Abstract: The purpose of this study is to develop the speaking anxiety scale that measures teacher candidates’ speaking anxiety. The sample of study is 338 teacher candidates who study in the social and natural sciences. The data of study were collected with speaking anxiety scale consisting of 35 items after a comprehensive literature review. It was made validity and reliability studies on the collected data and it was reached the last form of speaking anxiety scale consisting of 20 items. According to the analysis of data obtained from study, it was understood the scale developed is applicable. Abstract: Speaking skill should be given special importance within the four language skills as it is an important aspect of communication. Therefore, the English education given should be in favor of developing the students’ speaking skills, considering all of the process; including the materials used as well as the classroom context. Moreover, the evaluation aspect of speaking skill is another important point to consider. European Language Portfolio is a document which puts the standards for this aspect of education and files individual information in terms of their language experience and knowledge. Moreover, it uses the Common European Framework as a criterion for the language competence. The aim of this study is to determine views of students, who enrolled at English preparatory class at the School of Foreign Languages in nonü University, towards their English speaking skill competency. The study was conducted on 150 preparatory school students. Data were collected through a questionnaire prepared considering the Common European Framework. Independent samples t-test and one way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. As a result, it was determined that students’ views towards their English speaking skill did not differ in terms of gender and the high school type variables. Students’ views on their speaking skills differed significantly in terms of taking English as compulsory or willingly. Abstract: Poetry, with its production and perception, is one of the cognitive activities of human mind. Comprehending poetry as a cognitive activity, naturally, involves some cognitive processes that are related to human cognition. Recent scientific exploration resulted in the emergence of new disciplines in which cognitive and human sciences merge together. Cognitive linguistics, one of the newly emerged disciplines, investigates the cognitive processes in literary texts, an area where language has a specific purpose. Recent cognitive linguistic research shows that metaphor, a very common poetic device, is not only a figure of speech but also a process in which cognitive elements are involved. In this article, I examine Attila lhan’s well-known poem Sisler Bulvar from a cognitive-linguistic perspective. iir hem üretim hem de al mlama süreci bak m ndan insan zihninin estetik ve bili sel etkinliklerinden biridir. Abstract: This study includes analyses regarding the level of effectiveness of acquisitions structured in the area of learning grammar on developing reading skills in primary school Turkish Language (6th, 7th, and 8th grades) Curriculum of the year of 2006. In the behavioral system applied before 2005, a perception which is based on teaching rules and irrelevant to reading, writing, speaking and listening-learning areas were dominant in grammar teaching. Together with the constructivist system started to be applied in teaching mother language by 2005, grammar teaching was began to be approached through cyclical perception. According to cyclical approached adopted in grammar teaching, the rules of the language to be taught should be dealt with cyclical approach converging with reading, writing, speaking and listening studies, which are accepted as the basic language skills. To that end, the interaction points of the acquisitions in the area of grammar learning with the acquisitions in other learning areas should be determined, which is thought to be a guide for Turkish Language teachers in acquiring a cyclical perception. Literature survey method was used in the study. The 9 acquisition in the area of learning through reading in Turkish Language curriculum of 2006 can directly be supported by grammar teaching. The 37 acquisition in grammar learning area support those 9 acquisitions in the area of learning through reading. With regards to their effectiveness in the area of learning through reading, the acquisitions about the semantic of words and sentences in grammar learning area become prominent.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the validity and reliability of NNAQ developed byHeckert et al., (2000) on a group consisting universty students. The items of the scale have beenrelated with psychological needs(achievement, affiliation, utonomy, and dominance). The studygroup of the research consists of students in the Faculty of Education at Sel uk University. Inorder to examine the structure validity and factor structures of NNAQ, confirmatory factoranalysis have been carried out. For the validity of the scale, Cronbach’s Coefficient Alpha hasbeen used. For the criterion related validity of the scale, correlations have been used. The internalreliability score of the scale has been found 0,80. For the criterion related validity of the form ofPersonal Preference Survey has been used. In line with the findings obtained it can be assumedthat the scale has language equivalence, validity and reliability.

Abstract: The environment plays a vital role in human life. All human beings would like to live in aclean environment. However, they are also the ones who pollute it most.In recent years, environmental pollution has significantly increased. Environmental pollutiondefined as the deterioration and alteration of the natural texture of the environment, negativelyimpacts on all living and non-living organisms and would presumably lead to very badconsequences if the necessary precautions are not taken.In fact, polluting the environment means exterminating human existence. Polluted andunhealthy environment is harmful to all human beings. Thus, there is an urgent need to developpeople’s environmental awareness.Environmental awareness is a universal and social value which should be developed from thevery beginning of childhood. A child with environmental awareness would be knowledgeableabout the environment and would display consistent and sensitive behaviours in keeping theenvironment clean. Aytül Akal’s fivebook tale series could then be recommended in order to helpchildren develop environmental awareness.Akal’s tales, written in comply with the principles“child reality” and “child-centredness”, appear to be significant in the sense that they helpchildren develop environmental awareness.

Abstract: There has been an influx of loan words into Turkish from Western European languages, especially from English for almost two centuries. Great increase in the number of loan words brings up worries about gradual change of phonological features and rules dominating the language. In this paper we consider how native speakers approach the loan words being used in Turkish and whether degrees of “acceptance” of and “alienation” from loan words show certain tendencies or not and finally what relationships there are between these tendencies and native speaker characteristics such as gender, job and educational level.It is normally expected that native speaker intuition for loan words may vary according to their personal characteristics. By analyzing the tendencies of native speakers in perceiving loan words and by finding out the relationship between tendencies and characteristics we may come up with suggestions about attitudes to be assumed and measures to be taken against the use of loan words in Turkish.
