Participatory development of a middleware for AAL solutions: requirements and approach – the case of SOPRANO
Balfanz, Dirk,Klein, Michael,Schmidt, Andreas,Santi, Marco
GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie , 2008,
Abstract: This paper describes the main features of a middleware for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) applications, exemplified along the SOPRANO research project. The contribution outlines main requirements towards the technical system and the elicitation methodology. The presented middleware allows for personalisation and flexible, extendible configuration of AAL solutions with low effort. Concerning the technical concept, the design approach as well as components, qualities and functionality of the AAL platform are depicted. Furthermore the methodology of requirements elicitation is discussed. It is explained how SOPRANO met the problem to elicit socio-technical system requirements in a user-centred manner, although the addressed target group is not expected to be able to express precise guidelines. SOPRANO ( Service oriented programmable smart environments for older Europeans“, http://www.soprano-ip.org/) is a research project funded by the European Commission, which aims at the provision of a technical (AAL) infrastructure to help elderly people to keep their independence and to stay in their familiar environment as long as possible. SOPRANO focuses on in-house support and emphasises well-being. It is a main goal to secure situation-aware assistance and help not only in case of emergencies but particularly as well in activities of daily living.

The impact of pietism and Frederic the Great on German 18th century enlightenment  [PDF]
Molnar Aleksandar
Sociologija , 2011, DOI: 10.2298/soc1104475m
Abstract: In the article the author is dealing with two issues he perceives as main specific features of the German 18th century Enlightenment: the impact of pietism and the role of Prussian king Frederic the Great. On the one hand, as a very influential intellectual power in Germany, especially in Prussia, pietism was reluctant to let freedom of consciousness go too far. Instead, it tried to come to terms with the Enlightenment movement and save what was believed to be the original “core” of Christianity. On the other hand, Frederic played a crucial role in the development of German Enlightenment as a free-thinker, as well as an enlightened despot, who encouraged his subjects to think freely in religious matters, but never contemplated the possibility to help them overcome their political immaturity. Instead, he preferred order and discipline in persuading his “people” to accept state machinery which should be served quietly and obediently. The long-term consequences of such development were the rise of nationalism and the theory of the reason of state.

Abstract: After the discovery of two different phonic types within the common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus), mtDNA analysis confirmed the existence of two separate species named as common pipistrelle (P. pipistrellus) and soprano pipistrelle (P. pygmaeus). The discrimination of these two cryptic species using external characters and measures has proved to be somewhat problematic. We examined two colonies of soprano pipistrelle from Donji Miholjac, Croatia. As a result, only two characters proved to be of help for field identification: wing venation (89% of cases) and penis morphology and colour for males. The difference in length between the 2nd and 3rd phalanxes of the 3rd finger should be discarded as diagnostic trait between P. pipistrellus and P. pygmaeus in Croatia.

The present study seeks to establish the divergences produced in the reception of the script Viaje a la luna (1929) from Federico García Lorca and the cinematographic adaptation carried out by Frederic Amat (1998). Both stories-written and cinematographical-present dissimilarities in their actualization due to the difference between reader and observer. The displacements between both productions will be revised from the essential concepts of Wiser’s theory of the reading and R.Barthes’s structural sequences.
