Abstract: The book is a positive image of how cities can contribute not only to a better economic and social future but also a profoundly better ecological future. "Cities as Sustainable Ecosystems" shows how cities can begin to reintegrate into their bioregional environment and planned taking into account nature's organizing principles. Therefore, professor Peter Newman and Isabella Jennings reassess urban design by exploring flows of energy, materials, and information, along with the interactions between human and non-human parts of the system. "Cities as Sustainable Ecosystems" describes aspects of urban ecosystems, being a powerful model for urban redevelopment.

Abstract: Based on a geometrical property which holds both for the Kerr metric and for the Wahlquist metric we argue that the Kerr metric is a vacuum subcase of the Wahlquist perfect-fluid solution. The Kerr-Newman metric is a physically preferred charged generalization of the Kerr metric. We discuss which geometric property makes this metric so special and claim that a charged generalization of the Wahlquist metric satisfying a similar property should exist. This is the Wahlquist-Newman metric, which we present explicitly in this paper. This family of metrics has eight essential parameters and contains the Kerr-Newman-de Sitter and the Wahlquist metrics, as well as the whole Pleba\'nski limit of the rotating C-metric, as particular cases. We describe the basic geometric properties of the Wahlquist-Newman metric, including the electromagnetic field and its sources, the static limit of the family and the extension of the spacetime across the horizon.

Abstract: We consider a random field, defined on an integer-valued d-dimensional lattice, with covariance function satisfying a condition more general than summability. Such condition appeared in the well-known Newman's conjecture concerning the central limit theorem (CLT) for stationary associated random fields. As was demonstrated by Herrndorf and Shashkin, the conjecture fails already for d=1. In the present paper, we show the validity of modified conjecture leaving intact the mentioned condition on covariance function. Thus we establish, for any positive integer d, a criterion of the CLT validity for the wider class of positively associated stationary fields. The uniform integrability for the squares of normalized partial sums, taken over growing parallelepipeds or cubes, plays the key role in deriving their asymptotic normality. So our result extends the Lewis theorem proved for sequences of random variables. A representation of variances of partial sums of a field using the slowly varying functions in several arguments is employed in essential way.

Abstract: The energy distribution in the Kerr-Newman space-time is computed using the M{\o}ller energy-momentum complex. This agrees with the Komar mass for this space-time obtained by Cohen and de Felice. These results support the Cooperstock hypothesis.

Abstract: Source-free equations of nonlinear electrodynamics minimally coupled to gravity (NED-GR) admit regular axially symmetric asymptotically Kerr-Newman solutions, which describe electrically charged rotating black holes and spinning solitons. Asymptotic analysis of solutions shows the existence of de Sitter vacuum interior which has the properties of a perfect conductor and an ideal diamagnetic. The Kerr ring singularity (a naked singularity in the case without horizons) is replaced with a superconducting current, which serves as a nondissipative source of the Kerr-Newman fields and can be responsible for an unlimited life time of a spinning object.
