Algorithmic Solutions to Some Transportation Optimization Problems with Applications in the Metallurgical Industry  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper we address several constrained transportation optimization problems (e.g. vehicle routing, shortest Hamiltonian path), for which we present novel algorithmic solutions and extensions, considering several optimization objectives, like minimizing costs and resource usage. All the considered problems are motivated by practical situations arising, for instance, in the mining and metallurgical industry or in data communication. We restrict our attention to transportation networks with path, tree or geometric structures, for which the developed polynomial-time algorithms are optimal or nearly optimal.

Abstract: Features, common for objects with the stochastic manner of operation, are described in the paper. The results are illustrated in order to give an example of objects of the considered class – a ball mill with dry cement grinding. The known approaches to the stochastic processes control are overviewed, and their advantages and deficiencies are mentioned. The modification of linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) theory results is offered to be applied in the control loop. The modification is taking into account physical requirements to the calcu-lation values of control actions by means of the application of limits to the range of their possible values. The Kalman filter modification is offered to be applied in the filter loop. It is based on the bias between the object output and the target values. The estimation technique of the proposed sub-optimal algorithms effi-ciency is developed. All the results, received during the research, are shown. The results prove the assumption about the efficiency of the offered variant of the algorithmic support.

The paper is focused on available server management in Internet connected network environments. The local backup servers are hooked up by LAN and replace broken main server immediately and several different types of backup servers are also considered. The remote backup servers are hooked up by VPN (Virtual Private Network) with high-speed optical network. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a way to use a public network infrastructure and hooks up long-distance servers within a single network infrastructure. The remote backup servers also replace broken main severs immediately under the different conditions with local backups. When the system performs a mandatory routine maintenance of main and local backup servers, auxiliary servers from other location are being used for backups during idle periods. Analytically tractable results are obtained by using several mathematical techniques and the results are demonstrated in the framework of optimized networked server allocation problems. The operational workflow give the guidelines for the actual implementations.

Abstract: The selection of an optimal transportation mode is one of the most important factors in supply chain and logistic planning. Furthermore, the selection transportation mode is a complex, multi-criteria decision problem. The decision makers have to face and take attention with a lot of criteria; such as cost, quality, delivery time, safety, accessibility and etc while choosing the best mode. Under these criteria, there must be a selection between motorway, seaway, airway, pipeline, railway and also intermodal modes. Selection the transportation mode is very promising issue because it affects about 60-65 % of total logistic cake. There are some techniques which can be heuristics and logical approaches are used to reach the best option. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) which is one of the mathematical methods can be very useful in involving several decision makers with different conflicting objectives to arrive at a consensus decision. In this paper, the selection of an optimal transportation mode using an AHP-based model was evaluated for logistic activities. To solve this transportation mode selection problem, we developed a decision support system based AHP. By using the developed decision support system, the best transportation modes is determined and discussed.

Abstract: In programmers point of view, Datatypes in programming language level have a simple description but inside hardware, huge machine codes are responsible to describe type features. Datatype architecture design is a novel approach to match programming features along with hardware design. In this paper a novel Data type-Based Code Reducer (TYPELINE) architecture is proposed and implemented according to significant data types (SDT) of programming languages. TYPELINE uses TEUs for processing various SDT operations. This architecture design leads to reducing the number of machine codes, and increases execution speed, and also improves some parallelism level. This is because this architecture supports some operation for the execution of Abstract Data Types in parallel. Also it ensures to maintain data type features and entire application level specifications using the proposed type conversion unit. This framework includes compiler level identifying execution modes and memory management unit for decreasing object read/write in heap memory by ISA support. This energy-efficient architecture is completely compatible with object oriented programming languages and in combination mode it can process complex C++ data structures with respect to parallel TYPELINE architecture support.

Abstract: Software architecture is receiving increasingly attention as a critical design level for software systems. As software architecture design resources (in the form of architectural descriptions) are going to be accumulated, the development of techniques and tools to support architectural understanding, testing, reengineering, maintaining, and reusing will become an important issue. In this paper we introduce a new dependence analysis technique, named architectural dependence analysis to support software architecture development. In contrast to traditional dependence analysis, architectural dependence analysis is designed to operate on an architectural description of a software system, rather than the source code of a conventional program. Architectural dependence analysis provides knowledge of dependences for the high-level architecture of a software system, rather than the low-level implementation details of a conventional program.
