Abstract: O presente trabalho apresenta o mapeamento e a quantifica o do uso eocupa o da terra da Unidade de Gerenciamento de Recursos Hídricos UGRHI da Mantiqueira, resultado da interpreta o de ortofotos digitais (ano 2003) estruturadas em ambiente de Sistema de Informa es Geográficas SIG. Dentre os resultados, pode-se destacar que nos municípios de Campos do Jord o, S o Bento do Sapucaí e Santo Ant nio do Pinhal, quanto ao e ocupa o da terra predominam as categorias de vegeta o secundária, em diferentes estágios: avan ado 5.875,9 ha (8,70%); médio 25.387,7 ha (37,58%) e inicial 1.164,9 ha (1,72%), sendo que as maiores concentra es de vegeta o secundária, em seus diferentes estágios de desenvolvimento, se localizam no município de Campos do Jord o.This paper concerns about the mapping and quantification of land use and occupation of the Mantiqueira’s water resource management unity, as a result of theinterpretation of digital orthophotos (year 2003), which are structured in Campos do Jord o, S o Bento do Sapucaí and Santo Ant nio do Pinhal, by means of land use and occupation, the secondary vegetation categories prevail in different levels: advanced 5,875.9 ha (8.70%); intermediate 25,387.7 ha (37.58%) and initial 1.164,9 ha (1.72%), considering that the greatest concentration of secondary vegetation in different levels of development are situated in Campos do Jord o.

Abstract:
In order to obtain series of occupied population of Baja California and to assess the impacts of the national migration in the occupation levels those corresponding to five municipalities were estimated by using weights of the occupied population against the total taking as reference the report of employed population ENOE/INEGI for Baja California and Tijuana in the 2005-2015 period. The results indicate a common behavior of the occupation in the metropolitan zone Tijuana-Tecate-Playas de Rosarito, while Mexicali and Ensenada show a differentiated behavior. Also, the changes in the economically active population, the occupied population in the regions of the country as well their impact in the occupation level in the State and each one of their municipalities are analyzed, in a scene where increases in the unemployment rate are imported from other States ejectors of labor force.

Abstract: A influência do desmatamento da Mata Atlantica sobre o microclima da Serra da Mantiqueira ainda n o é totalmente compreendida. Para conhecer as consequências do desmatamento sobre o clima serrano é necessário realizar estudos sobre o balan o de radia o na superfície. A falta de dados possibilita conjugar imagens de satélite com dados meteorológicos em um Sistema de Informa o Geográfica na determina o do balan o de radia o. O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o modelo MTCLIM em dias de céu claro ou nublado para simular o balan o de radia o na Serra da Mantiqueira, divisa entre os estados de S o Paulo, Minas Gerais e Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Imagens diárias, semanais e dezesseis dias do sensor MODIS disponíveis em 2003 foram utilizadas em rotinas específicas do MTCLIM. Alvos específicos foram selecionados para avaliar o comportamento do balan o de radia o. Observou-se que o balan o de radia o acompanhou a topografia local e é influenciado pelo tipo de uso da terra. Conclui-se que a temperatura da superfície contribui para aumentar a temperatura do ar implicando em diminui o do balan o de radia o sobre pastagem. O modelo MTCLIM demonstrou boa correla o para a temperatura do ar (R2 = 0,82) e para a radia o solar global (R2 = 0,71). The influence of deforestation of the Atlantic Forest on the microclimate of the mountain Mantiqueira is not yet fully understood. To understand the consequences of deforestation on the highland climate research is needed about the surface radiation balance. The lack of data allows combining satellite images with meteorological data in a Geographic Information System in determining the radiation balance. The study aimed to evaluate the MTCLIM model in cloudless days or cloudy sky and simulate the radiation balance in the Mantiqueira mountain, between S o Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Daily images, weekly and sixteen days MODIS available in 2003 were used in specific routines from MTCLIM. Specific targets were selected to evaluate the behavior of the radiation balance. It was observed that the radiation balance followed the local topography and is influenced by the type of land use. It follows that the surface temperature contributes to elevate the air temperature, resulting in lesser radiation balance on pasture. The MTCLIM model showed good correlation for air temperature (R2 = 0.82) and solar radiation (R2 = 0.71).

Abstract: the hinterlands of mantiqueira were considered by portuguese crown as a forbidden area to settlement and economical exploration. however, along the xviii century, that area was occupied randomly and without consent of the law. discuss such occupation of the hinterlands as something fluid and in constant alteration is our main concern in this article. it will be analyzed the ways by which the individuals overcame the prohibitions of usufruct of those lands, and in particular the activities of josé aires gomes. lastly, it will be discussed the notes written by the governor rodrigo josé de meneses concerning to his trip to that region in order to normalize the land occupation in mantiqueira.

Abstract: salicina lindl) is a fruit species commercially cultivated in regions of mild and severe winters, and cultivar selection is mainly based on climate adaptation. the objective of this study was to select superior genetic materials, adapted to edafoclimatic conditions to the south region of minas gerais state, in the highlands of serra da mantiqueira. the evaluations were carried out with the plum cultivars 'pretinha', 'irati', 'gema de ouro', 'reubennel', 'roxa de delfim moreira', 'gulfblaze', 'frontier', 'santa rosa', and nine selections (selection i, selection ii, selection iii, selection iv, selection v, selection vi, selection vii, selection viii and selection ix), grafted onto the rootstock 'okinawa'. the experiment was arranged in arandomized block design, with eigth cultivars and nine selections, with four repetitions. plant vegetative development of eighteen, and twenty-four month old plum trees was evaluated during the crop cycle 2007/2008, besides phenological data on sprouting, blooming, fruiting and harvest. the results showed that the selections iii and ix were earlier; selections vii, viii, 'gema de ouro' and 'reubennel' were mid-season; and 'irati' and 'gulfblaze' were late. cultivars irati, gema de ouro and reubennel showed better adaptation to soil and climatic conditions to the region of the highlands of the mantiqueira mountain range in minas gerais.
First assessment of the avifauna of Araucaria forests and other habitats from extreme southern Minas Gerais, Serra da Mantiqueira, Brazil, with notes on biogeography and conservation

Abstract: the avifauna of the araucaria forests in the higher reaches of the serra da mantiqueira massif is little known and poorly documented. this region is recognized as an important area of differentiation of birds in southeastern brazil. here, we present the first ornithological survey of the araucaria forests and associated habitats in the mountains of extreme southern minas gerais state, near the southern tip of the serra da mantiqueira. the study area comprises the serra do juncal region and several adjacent sites, located in the municipalities of gon?alves and camanducaia. we recorded 206 bird species, of which 57 (27.7%) are endemic to the atlantic forest. several records represent the first specimens for minas gerais, in the hinterlands of serra da mantiqueira, proving that many atlantic species also occur in the intern most slope of this mountain range. examples are: dysithamnus xanthopterus, chamaeza ruficauda, leptasthenura setaria, heliobletus contaminatus, hemitriccus obsoletus, phylloscartes difficilis, piprites pileata, poospiza thoracica, and cacicus chrysopterus. the region is also a previously unknown area of sympatry of other closely related species: scytalopus notorius and s. speluncae, lepidocolaptes squamatus and l. falcinellus, and basileuterus culicivorus and b. hypoleucus. both species of lepidocolaptes and basileuterus hybridize in the region. we also comment on the avifauna conservation, which have been threatened by eco-tourism, building of new styles of houses, domestic animals, forest fragmentation, and plantations.

Abstract: espinha?o and mantiqueira are two mountain ranges of great importance in brazil. in the uppermost parts of these areas, unique ecosystems occur, generally associated with rock outcrops, they are collectively called high altitude rocky complexes. these environments show distinct soil and biota characteristics in relation to the surrounding biome. the soils are generally shallow, coarse textured, with high al3+ and varying amounts of organic matter. entisols, inceptsols and histosols are dominant, directly associated with the rock outcrops, and forming a complex mosaic of soils. some of these soils are endemic, based on peculiar conditions of parent materials, topography and vegetation, and this pedodiversity is important for detecting unique and endangered soils. in these soils, organic matter is highly humified, with a great amount of soluble forms and conspicuous presence of charcoal. spodic horizons and dark water rivers are typically associated with quartzite and quartzite outcrops, formed by illuviation of organic compounds, being less common in granitic rocks. the very low nutrient content of these soils and other environmental limitations required the development of specific physiological and morphological plant adaptations. most high altitude environments are unstable under current climatic conditions, and anthropic interventions may be accelerating this process. detailed soil surveys are necessary for a better understanding of the role of these soils in ecological processes and for the development of adequate conservation policies.

Abstract: We propose nonparametric estimators of the occupation measure and the occupation density of the diffusion coefficient (stochastic volatility) of a discretely observed It\^{o} semimartingale on a fixed interval when the mesh of the observation grid shrinks to zero asymptotically. In a first step we estimate the volatility locally over blocks of shrinking length, and then in a second step we use these estimates to construct a sample analogue of the volatility occupation time and a kernel-based estimator of its density. We prove the consistency of our estimators and further derive bounds for their rates of convergence. We use these results to estimate nonparametrically the quantiles associated with the volatility occupation measure.
Cladocera Chydoridae of high altitude water bodies (Serra da Mantiqueira), in Brazil

Abstract: the diversity of species of cladocera, chydoridae in the water bodies belonging to the water management unity of serra da mantiqueira, was studied inside the biota/fapesp program. a total of 21 water bodies were analyzed and the sampling was carried out between 9th and 11th september, 1999. horizontal and vertical net hauls were taken at littoral and limnetic region in each lake. most water bodies in serra da mantiqueira unity are small, shallow, and densely colonized by macrophytes. most species of cladocera found belong to the chydoridae family, being typical inhabitants of the littoral zone, living associated with macrophytes. a total of 12 species were found, 9 of the subfamily aloninae and 3 chydorinae. in more than half of the water bodies the relative abundance of chydorids reached 100%, and they were dominant in most of the others, with few exceptions. alona rustica was the most frequent species, occurring in 62% of the water bodies. the results evidenced the importance of the littoral zone as propitious habitats for the species of chydoridae and contributing significantly to the diversity of cladocera as a whole.
