks per capita, carbonate drinks hold first place with 49.6 l notcarbonate register a consumption of 11.6 l, according to estimates made by research and URBB Carlsrom and Beverage.
Energy- Drinks: Composition and Health Benefits
I Yunusa, IM Ahmad
Bayero Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences , 2011,
Abstract: In recent years, there has been an increase in the consumption of energy drinks, containing besides calories, other ingredients suspected to boost mental, emotional and physical alertness of the consumers. Such drinks are widely consumed by young people for a variety of reasons. However, from a public health point of view, little seems to be understood of the health benefits and other implications of these drinks by their consumers. Therefore, the understanding that energy drinks have stimulating properties that can boost heart beat rate and blood pressure, dehydrate the body, aggravate the effects of other stimulants, and prevent sleep may help as a decision making tools for the consumers of such products. This review examines some of the important active ingredients of energy drinks, their origins, sources, benefits and side effects. It is concluded that energy drinks, despite the variations in brand name contain bio-active ingredients; therefore further research is needed on their potential hazards.
MICROBIAL DIVERSITY IN SOFT DRINKS
A. Shiva Shanker,Ashwitha Kodaparthi,Pavan Kumar Pindi
Journal of Pharmaceutical and Scientific Innovation , 2012,
Abstract: A total of 4 carbonated soft drink (CSD) samples, from various locations in nine places of India were examined to determine their biological quality. Most samples were not in compliance with microbiological standards set by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO). The prevailing bacterial isolates were Gluconobacter sp., Lactobacillus sp., and Leuconostoc sp. The prevailing fungal isolates were Penicillium expansum and the next isolate was Penicillium roqueforti. Many microorganisms are found in soft drinks as environmental or raw materials contaminants, but relatively can grow within the acidic and low oxygen environment. It is crucial for soft drink manufacturers to inspect raw materials before they are mixed with other ingredients. Concern with consumer health, safety and the environment will continue to have a positive impact on trend in the soft drink industry.
Impact on the spirits of humanism brought by the contemporary development of science education in China  [cached]
X.W. ZHANG
Asia-Pacific Forum on Science Learning and Teaching , 2003,
Abstract: The topic of the science education, the spirits of science, humanism education and the spirits of humanism has been discussed hotly by the academe. In the realities, there have been many buskins in the educational field because of the domination of science education and the loss of spirits of humanism, which are effecting profoundly the practice of education. By the comments and discussion to some cases from the amalgamation and conformity of the science education and spirits of humanism, the paper will give to people some apocalypses about how to work in the educational practice.
